I just received the Irish Indie "Detained" DVDR in the mail from the film maker. Jason Tammemagi The same exciting day as seeing the trailer from 'Land of the Dead'. You know what the make up on the zombies in 'Detained' actually seemed better then most of what I saw in the trailer! Dont get me wrong I accept Romero doing his modern version of the 2004 Dawn of the Dead action star style, but I do long for the opening of his trailer style. There is a bit of that in "Detained" Get this if for no other reason then to hear 'Day of the Dead's' Jarlath Conroy say "Jesus Joseph and Mary!" when he see a zombie! The camera work in this is far better then most of the indies out there. Far better. It even gave me a couple moments of heebie jeebies! It even has a bit of Romero 'Dawn of the Dead' and 'Sean of the Dead' satire and still be a serious zombie film. It's good it really is. My only complaint is to me the obscurity of the outbreak and the similarities in looks to the the two young leads but fans of the 'reality show' apocalypse definitly email him and buy this. It comes in DVDR only but it worked great in my hp pavilion computer. Here is Jay's email jay@zombiesdontrun.com It also had great creepy 'music' during the credits. I liked this alot.

Hey thanks for the vote of confidence Sam! Glad you enjoyed it! You know, your point about the visual similarities of the lead is something I had never considered before and is totally valid with hindsight. Definitely something I'll be bearing in mind for future projects so thanks for that!
As for getting it out there, well my situation seems to be the same as many people who have had little indie films - for me to get proper mastered dvds with boxes and covers would mean I'd have to charge quite a bit for them just to cover costs and I'd feel wrong charging people an arm and a leg for a 15 minute short. I'm still searching for better deals but at the moment I just have dvdr copies. I'm trying to organise a decent distribution method so I'll let you all know as soon as there's a good way of getting these out to people.
Thanks!

Your welcome Dogthang! But I would just sell it.It's more important that people can buy it then to worry too much about price. Hell if they pay the prices they pay for 'seafood' at 'Red Lobster' which is just sea wrack then I would press on for a really superior production like yours. Two things..Can you not talk to the other Irish Zombie flick. The one that's a feature 'Mad Cow' or something and have your as an opening short? The other thing that really pleased me and tell me if I am wrong but at the end of the film when the great munching zombie looks up does he not, as we do hear 'someone taking that old whirley bird and getting the hell out of there'. Is that sound of a helicopter a bit of Romero and MacDermot homage? Or am I just too much of a Romero nut? If it is that's brillant.

Yeah, the helicopter was a definite Romero tribute but there was a little more to it than that -
SPOILERS!!!!************************************** ***************
The whole short film, as you probably got, was designed to be rather bleak but the helicopter at the end was a symbol of hope. In Romero's films (and others) the helicopter is the device of escape - it symbolises a safety that is not found on the ground. So the last zombie looking up at the helicopter was to show that there is still hope there as, if there is a helicopter, then there are people who aren't zombies.
SPOILERS OVER!!!!!!**************************************** ******
So there ya go!

Well Dogg I'll keep looking up.... :) Ya see I used the symbol of hope there... But wait... That would mean I was on the ground... With the zombies... Dammit...

I was wondering Dogthang did you get a copy somehow into George Romero's hands? What with Jarlath and the homage 'thang' I would think he would appreciate. Of course I dont have his address but where there is a will there is a way, maybe c/o Anchor Bay or something but you must have already sent him one.

Haven't yet managed to get Romero a copy but that is definitely on my 'to do' list! He's fairly vocal when he doesn't like something though so I'd be pretty nervous!

What are you kidding? He dosent like Resident Evil 1-19, and slasher flicks and embarrising rip offs. Yours he will enjoy . If for no other reason then seeing Jarlath and your fine camera work, and superior zombie make up(Maybe, and i say maybe better then what I v' seen of Land of the dead). No send it, hell send c/o Anchor Bay, the effort is minimal. By the way what about my idea of combining it in theartre presentation with the Irish zombie flick "Mad cow' ? You might need a publicist or business manager.."No..No it aint me babe" but someone.
