I can imagine making a low budget horror movie or any kind of movie must be hard. But this movie is absolute garbage.Bad acting, bad camera work, bad make up and special effects. There's nothing about this movie that would make me wanna buy it.I was pissed that i even spent 4$ to rent it.I think BrainDamage films should just give up.Shame a good low budget horror movie cannot be made today.

Don't get me wrong i admire anyone who tries making an ultra low budget movie.Hell i was part of one myself playing a retarded zombie. It just seems to me like no one takes any time to work on the scripts and throw these movies together as fast as possible. With some better dialouge this might have been a better movie. The premise itself was actually pretty good.

Ok so ya hated the movie and I do admire someone who has the guts to sound of in the face of the director. But there is one thing that I would like to clear up.
Time line
2000-2001 first draft of DEAD LIFE (i hated the script so I went back to the drawing board)
2001-2002 Final draft of Dead Life. (Ok I will swallow this draft)
2002 to october 2003 almost two years of shooting.
october 2003 to april 2004 for post production 7 months
It took over four years for me to make that movie. It was our first and what I like to refer to as our practice movie.
I can take any harsh opinions directed at me RottingSlowly but I put blood sweat and tears into this, I didnt just toss it together.
But all the same I thank you for giving it a chance :)

William,Cheers to you and your response.
This easily could have turned into a nasty thead.
Is "Dead Life" absolute garbage?
No way.
I would in no way refer to it as a practice film...its better than that.
Better than a big budget work like "House of the Dead" on a fraction of the budget.
Innovative camera work, good soundtrack and you actually were willing to do some different ideas with your Zombies.
Is it a great film?
Of all the low budget/no budget Zombie flicks out this is one of the best.
Compared to some of the others on the "Market" at this time, this is great for this budget range.
As a director myself,I am hyper critical of the competition, and this is one of the only films that has found its way into my dvd player for enjoyment after being studied.
We are all here for the same purpose:
The enjoyment of the Zombie genre.
Just be glad that there are filmakers trying to make films to please us in our taste of Horror films.
I dont see "Dead Life"as being thrown together for the purpose of "hey.lets make a quick buck"...it seems like a fan of the genre makng a film for other fans to enjoy.
Im sorry some people just dont get it.

Now I have seen some terrible zombie movies.... some with good plots that go bad.... some with terrible plots but good effects... Dead life is a typical Indi film... And suffers a little from the same things that most indi films have problems with (low budget and shall I say "diamond in the rough" acting) William Schotten had his hands full but I think for a first film he did just fine and I look forward to more. :)

Its not a personal thing that RottingSlowly did by posting his distain for my film. I see movies that I hate from time to time, we all do. The difference is with house of the dead ($10,000,000.00) and Dead Life ($7,500.00) We had bad acting because my friends were in it LOL!!! If I ha 10 mill I would hire real actors and shoot on 35mm instead super 8mm. We would have had cameras dollys and cranes and all of the stuff that make an A film an A film.
I expect to be hammered by a pissed viewer now and again. As a paying customer they deserve the right to bitch.
Regards and Respect William Victor Schotten

I agree.
I know I will not be able to please every fan with "Flesh Crawl" either, although I will do my hardest to try to.
But...by being a low budget indie film the lack of cranes and dollies tends to add a realism to films of our nature that Hollywood goes right past and misses.
I enjoy indie films for that reason.
We make do with what we can and thats where true creativity comes in.
I loved the stair shot near the beginning of "Dead Life"...the tracking behind the actor and up the stairs scene...how much would it have cost Hollywood to do that same scene?
Let me ask you this:
Are you pleased with the results you got with 'Dead Life"?
Because as a filmaker-Thats what comes first to me...
Am I happy with our finised film and will fans of the genre like it as well?
What do you thik?

I have the film on the way and have been following it's progress for absolutely ages so I look forward to seeing it (I have a soft spot for indie horror - seeing as I'm making my own!). But getting backj to the question in hand - will the soundtrack be available to anyone outside the US? And if so, any idea what the postage on that will be?

Hey Will like i said i liked the story by itself.I guess i'm kinda biased against low budget films of today. But when i look at movies like NOTLD and TCM i was wonder why no one can pull off classics like that anymore.I guess it was easier back then cause things weren't as expensive.TCM,NOTLD,Halloween, and Evil Dead were all made for pretty much nothing.I wonder if we'll ever see great low budget films like that ever again?

I get your point but all of those movies that you mention (and I love them all) were shot for around or more then $200,000.00 We only had $7,500.00 Two hundred thousand and seventy five hundred is quite a budget diff. I could make quite a film with that kind of money (or at least I think I could)
will the soundtrack be available to anyone outside the US? And if so, any idea what the postage on that will be?
Yes sir. I think the postage is around $5.00 to ship overseas but I will check for sur on that
Hopefully my copy will arrive in the not too distant future then i can share my views on it.
