no news isn't good news in this case...it's too quiet for this movie to be good.

Number 9's Fx make up looks so painful. So uncomfortable.
And utterly fantastic.
Hope some one here is going to tape the Leguizamo i/v on the late show (or, is it tonight show?) in a few days.
With, of course, a detailed transcript for us to read.

Oh, hey, i just thought of this.
Taking into account Number 9's cheek is ripped right open, i wonder if she features in any eating scenes? If so, it would look as gory as all hell, as half the "food" would dribble out of the side of her face!

Actually Kemper my view is that there has been a great deal of news with the release of pictures and a pretty A+ site. As far as ad time goes I have kinda developed a theory- Shaun of the Dead had very little ad time until the few weeks before its release. Universal I think has a kinda weird ad strategy, its kinda a given that Universal would hype Cinderila Man which it kinda half assed really (although summer time is not a real good time to release an Oscar bait movie, plus it was kinda a stock Ron Howard film good but sorta predictable-ie. overcoming adversity capturing Americas heart see Apollo 13, Beautiful Mind, ect). I think they dont really know what to do with a movie like Land. DOD 04 had an pretty meaty action/horror hook for them to get the younger less fan based crowds in and also the reaction to the first trailer that was put togather really was a catalyst for the pr machine. I think that Land while being excellent is hard to sell, thats why I think the metal music is being used in the trailers and the site (it is not a representation of the film product but as a tool to draw new fans and the general audience to the film). A great example of why Land cant really be overhyped is also because they might not be able to show alot of the film. Let us compare films from a movie company stand point shall we?
Example A: Aliens vs Predator: Fairly violent but mostly harmless non-explict. Has two general Iconic characters that people can relate to. Has enough scenes of silly cat jumps at of no where scares to get people excited about its level of "horror". Also is harmless enough to slot in the trendy rock/ metal flavor at that time.
Solution: OVERHYPE the film- despite its somewhat questionable quality and horror credentials.
Example B: Romantic teen comedy (of which there are too many, but can be kinda funny.......sometimes but usally not at all): Has mass movie audience appeal (both as a teenage crowd pleaser or teen/young adult date movie), innocent scenes of hijinxs and sex related zany events. Add the most popular prom song of that year and or teen popular figure be it female or male.
Solution: OVERHYPE: Even if it is the same crock of garbage just recycled with new settings and people.
Example C: Land of the Dead: Smaller lesser known cast. Director that is kinda known but kinda not. Really violent scenes with gore and people essentially eating people. A poltical theme that might be difficult to be grasped by alot of the audience "because they likes to see things blow up, but too much subtext may detract from the 'splosions."
Solution: Underhype and hope for word of mouth......no wait kinda hype with the use of metal music to give wrong persepction of film thus tricking the audience......no wait OVERHYPE but digtally slot in Ashton Kutcher.....No wait order pizza and snot coke of a strippers back....no wait.
And it goes on and on, so from my vantage point Land is kind of a tricky thing to figure out for Universal, to violent for PG 13 audience and kinda smart for the people who thought House of Wax was the end all of horror. Also remeber how long it took for Romero to get this film made, its not exactly box office gold for a studio which is why it only came to fruition during this new glut of zombie movies.
Have a good day
Quinn
PS: Sorry about the length, also is it just me or does anyone else want Ron Howard to go back to making films like ED tv or Splash?

Holy Molely Quinn! You really want to prove that this film isn't going to flop.
I wouldn't worry about it... When Land debuts in 17 days, all our questions will be answered. I feel it will be good enough to fulfill everyone's expectations... But just in case, the film comes way short of that, I hope the people on here will have the courage to say how they really feel about it.

Been seeing alot of a "Cheez-It" commercial lately that has a special offer where they're giving away movie tickets and there's a guy trapped inside a house with zombies coming through the windows after him. I know that's got nothing to do with Land but its kinda cool that they started running that commercial just a couple of weeks before the release! In fact, I've seen that commercial now more than I've seen the Land preview.

I don't think Word of mouth works over the summer...if it doesn't do well fast...well your going to have sticky feet at the dollar theater pretty quick.
Nobody wants this film to do better than me...I just haven't got any vibe at all for this one. They better have a two minute preview on the OC or something :)
They might not have the budget for a blitz and will hope that Rabid fans are enough. I'll probably see it 5 times myself at the theatre.

sadly War of the worlds is going to be released a week after Land, but after that theres barely anything being released at all.
everyones going to see War and Lands going to be forgotton about.
it may get a second wind if they advertise like hell the week after WOTW's released
That could work in Lotd's favour though.
If screenings are sold out of War of the worlds then people are gonna go and see something else, so Lotd could have a much larger audience.
I know what i'd rather see!

Is it just me or does it seem like every single picture released so far features the same exact handful of zombies, especially "big daddy" or whatever. I mean it's cool to have character zombies here and there but I am not sure if I like the idea of this "big daddy" zombie being in every other scene of the movie. I haven't read the script, does anyone know if he is a huge character in the film, or is he more along the lines of bub from DotD '78?

The centralized zombie character deviates from the standard human versus zombie formula. A smart zombie? I would just take care of myself right then and there. If zombies begin to think and plan things it can't be anything good. Look at the Resident Evil games. In all of them the zombies never really presented a real threat unless they were in great numbers. In RE4, the enemies (I can't call them zombies) were smarter and could communicate with each other to plan attacks. I don't think zombies should be able to communicate. It raises too many questions and concerns.

I think in a weird way, War of the worlds can compliment LAND. No doubt War will be on the most screens, and every kid (and adult i guess) is gonna line up to see the moronic Tom Cruise, and also, cause its a Speilberg film. And, for Speilberg fans, a return to the big FX spectacular, as opposed to stuff like Catch me if you can or that guy-stranded-in-the-airport film with TOm Hanks. I can fully see people lining up to see WAR, not getting in, and saying "Oh, well, lets see LAND". Assuming they aint 13 year old annoying kids.
Do no underestimate the internet. There are an incredible amount of horror/sci fi geeks (like us!! hahahaha) out there. I truly believe Land will have a good opening. Dawn was the 1st film i followed on the net, from announement it was being made, through to filming, to the trailer, to the cinema release and then the dvd. The net was full of buzz, where as, i am not totally sure the traditional media was. Showing the 1st 15 mins was a great idea, but hey, that was only on a cable channel. Not free to air.
Another important thing to remember is the a film like War or the worlds will always outgun a film like Land. Simply due to the content. And, the rating. And the names attached. Yet, for our little sub-genre, GAR is the master. The Spielberg of zombies. His 1st zombie flick in 20 years has already caused a great amount of interest on the net. Hopefully, this transfers to cinema $$$$. The only trouble here is, too many 15 year olds waiting for it, and not enough 25 year olds.
Cinema success is important, no doubt. But if Land makes (say) about $40mill in the U.S. at a theatrical release, i think that is pretty good for a "R" rated $15-17mill film. Land will be very popular in Europe i feel. Land's so-called political sub context (ie: alluded anti-Bush/anti conservative sentiments in the film) will play very well with those Euro people. With conversion, i beleive it could match $40mill. I dont think it will get more than $2mill here in Oz (If its rated "R" here, that means no one under 18 is allowed in. "R" films generally dont make alot of dosh here. Dawn only earnt about $1.5mill (it was rated "MA" here). It will easily be GAR's biggest commercial success. No doubt. Whether its enough to ensure any more, is up to YOU PEOPLE IN THE U.S. Go out and see this on the opening week-end! Take ya brothers and sisters. Drag ya mum and dad. Get granny out of her aged peoples home and take her too. Take the dog if you have to!
Do people here think Land will make the Top 10 for its opening week? I do. Maybe not the top, but certainly a possible 2nd or 3rd.
But, the key to the whole thing is dvd. I am convinced Land will be a blockbuster on dvd. This is where the movie will truly shine, and bring in a heap of dough for Universal (and our old buddy, GAR).
Quinn
06-07-2005, 10:24 PM
Corgi makes some excellent points, and just to add a little to that Universal will also proably look at Land in the same context that Corgi mentioned: a hard R that has some of a built in community behind it and will judge its success on it, not against a mega budget sure fire blockbuster like War. Universal will also look at the DVD sales, mostly because today they are almost as highly valued as box office draw. Finally one theme that seems to run through a great deal of the movie and horror movie news sites that Corgi echoes is the call for fans of the genre and film to really to go see it in the theaters thereby legitimizing Universals choice in aiding Romero in putting out one of his films.
Have a good day
Quinn (I think I just kinda repeated what Corgi said, but you know what they say repition is the best form of campaiging. Vote Corgi 2006 for Legislative assembly in Victoria of Awstraya)
PS: It would be weird if War turned out to be so horrible that Land beat it two weeks in a row despite the star power.
MADMAN
06-07-2005, 11:55 PM
The big problem with Land is that Universal is not putting enough oomph into mainstream ads. Just like with Undead over at Lion's Gate. I think that audiences, American in particular, are hungry for more of the genre. War, on the other hand, aside from having big name pull, is being marketed like crazy. I sat down on Sunday and watched TV for about half an hour and saw two War of the Worlds commercials. Both Lions Gate and Universal have the money to market their respective zombie films, yet they are offering up lackluster campaigns. It's as if they want these films to fail, or they think that we'll do all the work for them.
I'm sure somebody already mentioned this but i really don't feel like reading the 85 pages in this post to see what was said so i'll just be a "noob" and repost the topic....
Did anyone notice that they changed the beginning of the "Land" trailer from it's original internet release???
When it came online (sometime early last month) for the first week the beginning of the trailer showed scenes from the original "Night" along with scenes and background voices from "Dawn" and "Day" (yes you can hear Ken Foree's famous line, "When there's no more room in hell..." in the trailer)......but now it scrapped the "Dawn" and "Day" scenes/voices and extended the scenes/voices from the original "Night". I thought that was kind of corny. The pitch for the original trailer came out as explaining that "Land" was the final installment of the "Dead" series which was really cool. But with the new "extended" intro, it just boasts that this is a "George Romero film. The Master of Horror....so go see it!" and eludes the fact that it's part of a quadrilogy.
Grrrrrr :x ....i kind of wished i had burned the original "Land" trailer on my computer because it was alot more interesting and for us zombie fans...had more meaning. Oh well, life goes on. Just wanted to know if anyone else noticed that and what you guys think about it.

A lot of people are waiting for this of all ages. I'm surprised to hear 15 year olds even know of Romero. I'm 54 and I am so excited!! Kemper what a brilliant idea a smart zombie commiting suicide Romero are you 'listening'? I thought of a great idea for the next zombie movie it would work on on levels if you know what I mean. Have the people retake Washington from the zombies! I'm telling you that scene where 'big daddy rises out of the water is right from 'Apocalypse now'! I'm sure of it! Anyone agree?

I was so excited that a new Flick in the series is commin i nearly pissed myself. But i was recently frightened by somthing in a trailer i saw. A zombie weilding a gun. I assume that their running with the notion presented in day of the dead that the dead can learn, manipulate tools, comunicate, etc. However, the zombie in 'Day' was taught these things. Am i to assume that zombies are teaching other zombies to use guns? Somebody please ease my fear. If it is the case that zombies are teaching each other, thats fine by me, i just hope they explain it as that in the movie.

I have no worries about this film and I have only heard of one zombie in the movie that uses a gun but there are others he teachs to use other weapons.

I'm not too terribly worried...
I mean I think to myself, "Oh god, please just don't suck..."
Not that I think it will, but the fear will there until I see it.
I always would have thought zombies using weapons was wrong...
But really now...
One used a brick in Night, we saw them using all sorts of things in Dawn (if incorrectly), and in Day, we finally saw one talk, and then use a handgun.
George has pulled it off nicely before... so he can do it again.

Two things turned me on past my fears. 1) Everytime I see the photos of the landscape as wasteland I get the shivers. No one does Apocalypse like George Romero 2) I read in one of those Horror mags (Not Fangoria) that George Romero said I was making a this movie as a remake of 'Night of the Living Dead' but instead of trapped in a house they are trapped in a futuristic fighting security truck. The thought od Night of the Living Dead done with a twist didn't sound old but great! I'm just not sure from the article if he meant that was his original idea or was this what he actually did. Because I thought most of the movie was in the walled city. Anyway do you realize and I'm sure you do how we all waited hoped prayed for this and now nothing short of a zombie outbreal could stop this from coming to our local screens!

Still dont know what LAND will be rated here in Oz. Usually, we are not as uptight as the U.S. and mostly have alot of violence and gore left in.
But, ahh, eating scenes? Dunno about that. I'm assuming it will get a "R" rating here.

the similarities between this and the phantom menace are startling, where a genre defining film maker made 3 classics 20 plus years ago, brings out an ace trailer filled with action that makes all the fans salivate at the thought of the new one. Only for everyone to be grossly disappointed.
and with regards to LOTD being a remake of NOTLD but with characters stuck in a security truck, i would be quite happy for them never to remake Night of the living dead (or any film thats similar in concept) again
we've done the old stuck in a house/basement/miltary complex/shoe box etc etc while zombies attack sooooo many times.
seriously if thats all the zombie genres got to offer then let it die

Another thing that's worrying me is the acting, how do you guys think it's gonna be? Lets face it, bad acting can really screw a potentially great movie.

In answer to your question Emper0r...
*SPOILER*
From what I read in the script the events of the film mostly take place at night. The film is set over the course of about two to three days, beginning one evening (at dusk) as the Dead Reckoning team raid an abandoned town and continuing through the next night and into the early moning. There are some daytime scenes, but these are mostly set within the city and (apart from the scene with Asia fighting the cage zombies and a couple of other incidents) don't involve much zombie action so they haven't been used much in the promotion.

Wow! That trailer just looks awesome. Some really scary and atmospheric scenes. Its a bit of a bummer its all at night though. Bit sad to hear its only 90mins, but dont forget mates, the uncut dvd is yet to hit us! Whats the bet it wont be a paltry 9 minutes extra like Dawn04. GAR looks after us!
Oh, 1 more thing.
Asia Argento looks freaking hot!!!

I'm pretty down about the 90 minute thing myself but it's alot better than 0 minutes!! I just hope the DVD extras are worth a crap...Seems that most of the time when you watch the deleted scenes on a movie, you quickly discover why they were deleted! Dawn 04 had to be the worst example of overhyped extras in history. Although, sometimes the extras are well worth the money such as the Chainsaw Massacre remake special edition DVD!

Don't get to wild up about the smart zombies, the smartest one is big dady and the others are really not intelligant.
I seen tom Savi and it looks like he is wearing the same biker outfit as in dawn of the dead.

Wow double g. I am so excited riding my adrenalin high after watching the new trailer! I reluctantly figure the movie might be a vain, maybe even unconscious attempt to regain his glory by copying the success of Dawn 04 with a similar style. zombies at the fence, a armored car, a hero who frankly looks like the white hero in Dawn 04 a bit! That is my choking fear but not now! Oh me of little faith! What a exciting trailer...Scary even Yeaa !! Hurrah for us!! Yea hurrah for our side..still I'm keeping my expectations low but I am so excited. If I'm not mistaken, Romero was shopping this script around YEARS before James Gunn wrote his Dawn remake with the armored car/bus. Plus, the zombies at the fence thing was done pretty well by Romero in Day Of The Dead. As far as the hero looking like the one in Dawn 04, I can't seem to pick out a "hero" from these trailers. I think the closest thing to that in this movie is gonna be Big Daddy.
Big Daddy looks like one hell of an interesting character and I'm looking forward to seeing his part in the movie.

I went to see Star Wars 3 at the theathers today and the land of the dead trailer was not shown, not only that but not even a poster was hung in the theater.
This movie will not be a box office hit like the dawn of the dead remake, the marketing is terrible plus is due out in 2 weeks. None of the news channels or any program has mentioned land of the dead but mentions all the other movies.
In every romero movie something wrong always happen in all this movies plus the site still sucks, cant view nothing but pictures and the altered trailer.
If the movie does not make serious money then a 5th film will end up stright to dvd if he decideds on it.
jackskellington
06-11-2005, 12:12 AM
I agree that the marketing sucks but I think it will still do well from word of mouth. The Batman hype should be about over by the 24th and I'm sure Land will be number 1 at the box office from then until the 29th when War of the Worlds opens. Bewitched isn't gonna be much competition I don't think but unfortunately people flock to Alien movies...Especially Spielberg's. All in all though, I think Land should do well enough to warrant Universal to back GAR one more time.

Just saw another TV spot I haven't seen before on FX channel, (ironically owned by Fox!). This one started off with a shot of Earth saying something like, "There are so many million people on Earth...Most of them dead." Then it flashes through alot of scenes we've all seen before but with one or two I haven't seen such as a couple of zombies with collars and chains attached to a wall like in Day. Could they be the Shaun of the Dead guys? I believe that last review posted yesterday said that their cameos were of "photo op zombies." Another day down!!!!

You talking about Peter from Dawn '78? What's he got to do with Land? Oh!!!! Are you saying that he would have been a good choice to play Big Daddy? I don't know...He got the cameo part in Dawn 04...Land should remain fresh with no "pick out the cameo" spots of people from past Romero movies, (except for Tom Savini).

The movie will be out in theaters in less than 2 weeks, and the film's DVD release won't be for a long time. Besides, Neflix puts many upcoming movies into their database, even before a DVD is announced for a particular film.

Yeah, i had to look at that heaps of times to figure out what was going on. I dont know if many of you recall, but some where on this thread (or was it imdb?) some dude who claims he saw a rough cut of the film (and not 1 person believed him) mentioned something about a zombie sticking his hand into a mouth and pulling out some goodies.
I guess i owe that bloke an apology.
Now, to other matters. Did anyone see Leguizamo on one of the talk shows? I missed it. We get them over here in Oz, but its a crap shoot if its old, new, or not replaced by some special presentation.

Hey you guys saw this little review?
It was posted at Homepageofthedead and sounds amazing!!!
"Just got back from the "industry screening" of Land, with GAR in attendance (5 rows ahead of me).
Not to give out any spoilers, because I won't...but this film rocked. Does it have a different feel than Night, Dawn, and Day? Of course it does...why? Because of the fact that it's 2005, and movie making has changed over the course of the years. And also, this wasn't an indy film in the same way the othe three were.
BUT, what they got away with, gore-wise, was absolutely incredible. My buddy and I were laughing with glee through the entire flick at all of the violence. Let me put all doubts to rest: This IS a George A Romero zombie film. This is NOT a rip-off...it's the real deal. Head shots, decapitations, zombie biting people with the typical fleshy ripping...intestines...the works. I was SHOCKED at the amount of gore they managed to get into the film. I spoke with the Production Manager afterwards, and he assured me that the gore in the film is NOTHING compared to what's going to be on the DVD. Oh, and on the way out, I got to shake GAR's hand and tell him that this is an incredible film. Honestly, it's this generation's "Dawn". (And yes, that means it's more fast paced etcetc, which some purists might be pissed about)."
YEs YES YES!!

Here is what happend on the Dream documentary
From movies online:
"So what happened is what everyone keeps asking me. There was supposed to be an IFC special on for Land of the Dead called Dreams of the Dead: George A. Romero and it was supposed to run from 3:30-4:00pm. Alot of fans of Romeros who frequent our site have since emailed to saay "hey what the hell". I am with them.. what happened?"
Update: Here is an official response from the Network:
I have to apologize to everyone who tuned in to see Dream of the Dead - the behind the scenes doc about the making of Romero's Land of the Dead. It was originally scheduled to air this evening at 6:30pm (est), but was scratched at the last minute because the film's delivery was delayed.
The reasons are numerous, but have been rectified - the film will air this Tuesday/Wednesday at 2:30am(est)/ 11:30pm(pst), again Wednesday at 6:45pm (est). It will air several more times this month as well...
It is not a Romero film, but an exclusive look at the production of his latest Zobie flick, Land of the Dead. Making a film is not always easy and sometimes unexpected delays **** things up. It's part of the process of filmmaking, though it's not always easy to swollow. Again, I apologize on behalf of the network to anyone who this may have inconvenienced, and hope you tune in later this week to see it.

Dagnammit
06-14-2005, 10:14 AM
I seriously doubt that the "roar" we hear in the trailer will appear in the actual film. I'm almost certain that it just a silly, loud sound effect that they spliced into the trailer to add to the "sensory bombardment" of the clip. If you look closely, the sound doesn't even fit the movement Big Daddy's mouth. It's one of those silly cliches, kinda like how in almost all trailers now they have a white flash accompanied by a "whoosh" sound between each snippet of footage.

Close.
Romero is an Executive Producer on The Crazies remake, which basically means he gets to be little more than a creative advisor and they can still call the movie George A. Romero's The Crazies. At least it will help get George's name out there on another big budget Hollywood movie, which can only help his career.
There has been very little movement on the Diamond Dead project for some time. I believe they missed their deadline to start production because George was working on Land of the Dead. Funding seems to have fallen through, but could be put up again (especially if Land does well at the box office and George stays on the DD project) so the movie isn't dead, just in limbo.
Romero himself has said, however, that his next project might be directing The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, an adaption of a Stephen King novel with King himself doing the screenplay. It's not strictly a horror movie, more of a fantasy adventure (think Stand By Me with supernatural elements) so it should be an interesting project for King and Romero.
As for The Ill... it's dead, it's all messed up.

Got to see Document of the dead and now super psyched about the film. I had reservations that it was going to be a diffrent type of movie than the previous films, the documentary definitly showed that the film is Romeros only with clear film quality and special effects. One of the best things about it is that it shows scenes from the film specfically the scene with Blades, and I gotta tell ya it sent a little shiver down my spine. Essentially it follows the first two days of filming while also documenting Tom Savini's journey to the set and makeup job. You also learn that Romero has a 13 year old kid which is pretty wild, and that Tom Savinis is one of the most in shape 60 year olds on the planet.

The official site has updated, you may now play loot and shoot. It is an FPS and extremly advanced for a flash game, and is more creepy and scary than the entire Resident Evil movie series which isnt hard but still. Its a fun game but a little cheap, the zombies can get within spitting distance and the game automatically makes you stand there like a goof while you get eating by a really bad pixelated zombie face, still fun though.

There is another fan review on the front page of bloddy disguisting which gave it a 3/5. Both reviews seemed kinda simple and payed more attention to the attacking scenes then the allegorical aspect of the movie. Why people find the smart zombies a reason to roll their eyes is kinda beyond me, becuase the reviewer then goes on to refrence ROTLD which had smart but really kinda silly zombies. I dont know, I have a feeling that the combination of a plot that involves some noggin work and the intelligent zombies may lead the general audiences to kinda shy away from it. My interest in a Romero movie is mostly the story. Violence comes a distant 2nd. Also those talk back section on the movie sites are always filled with dumb wankers.

i think people will be accepting of smart zombies to a degree.
shooting guns yes, wandering places they used to go to when they were alive yes, hunting for humans to eat/kill yes.
but the movies conclusion (as described in that guys review) lifts the intelligence of the zombies to a level that is barely indistinguishable from the humans
its not long since day of the dead where, after many mistakes and an intense amount of conditioning, the doctor just about trains Bub to pick the phone up.
Yet we're supposed to believe that in the short period since Day, the zombies in Land have progressed to doing all these highly advanced things without any conditioning or assistance?
i just hope the progression of the zombies intelligence is based on what would logically happen to them and not just used as a plot device.
sadly from that review it sounds more like plot device
i still think its got possibility to be the best zombie movie ever made though

As far as what I got from reading the script the conclusion of the film is alot more settle than what the reviewer states. Also I read some other reviews from the guy and he kinda has weird taste, some movies he likes are kinda dumb and he doesnt always fully explain his reasons for disliking a film. He just kinda states that a movie was bad becuase it was not gory enough to keep his intrests but doesnt really say how that affects the movie quality or story telling. But I digress, the big dark horse of the summer for horror fans is supposed to be Devils rejects, everyone and their mom who runs a horror site seems to be going all weak at the kness about it but I could really care less (not really my cup a tea).

All the zombies were sort of evolving in Day of the Dead. Remember, what the one lady (can't remember her name but she was the only female in the movie) said when the zombies wouldn't come close to the corral? "They're learning, they know what will happen to them."

However, I'm wondering why there hasn't been more advertising on network TV. I remember seeing commercials for DOTD '78 on the major networks for at least a few weeks before that came out, though when Day came out I was in college and didn't see much TV at the time.
Is the lack of mainstream advertising a result of the present availability of specialized programming outlets (SciF Channel, IFC, etc.) and the Internet, or did they just drop the ball on this?

This is just me but I always thought that zombie's main advantage was that they were devoid of any kind reasoning. I know this sounds a little wierd but think about it, An outbreak would just pop up somewhere and there wasn't a whole lot you could do about it. They didn't use generals or strategy and you couldn't fight them because you wouldn't know where where to begin. They just were. They where a plague like locusts(or tribbles) and
the only thing you could do is try and quarintine the affected area before it's too late and if the quarintine broke you had to strongpoint you're position and try to wait it out,and that was it.
If they have a strategy ond they have objectives that makes them predictible and you can anticipate their next move.If they have a leadership then they have a target that can be taken out to cause confusion within the ranks and that makes them vulnerable.
But that's just me talking.

Went to a local bar last night wearing my Dawn 78 t-shirt and was approached by a guy who started asking all sorts of questions about zombies and seemed very educated on GAR's stuff. Anyhow, he started talking about Day and claimed to be the son of Gary Klar who played Steel. He showed me his drivers license and sure enough he has the same name but I was still weary. He told me that his dad will be in town this coming Monday for three days and that he would contact me so I could meet him so we'll see what happens. I asked him a few questions, though, to check out his authenticity and he stated that he and his dad are from Connecticut, that his dad and Ralph Marrero, (Rickles), were best friends in real life and that the opening scene to Day was filmed in Florida and the rest was in a mine of some sort around Pittsburgh. Oh...He also said that Rickles died last year or something, (Too many beers to remember!). Apparently the sequel talks have already started, I am not sure if this was posted but I found it at darkhorizons.com
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news05/050617h.php
"Land of the Dead" is the follow up to the classic George Romero 80's film "Day of the Dead" and if all goes well with this new release it will the beginning of a whole new "Dead" series.
The producers and director George Romero told the IESB that a sequel to this new film will made if this film is successful. Considering that "Land of the Dead" cost less than 20 million to produce, DVD sales alone should guarantee a profit to the studio.
In fact, all other projects of the helmer will have to take a backseat in the immediate future if Universal decides for an immediate follow up to "Land of the Dead" including his involvement in Mick Garris' Masters of Horror Anthology that is currently being filmed in Vancouver.
The next film will be a second chapter to the story that we see in Land of the Dead, we will see the surviving characters continue their search for survival in what has become a World of the Dead.

Yes and no. Romero never had to bow down to Hollywood in the past. They undoubtably came to him as the zombie genre was being revived. I believe that Romero will find new resources and make new connections that will enable him to create a strong foothold in Hollywood which will enable him to create whatever production he wishes (perhaps a new "crazies") It will be "Hollywood", though. We will see it in the acting and the effects that will lend a more modern and realistic mood to the new dead series. Plus, I see Romero bailing out before Hollywood could taint his baby.

Not sure. But "GOESAROUND", you are wrong buddy. Miguel dies near the start of the script, not the end. The start of the Day script 100% says "1985", but Romero has set his movies "in the present day".
I think Dawn is a matter of weeks after Night, and day is like 5 years after Dawn.
I havent read anywhere where GAR has given LANDS time line. To me, it makes more sense to have it set AT THE SAME TIME AS DAY!!!!
Yes, i know, sounds a bit dumb, but i really believe it pans out better.
Cause alot of the scenarios make no sense if LAND is set, say, 10 years after DAY.
As i have stated some of these reasons before:
Money is useless - to me, that is one very big real weird thing about LAND.
Fuel loses its combustability after about 6 months (i know, i have a lawn mower with a full tank in my garage right now that WILL NOT start!)
I find it really odd that the stores they raid, UNIONTOWN, still have stock in it. I mean, come on, wouldnt they have raided it by now? Really, they'd be going 100 miles in all directions for a stale pack of smokes and a bottle of water. Mind you, why arent they growing food?????????
Ammo if not stored right, perishes real bloody quick.
Clothes would rot too. Aint too many tailers seen in LAND, i bet!
How would they make toilet paper?
All canned food would be off. ANd, i mean all! So, like, how many farmers are in LAND?
I could go on. Thats an aspect of what i anticipated GAR might go into in his 4th film, but i guess all that self-sufficent stuff got in the way of the story.
Pity, but its all just minor quibbles.
But, hey, makes ya think, huh????

I don't know how well Land will do at the box office, but here's the competition it will face when it opens at theaters come next Friday.
Rank / Week / Film
2 .... Batman Begins
2 .... Mr. and Mrs. Smith
3 .... Madagascar
4 .... Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith
- .... Bewitched (Openning)
Then the week after, War of the Worlds opens (7/1/05) & the week after the Fantastic Four movie will be released.

Well, fire works are pretty simple things to make, really. All you need is something combustible, something to hold it in with one open end so that when the substance is lit, all the thrust comes out of one end, and then a small piece of metal to run electric current through as fuse.
There you go, plain and simple.

What are you all talking about? Big Daddy is cool all the zombies are cool. It's like you all are against this (probably) awesome movie. But the zombies make-up does remind me of RotLD 2... It's very cool though :) :zom1:

I dont think money in land of the dead is werid. I mean if you look at the government today, if a war or something bad happens the government has a way to make sure money is still good.
I learned that on television about undergraound bunkers, and havig the government still work.
SO this movie being the politicians are still in charge of this community that is left over.

money is just a symbol of power.. .at least i think.
and i dont think hes a politician, just a rich mother f'er with lots of money and able to use it to strike fear into his underlings which in turn allows him to rule without anyone trying to overtake him, until now muahhahh

I have to go with Corgi on this one... Money or what is inherently valuable is a relative concept. But in the world of Land of the Dead, I can't see any currency being a viable source of trade in their economy.... Food, water, and the other necessities of living would be the basis of their market... Not dollars, and rare & precious metals.

it shouldnt be valuable, but the leader is trying to cling on to the old society with the only thing that he has over everyone else, which in fact is money.

I know of little drips, and drabs from the script, but I don't want to know too much... I remember in Dawn '78 when Peter and Flyboy were in the bank, and he took the money and Peter said, "You never know."
Even if Romero's society did cured their ills, and they got back on their feet, they probably wouldn't use the old currency anyway. :loon:

Me I'm not a huge fan of the new look (Of course I haven't really seen it)of the zombies. I prefer Night of the living dead 78 and 90 the fresh look so to speak. HOWEVER, in the new uncut, or European trailer there was a short scene of the zombies milling about and it really looked like hell itself. I caught a glimpse of a animatronics woman zombie that was seriously awesome. She looked alot like the zombie holding the doll who goes from pathetic to killer in Night of the Livivng Dead 90 that Barbara blows away but with a head extension like Return of the living dead 3. It was one little creepy endomorphin happy scene. In less then a week we are all going to have a lot to sayhere

A even a bad Romero film is better than 98% of the Zombie movies out there. ;-)

It's something to hope for! I like how at the bottom it says, "So everyone needs to get into the theaters to see this bad boy if we want more Romero! See it twice! Take your Mom!!" I admit, I get into the movies for free, (One of the perks to being a cop), but I'll be paying to get into this one so I can feel like I did my own little part in the success of it!!

If the general audience out there has your attitude toward Romero's film, the movie should do quite well.

I do believe that "Bub" lookalike is Simon Pegg's cameo role. He stated many times that he requested Greg Nicotero make him up to look very much like Day Of The Dead's No#1 zomb. However, I don't believe the character is supposed to actually be Bub. Simon and Edgar's zombies are both captured by the humans to be the subject of 'photo souvenirs'.

I still cant see no Bub. But, Sado, i think you are right. Simon Pegg did ask to be made as Bub.
Buti just cant see it. Unless it the quick flash of the zombie in the cage, where "Slack" is introduced.
From what i know, Simon Pegg and Wright are zombies who you pose with a photo.

Anyone else catch that "Dream of the Dead" or whatever on IFC? There were quite a few scenes featured which showed smart zombies, one of which was the Tom Savini cameo.
It was kind of weird, his character pushes away a human, and then slashes at him with a machete, but more importantly he doesn't really seem at all interested in eating him which kind of disappointed me. I find zombies to be a lot more creepy if their main motivation is to eat you rather then to slice you up or shoot you.

I seen a completey new trailer for land of the dead and the disturbing part is
a scene where a zombie was holding a guitar like as if he was playing.
I just hope that romero didn't make it out to be a comedy like that, I hate zombie comedy.
