I'm currently reading Skipp & Spector's Book of the Dead II: Still Dead, an anthology of zombies stories that was published in 1992 during the peak of the splatterpunk movement. Next will be the first Book of the Dead, which they had published in 1989. I used to have copies of both of these, but I loaned them out somewhere around 95-96 and never saw them again. Seeing as to how these were some of the best zombie stories I ever read and the books have been out of print for years, I decided it'd be worthwhile to track down used copies on Amazon. Highly recommended to all zombie fans.

hmm. is it like the book of all flesh?

Good question. I never read that one. Both of the books I mentioned are really good, though. Kathe Koja, Elizabeth Massie, Ramsey Campbell and Stephen King are just a few of the authors you'll find in them. Each book has about 20 stories from different authors, with the stories averaging about 10-15 pages each. Really good stuff. It's a hell of a lot better than most of the tripe that passes for horror fiction now.

Oh, yeah... The introduction in book 1 was written by GAR, and the intro in book 2 was written by Savini.

I suggest NO ONE watch that movie. The entire plot seems diffrent at times. In the book, (500 pg+) there is no real Human slavery. Man is near extinct. The protagonist is much more a specimen of Human body and mind and the strugle of Man vs alien is more profound and meaningful. Great book!

Well they essentially held the North down, made political allies of the British (who still had Canada), Russia, and France, isolating the North...until the WWI timeframe when the North pumped up their Army and made new allies in the form of the Germans, the Quebecis (who were itching to break away from Britain) and the Ottomans, who also came out ahead in this alternative history. General Custer did not die at Little Bighorn and he was responsible for the North's heavy investment in 'Barrels', great armored, lumbering machines, but hey, they were the new cavalry and he loved them. The North did not win WWI with that alone though. There is a lot of political stuff going on as well, Republicans are out (After all Lincoln LOST the war), Socialist rose in their place.

The books follow a series of characters and each progresses the tale a bit further, a few of them run into each other, most do not.

Almost done with Roses Of Blood On Barbwire Vines by D.L. Snell. This one would make a good movie.

Glad you're enjoying the book, Dent! I'd love to hear what you think when you finish.

I'm currently reading MIDNIGHT TOUR, the third book in Richard Laymon's Beast House series. THE CELLAR, the first book in the series, I liked the best. A few months later I read the second novel, THE BEAST HOUSE, which was also pretty good, although slower paced. I like how it builds on the history of the house and the origins of the beast.

After I finished that one, I went directly to MIDNIGHT TOUR, which was kind of a mistake. The first quarter or so of each book repeats the Beast House tour, only from the perspectives of different characters. Some new information is added here or there, but it's mostly the same thing. I didn't mind it so much in THE BEAST HOUSE--it had been a while since I'd read THE CELLAR so the refresher course was in order--but it gets kind of repetitive in MIDNIGHT TOUR because I read it so soon after the second book. MIDNIGHT is a thick one, though, so I suspect it will build into something gruesome and memorable.

I'm reading Daniel Keye's 'Flowers for Algernon'. So far I'm halfway through it, and it's a damn good story! I'll be sure to see the movie "Charly" if I can find it.

I read the first two in less than two weeks and I'm full steam ahead on reading all seven of the Dark Tower novels in the next few months. Wish me luck and hope with me that I continue to have very little to do while at work.
