Cheesy... yeah but not too terrible. And the best part about the second one is that the demons come out of the TV. Now, if you're a kid and see monsters coming to life from a television show that may tend to creep you out a bit.

I saw both films just recently for the first time, and I enjoyed them both very much.... As for Zombie movies, I guess they fit into the procession category, but the victims did get infected by scratches.
Somewhat confusing there... :loon:

the first demons is awesome! i have watched that movie so many times...the 2nd on is ok i guess. demons 2 gets a little ridiculous. but! they both are pretty creepy. they used to scare the crap outta me when i was a kid. you gotta love the motorcycle samurai sword scene.
these demons kinda fit the same mold as the 28 days later "zombies." any sort of monster that was once a human being and can infect regular people and turn them into monsters by scratch/bite/blood are ok in my book.
i loved the ending to demons. but i'm not gonna spoil it for anyone

I have only heard bad things about Demons 3.
As for the collectors set. $110 seems like a steal to me! Better start saving my pennies!

The original Demons is a fantastically exciting and visually beautiful popcorn action/horror, and is by far the best product of the Italian zombie movie cycle (although the creatures here have more in common with The Evil Dead's demonically transformed sadists than Romero's shambling, lurching corpses). Short on conventional narrative cohesion and devoid of much exposition, it nevertheless belts along, bombarding the viewer with deft, stylish Grand Guignol and rip-roaring action set pieces at such a rate that the plot inconsistencies seem to no longer matter. This is the logic of nightmares - where thickening, feverish atmosphere and emotional, visceral spectacle take precedence over straightforward understanding and intellectual meaning; where the horrific (disembowelled cinemagoers, ectoplasmic mutations) and the preposterous (running swordfights on motorcyles, helicopters falling from the sky) coexist in sublime, uneasy harmony. It's a shame that Demons is often overlooked in favour of its greatly inferior contempoaries such as Zombi 2 and Zombie Creeping Flesh.
4.5 out of 5
The sequel, in my opinion, is something of a damp squib. While the original kept us sufficiently entertained as to ignore the glaring inconsistencies, this sequel lacks the fist-in-the-air action and plush stylised atmosphere of the first while its plot plods along like a rotten undead pensioner. The storyline in Demons 1 was flawed but was simple enough to be pushed to the back of the viewer's mind and worked well enough in its skewed comic book logic to string together the different threads of the plot. Demons 2's confused (and confusing) story is nothing more than an irritating distraction from the repetitive scenes of dull, uninteresting violence that make up the film. And what the hell was up with that ending?

Yeah lol I've been told The Ogre is doo doo in the worst way. Just another conveniently named flick meant to capitalize off of another's popularity. The Italians love doing that.
I plan to grab that collectors set. It looks awesome. Xploited has some great items.
If memory serves me correctly, The Church has been known to be referred to as Demons 3. The Sect has been listed as Demons 4! And believe it or not Cemetary Man has been known as Demons '95!
Also Luigi Cozzi's version of Black Cat got called Demons 6!!
There are only 2 for me though and that's the first 2 :)

Yeah I've heard that The Church was an unofficial addition to the series. Though I enjoy the film and have it in my collection, it doesn't compare to Demons 1 & 2.
BTW, speaking of Cemetery Man...I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE DVD RELEASE! FINALLY!

so, was michele soavi the blind guy? i haven't seen any really good pictures of him, but that guy seemed most like what i think he looks like.
i'm trying to reevaluate demons while reading all the praise on this here thread. i was kinda bored and annoyed watching it. i mean, i like the obvious argento elements (bold colors, dreamlike sequences of ascending and descending, wandering and crawling through confined spaces), but the music was incredibly bad, popular tracks seemed pointless and were distracting, the ridiculous dialogue was actually more horrifying than the attacks (which i thought were edited poorly and lost any element of surprise), and one of the better effects (demon emerging from the girl's back) went nowhere.
i dunno, i guess i could just sit back and try to enjoy it for it's dream/nightmare qualities, but i guess i was also looking for something to "wow" me and nothing really did, except maybe the scene with the tearing through the screen.
i'm gonna watch demons 2 tomorrow anyway, but i don't think i'll buy these unless i find em really reaaaalllly cheap.
this did not come anywhere near the artfulness of a mario bava or dario argento film, and i don't think (with the exception of right now) that i'll ever mention it in the same sentence as soavi's cemetery man.

No it wasn't Soavi.
YOU DIDN'T LIKE SIMONETTI??? *slaps eardrumbuz* lol I think the US metal was a bit annoying but this was also an 80's flick. You should almost expect it.
This, imo, doesn't compare to The Sect or Cemetery Man but I still plan to grab both. I loved them as a kid and I still enjoy them now.
BTW, Argento's daughter Fiore played Hannah the girl who turns into a demon in the air duct and wastes her boyfriend. She's quite a looker but not half as exciting as her half-sister Asia.

so which guy was soavi?
anyway, i've been thinking about the movie today, and i feel like i judged it too harshly. if i look at it as simply a complete dream or series of dream sequences it seems much more satisfying. the music, no matter how you slice it, is still cheese. like i said before, the songs also feel out of place or awkwardly placed in the film, mr. idol's included.
it's not as bad as i initially felt it was, but bava the younger doesn't demonstrate his directing talent here...if he has any. either that, or whoever choreographed the action did a really poor job, and the editor couldn't help much.

http://www.michelesoavi.com/2.jpg Soavi is on the left.
He was the fella in the subway giving out the tickets if i remember correctly. He was also in Phenomena as the detective who says fook all in Donald Pleasance's house near the beginning.
Both Demons and Demons 2 are two of my favourite movies, for reasons I don't need to justify  I can watch them both over and over again. Damn good fun :)

Never saw Demons 2 but loved the first one. I rented it from an obscure video store in the outer suburbs of Brisbane (Australia...where I was born) never went back (only to return the flicks obviously). I enjoyed the cheesy yet straight forward nature of it. Dumb yet fast paced and energetic.

The Ogre is one of those "in name only" sequels and comes nowhere near Demons 1 & 2 or The Church.
I only really count the first two movies anyway. The Church was not too bad but nothing to do with the series really, same with The Ogre as mentioned above

I'm resurrecting this really old thread because I watched this (late last night before bed) for the first time and it gave me frickin nightmares. I agree the music was cheesy (as hell) and the action sequences were really poorly done it still managed to creeped me out big time. I plan to watch the sequel this weekend.

I saw DEMONS at the theater, and it was an experience. One Thursday night back in 1985 I was reading the latest issue of Fangoria. On the back cover was an ad for the movie. It was just a picture of a dead body , holding a bag of popcorn, slumped over a theater seat. The seats all around him covered in blood . That was it, just that picture, and the name. Inside that issue, I found a very small article describing the movie. 'Movie goers find themselves trapped in a theater when the doors dissappear, and demons come out of the movie screen. '
Now, the next day my girlfriend (now my wife) and I are looking through the paper to pick out a movie to go see. At a new theater near us (a 6 movie multiplex) , it listed 5 of the movies and synopsises, except for # 6. It said "CALL THEATER FOR TITLE". So we did, and it was DEMONS! All excited, I said we HAVE to go see this! We were the only people in the theater for that showing, and I had been telling my GF about the Fangoria ad and description. This was a new theater we had not gone to before. And the way the theater was designed, the hall way leading into the theater was in the corner, that hall way and the theatear walls all covered in the same blood red velvet curtains.A few minutes after the scheduled start time we were still waiting for the film to begin . Finally I got up to go see if there was a problem. I turned to leave, and stopped.
:scare: "Lisa?"
 "Yes?"
:scare: "The entrance to the theater is gone..."
By a chance optical illusion, the hallway into the theater seemed to have dissappeared , what with the curtains hanging the way they were. Just then the movie started and I sat back down. But boy, I was a little nervous as we watched the show.

I remember when I first saw this movie. I was about 8...or 9...and I had gone to the videostore on a big demon kick because of DEMON KNIGHT - that movie is still to this day one of my all time favorites - anyways, I grabbed NIGHT OF THE DEMONS because that was something I knew and was familiar with. Then as I was browsing this caught my eye...this demon covered in muck with blood red eyes and sharp teeth. The pink lettering through me off but as I read the back I immediately knew it was a film I needed to see.
So I grabbed it up with NIGHT OF THE DEMONS and had myself a double feature night - unfortunately I made the mistake of watching DEMONS last at 12 AM with my uncle. Well my uncle wasn't what you would call a horror fan so every little thing freaked him out or made him jump. So DEMONS as you can imagine was a bad choice for him considering NIGHT OF THE DEMONS made him jump out of his seat at least 7 times.
I remember seeing the first demon and nearly running out of the room. My uncle spun around in his chair and looked away as the demon laid into it's first victim and from there on in - we both sat with our eyes glued to the screen and our hands gripping onto pillows.
It was honestly one of the most horrifying experiences I ever had watching a movie in my life at that time. It scared my and my uncle so bad we had nightmares for nearly a week. My aunt was all confused when she heard him in his sleep, sounded like someone was trying to kill him. The nightmares became a challenge for me, I had to prove I was bravier than the movie and re-watched it until it didn't scare me anymore. It worked. It still freaks me out from time to time, if it's really late and the light catches something wrong, but I have a lot of fun watching it and fond memories of the first time seeing it.
Here's my uncle, this big tough guy who everyone's afraid of, I mean this guy was tough - you ever crossed him once you spent 6 months in rehab. He didn't take shit from anyone. And then there's this movie that takes him down to a 9 year old child. It was amazing to me.
I saw the 2nd one a few weeks later at my local videostore and immediately scarfed it up only to be slightly disappointed. It felt like more of a comedy to me than anything and I was expecting the horror and grizzliness of the first one. It was still entertaining in it's own way.

Just saw 'the church' a couple of days ago. While it did have a lot in common with 'Demons' (aside from the obvious Dario presents, about demons etc) but it had a totally different feel to it than Demons 1 (haven't seen two yet). Some of the scenes in 'the Church' seemed a little too derivative, like the sex scene/ceremony which reminded me of movies like Polanski's "Rosemary's Baby" or de Martino's "L'Anticristo" (only not as effective IMO). Don't get me wrong it's a pretty good flick. Asia was awesome (what a cutie....you can tell she's going to grow up to be a real heart breaker). I would say it's worth seeing but it's definatly not as scary as 'Demons'.
I love Demons 1 & 2. I have them both on dvd and also The Church which was directed ny Michael Soavi who alos helmed the cool film Stagefright.
Demons is kinda controversy I guess in a way.....are they zombies or not? In the first film they are full demons but in the sequel they do bite and when they do the person turns into one of them which technically is a zombie type.
Demons 3: the Orge is a terrible film so stay away from that stinker.:poo:
