Resident Evil 3: Afterlife hasn't even started shooting in Australia yet (where they are using the Outback to represent the Nevada Desert), but that hasn't stopped Constantin Films from preparing a fourth film in the survival horror series. Here's the lowdown from The Hollywood Reporter:

"Germany's Constantin Film and its genre production shingle, Paul W.S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt's Impact Pictures, are ramping up preparations for a fourth edition of their successful zombie franchise "Resident Evil" before the third film in the series has even begun shooting.

Constantin head of production Martin Moskowicz said in Cannes that the third film, "Resident Evil: Afterlife," will shift locations to shoot in Australia, with principle photography planned for November or December.

"Resident Evil 4" will be set in Tokyo, and Impact/Constantin is looking to shoot the film in Japan. "Afterlife" will be set in a post-apocalyptic world overrun with mutant zombies. "Afterlife" will play in the Nevada desert with the Aussie outback standing in for the American wasteland. In the final reel, the action will shift to Japan, setting up the fourth edition.

Milla Jovovich is set to reprise her signature role as zombie slayer extraordinaire Alice though no formal deal has been signed yet. Paul W.S. Anderson, who together with partner Bolt will produce "Afterlife" through their Constantin-controlled shingle Impact Pictures, is finishing the script for the third edition. Anderson directed the first "Resident Evil" and penned the sequel "Resident Evil: Apocalypse."

I wouldn't have thought so, as the previous films have only had a loose connection with the games (eg Nemesis), but who knows.

Still, I will go and see both of them when they are released.

Thanks for the info Sado :)

Hmmmm resident evil got 34% at Rotton Tomatoes, the sequel got 20%. Im seeing a trend here.

I had high hopes for the 2nd one as the first left off with a great cliffhanger. However PWS Andersons a hack and everything he touches turns to sh*t, so unless they recruit an amazing director i think ill pass

Highly unlikely. The report says that the fourth film will take place in Tokyo, Japan - so that automatically rules out the backwoods European setting of the Resident Evil 4 game.

I'm actually surprised that they are going through with a third addition since Apocolypse barely grossed domestically what it cost to make. I would love to see the series through to an end but I really doubt that they will follow the game's story line. I remember reading something a while back that said that they wanted to give a new story line to the series and rehash something that we have all played before.

Why did they make Nemesis such a puss in Apocolpyse? Take a look at the game and compare it to the movie. :loon:

the first film was... okay. The second was just atrocious. Did they really earn enough to warrant two sequels?

Are you speaking of the games or the movies? They are two completely different things.

Sorry guys but I really enjoyed both RE movies. Not as zombie flicks but just as basic action movies which happened to have zombies in them!! Come on now, Milla Jovovich AND Sienna Guillory both in short skirts and tactical holsters beating on the dead with asp batons? What's not to love?!!

I actually preferred Apocalypse, but that's just me!

I'm with you on that! Part 1 was too sci-fi for me, (although it was still a good movie), but Apocolypse was a great non-stop ass kicking explosion with hot girls!!! Who the hell cares if they weren't like the video games? Was the Evil Dead game anything like the movies? These companies are out to get dollars from EVERYONE, not just the video gamers. You can't make a movie that only one certain group of people will understand and be able to follow...You've got to make it appealing to everyone. Just ask Spike Lee!!

I loved Apocalypse, and I had a blast watching the first RE in theaters. Although, Apocalypse set my teeth on edge a little bit with it's references to the games. I sort of love them and hate them at the same time. Also, I love the "Action movie w/zombies" subgenre. Not that I don't dig the more suspenseful/pshycological zombie films, it's just good to see some undead ass get kicked. I think Apocalypse, at least, attempted some depth with the connection b/w Nemisis and Alice. Sure, I'd like to see a little more character, but I think Paul used up his little bit of character writing ability in Soldier. Either way, I'll be looking forward to both these films and Rotten Tomatoes can blow me.

That's right! Let's show the love!!! Funny thing is that when the trailer hits online for part 3 in a year or so, wait and see how many of the people bitching about RE now will be psyched about it.

Ok. Just Clarifying. I love the games too. REmake made me jump more times than 4 just because of the whole "what's around the corner" theme. While I love the movies I will aknowledge that you do not and respect your view. I guess we're in agreeance that Nemesis in the movie sucked. :drinking:

It would be cool if RE4 was nothing but a series of people getting chopped up by laser grids like in that one scene in the first one, I would pay to see that.

I thought the first movie was ok, and thought the sequel was crap, I'll rent anything with zombies in it but I have extremely low expectations for both sequels.

the set-up for the third film sounds cool...post-apocalyptic wasteland...woo-hoo!! my favorate kind of wasteland! i wasn't diggin' the hive atmosphere of the first movie too much, and the 2nd one didn't really tickle my fancy. if they make re3 like the road warrior with zombies, i'll be a happy camper!

i will keep an open mind. at least it will still have milla jovavich :drinking:

if the whole movie was about the zombies it would kick ass. The other stuff sucked bad.

If it would have just been about the zombies there wouldn't have been much to it. I thought the zombie scenes were great, (especially in part 1 with the first zombie dragging the axe across the floor!), but if that's all it was then I think it would have sucked. I'm a huge zombie fan but if a movie throws in zombies plus a few extras then who can argue?!!

More zombie scenes; at least triple the amount of the first two put together. Head shots; I can't stress that enough. Shotgun headshots like REmake when you just aim up when they're right in front of you. Mr. X and/or Tyrant. Tyrant is badass and could definately beat the tar out of Nemisis. Wesker. We need Wesker in some shape or form. Hell, Val Kilmer would fit the mold. Call him he needs the money (I may send him a check for $5.00 today.) Get rid of the Lickers. They have done they're job for now. And for the love of God, if they put Jill and Carlos in the movie let's get at least Leon or one of the Redfields.

The Resident Evil movies are not very good. Now Alice has superpowers ans can kill people with her mind, please what the hell is that about.

Its too much sci fi, they shoudl have stayed with the game, first movie should have been STARS members being trapped in the mansion. Second should have been leon kennedy and so on.

Paul Anderson uses his vision as a comic book, we seen it in Ailens vs preditors.

Its not even a horror movie but a all out action movie.

I think that the Resident Evil universe has expanded so much that there is room to take the stories in different directions.
Initially i was disappointed that the movies didn't follow the games. But now i think that had they mirrored the games then my affection for them would have been tainted, as i don't think they would have done the games any justice.
I don't think i will ever like the movies as much as the games (excluding gun survivor series), but i am looking forward to seeing where they take the story in Parts 3 and 4.

I like the movies. Sure they're cheesy, Matrix-slow-mo drenched, over-hyped, badly acted and have predictable plots (to name but a few problems)... but, hey, it's Resi! On the Big Screen! :)

I'm looking forward to the next instalment, expecting just what I expected and got from the last two..

I think, as harsh and as much as it pains me to say, Resident Evil started the zombie craze on the big screen. I really like the movies. I love a big budget zombie flick and I think this series is a nice tribute to Romero (as the games are).

Oh had to get on this. Stars memeber of course. I like Re2 movie for the fact that stars was in it but. Yes i agree that re1 was too scifi'ish. But 2 was just non stop action. We shall see if they can pull off a 3rd. As for the 4th. If they do it in japan it would sound alot like brainbread (Halflife 1 Mod). The creators of the game made it in a Neo japan format so. But as far as films go i say do a 3rd and be done with it. :)

I think he was referring to the movie. Nemesis was in RE2 (movie) and RE3 (Game)

Started playing REmake the other night. I farted around for too long and Richard ended up dying. I reloaded the game and hauled @$$ to get the serum, but I was still too late. Now I have to go through the game without the radio and Richard's help. Think I'll drink more next time I play.
