I am JUST starting this game now...anyone else feel like it's a more 'uppity' Resident Evil? It's fun so far....
Are you playing the first Devil May Cry? If so it started out life as a Resident Evil game, but the developers decided to scrap that idea and make the game you are now playing.
I thought it was good fun, you can't beat the old twin hand cannons!
I've yet to play parts 2 and 3 though.

Yeah I'm playing Part 1...I'm always so behind the times with video games. It feels like a Resident Evil game...

I played the first one, it was good, but a little too linear. The introduction of "devil power" and Dante's use of the twin handguns were a nice touch I thought, plus the marionettes made a nice change from zombies :)

I own all three. My advice: skip the second one and get the third. DMC 2 is uber easy, lacks any real story to speak of, and it also introduces Lucia, who gets a second disc to herself, kinda stealing some of the game from Dante. If you feel you need to own the complete series, though (which I recommend you do eventually, at least), pick it up after buying DMC 3.
DMC 3 is the polar opposite of DMC 2: hard as hell (seriously, you could fight your way through demonic forces for real and it'd have to be easier than this), its story focuses on Dante's beginnings (yes, it is a prequel), and there is another chick in this one, but she doesn't really get in the way that much because you don't play her.
I haven't even passed the third one yet, though, thanks to one of the many boss fights in the game ^^; But I swear to Lucifer, that I will defeat that annoyingly difficult, blue, naked vampire lady!

There's a blue, naked vampire-lady? Well, that's me sold on it.. :)
I actually liked 2 as well as the first one. It was a very different game - more shoot-em up than survival horror, but still held my attention. It was very easy, though.
Didn't know it started life as a resi game, Pain... Very interesting.

I like the way you think Spiral!
Read this article from the second section. It was gonna be Resi 4!!!

Didn't feel like Resident Evil at all. Devil May Cry (original) was already hard a freakin' hell. I beat it once and I won't touch it again, I know I won't because I don't want to get pissed. My first time I must have died 50 million times on that damn spider but after defeating him I was like "eat me you eight-legged piece of sh**!" but then that huge-ass griffon was equally tough even with all of Dante's powers.
Sure Devil May Cry 2 is easy but I liked that change and the game was alright. I did think the mutant helicopter was a sort of tough but anyway I kind of liked not having to pull my hair out with that one. So, I'm actually kind of leary about picking up Devil May Cry 3 because all reviewers say they love the game but the over the top difficulty can get ridiculous and I'm just not in the mood for that right now.

my freinds in love with the series, and im not really into it. i borrowed the first one from him but gave it back without finishing it, just too much of the same action that wasnt that great to me.. but the double handguns was pretty sweet.

Oh, come on, the first one wasn't that hard. Just right for me. And DMC3 is somewhat. . .well. . .impossible, but it's still fun to play. I usually have to take week-long breaks, though, or else my head will explode.

I loooove part 1...I didnt think it was too hard though...unless you played on "dante must die" mode. now that was frikin impossible! I loved the feel the game had, the eerie castle the great weapons...the story, the music...I loved it all! wasnt that much a fan of the second one though. actually it kinda blew :puke: . I haven't played part three because i've seen my cousin playing it and have seen how frustrated he gets....I dont wanna start throwin controllers across the room just yet...i'll give it a go eventually.

I just picked up DMC3 today second-hand, so if you hear a scream and a few bangs it's just me beating the TV to death with the controller... :)

The music is great, the gameplay mechanics are it's best feature, and the difficulty is a good mix of easy and difficult. This has to be one of my favorite games of all time. And 3 is insane, but you can replay old levels and upgrade your skills before moving on. The only thing I hated was not being able to change what kind of style you're using on the fly. Since the sword techniques were so important, you just had to use that the entire game.
But like I said about the best feature is mechanics. This is one of those few games where it comes down to how good are you with the controller, cause the game offers insane control over Dante. Not like how some games are button mashers or the controls are too buggy or laggy to be efficient, this one all comes down to you the player. If you need to understand what I mean, play Ninja Gaiden on the XBOX (hardest game ever in the days after NES). It's all about the controls, much like a Street Fighter game where whoever is faster and more precise will pull off the moves. Or like Amplitude and Frequency for the PS2 (all timing and accuracy).
Once you get good at all the moves and switching weapons on the fly, you will become an insane fighter and can beat all enemies without effort.

It's games like these where those little analog sticks just don't hold up.
