Found this on Fangoria:
April 26: CHILDREN PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS again
Variety reports that Bob Clark, who is already involved with a redux of his BLACK CHRISTMAS (with the writing/producing/directing team of Glen Morgan and James Wong) is now gearing up to remake his first horror film, 1972's CHILDREN SHOULDN'T PLAY WITH DEAD THINGS. Clark has completed the update script, and will direct the $12-million feature starting in September on British Columbia locations. The original was about a group of oddball filmmakers who travel to an island graveyard and disinter a corpse, whereupon the rest of the buried dead rise from their graves and attack the desecrators; no word yet on how closely the new version will hew to the old. Clark is also producing, as part of a new deal with Canadian veteran Victor Solnicki, who was behind such David Cronenberg classics as THE BROOD, SCANNERS and VIDEODROME. —Michael Gingold

just when you thought it was safe to watch a "classic" zombie movie again:lol:
wow, hmm remaking children shouldnt play with dead things could be an easy project to do and make well, seeing that theres not really challenging looking about teh original one.
If i can have one suggestion to a writer/producer/director that might be floating arount atz, dont have the zombies raise a sail at the end of the movie.
I like this movie, but not enough to get butt hurt about a remake being done about it.
wohoo more zombie movies:drinking:

Yeah, this is a good one to remake. It's hard to mess this one up. Hey, you never know?
If it sucks, just add it to the pile of other Z-movies that are crap.
But, if it's done well, then it will have the prestigious honor of standing next to some of the greats.
Let's hope for the best!!!

LoL I totally Agree, this film so SHOULD be remade. It can be done so much better with a budget (ANY BUDGET). The Original had such possibilites but well short of the mark (it's hardly worth watching, If there were no Zombies in it, I'd have never seen it).

I hated this movie! If they remake it keep it off the screen so Romero can make a sequel to 'land' his way with no famous cast and you know what no color! But this movie sucked. This will get some of you worked up, but you know what I liked "House of the dead more then this!

...Holy God, you're right!!! If Gunn doesn't get it, then there's no God.
Anyway, some thoughts:
I got my genitals caught in a vice, once (do not ask how). Strangely, hornets were then applied, as well as salt, sand paper, rubbing alchohol, and copious amounts of hypodermic needles. This experience was preferable to watching House Of The Dead.
However, it's not the worst zombie film in history.....THAT'S Children Of The Living Dead. Not to be confused with 'Shouldn't Play, which I liked.
BUT, it was by NO means perfect, so in all I'm really up for this remake. :)

House of the Dead was far superior to Children of the Living Dead. Far superior. House of the Dead was inept, but I enjoyed the jiggling flesh and fight scene antics. It was a "get drunk and cheer for more" film.
Children was just a wreck and made Boll's House look like a big screen classic.

Boll's House of the Dead is just an easy target for net-critics and a multitude of bandwagon riding horror fans who don't want to be counted in the minority of those who had fun watching the clunker.

Before I contemplate suicide any more intensely, let's get back on topic.
When I first saw 'Dead Things, I hated it so much I couldn't even finish the freaking thing. Yet somehow, over the years, it grew on me to the point where it's become a personal fave. How did this happen? A number of things I suppose, but at the end of the day, I'm still on board for the remake.
And no, I haven't seen Olen Ray's Alien Dead...but if you're saying it was worse than Children of The Living Dead, then I don't WANNA see it. :puke: :x

Bob Clark was talking recently about where his pair of remakes are going, and dropped some interesting stuff about 'Dead things.
Seems they're kind of elaborating on the backstory tossed-off by Alan in the original, about the island caretaker going mad & killing his family....
Seems the new one re-animates the concept a bit by introducing the element of a "ghoul" who committed a massacre on the island 15 years ago (or he killed 15 people, I'm having a hard time remembering), thereby turning the island from a resort to the burial island we're familiar with. Am I the only one who thinks that's cool? I'm really looking forward to this thing now.

This is a GREAT idea for a remake!! When Alan Ormsby puts the stupid hippie girl in front of him on the stairs as the zombies are coming up and then shoves her to them!! Note the way she looks at him as they carry her away and also note that the zombies even pause and look at him the same way as if even they are saying, "You're such an asshole!" But then when he goes into the upstairs room and Orville is sitting up on the bed waiting for him...What a Scene!!! The only drawback is the slow motion ending but other than that it's a kick ass movie. As for Goesaround...did you honestly like House? I'd just as soon spend an evening at a Celine Dion concert than sit through 5 minutes of that movie again...But if you really did like it then hey, more power to 'ya. There must be some fans out there somewhere to warrant a sequel.

I don’t think anybody have the guts to remake a twisted movie like Burial Ground! You could only get away with stuff like that in the 70s and earlier 80s.

Why not tackle Burial Ground? Hell, go ahead and remake The Gates of Hell, House by the Cemetery and even Zombie since Fulci is dead!! There should be no problems getting the rights to those! Since Dawn 04 did so well, (which Universal seems to have forgotten ala their failure to put the Land trailer on TV), then Zombie should be next since it's sometimes referred to as Dawn2 shouldn't it? I would personally really like to see that remade since it has some of the best feasting scenes ever!!

Where there any feasting, gut munching scenes in Dawn of the Dead 2004?!!
Not that I can recall. I don’t want to see watered down take on one of Fulci’s classic zombie movies, and I don’t want to see german terrible none budget aka Zombie90, remake either.

No there weren't any scenes like that in Dawn 04 and I never said anything about them being in it. I was only pointing out that each remake will bring something new. Also, keep in mind that a feasting scene doesn't have to mean splatterfest...It can simply be a dark room with chewing sounds and a moaning victim to make it work.

...I've been watching Burial Ground a LOT lately, it tends to inspire my creativity for stories of my own...which is why I find it ironic that, off the top of my head, I can't think of a way to approach a 'Ground remake. Maybe beef up the monk angle a bit, figure out just what the Hell those Etruscans were up to...Hey, this isn't a bad idea after all. Youse guys got any sugs for a 'Ground remake story? Now I'm eager to hear 'em.
And interestingly, there WAS an attempt at a Zombie remake at one point. I'd normally be against that sort of thing, but their approach eventually morphed into the Zombie comic from the (sadly) defunct Blackest Heart Media, and that comic was FANTASTIC. So who knows. I honestly think a 'Dead Things redux is so appropriate because I agree with the notion that it, while very swell, could easily be improved into a much finer beast.
I wanna see the beast!!!

...FULL-ON GUT MUNCHING.
Let me not mince words. That is what the genre needs right now. And maggots. Well...alright, throw some intelligence into the mix, but let's not get PC about this. Dawn '04 was a HELL of a lot better than it had any right to be, but for as violent as it was...it was mostly violence inflicted on the zombies, head-shots & such. Let's let the dead do a little damage, huh?
All the more reason for everyone to get together on a 'Ground remake....

I don't know, the janitor in the closet was a munching scene. Granted, it went by pretty quick, but still.....
There were some pretty nasty "bite" shots, though. The overhead garage zombie assault for one. And of course, the opening scenes with the little girl.

The part in Zombie that I was referring to when I mentioned "best feasting scene" the other day was the part where the group goes back to the doctors house to get his wife and they find those 3 or 4 zombies eating her in the middle of the living room floor. It's not particularly gory or anything like that, it's just extremely morbid. I think it's got alot to do with the music and how a couple of the zombies SLOWLY come after the group and the rest continue eating. I can go either way on how much gore is in a scene like that but I just think that particular one was done flawlessly. Romero always does the slow movers but nobody did them slower than Fulci.

Jeez look what i started lol.I think alot of the old 70's zombie movies could use an update.I mean why not?If hollywood is gonna do the remakes give the new treatment to movies that actually need it.Oh and corpse i think i came up with a good story for a new Burial Ground.Remember at the very end when that quote came across the screen?Something from the prophecy of the black spider.I would play on that making it that the monks got into some really evil :poo: and cursed themselves. Then that scientist somehow resurrects them by reading an incantation.I always find zombie movies with a black magic touch very interesting. This could be a good way to explain them coming back. They never really explain it in the original.

Evidently the lead has been cast...
Director Bob Clark is making steady progress with his Children Shouldn't Play With Dead Things remake. Actor Adam Beach, previously seen opposite Nick Cage in Windtalkers and recently cast in the new Clint Eastwood WWII movie, has been confirmed as the male lead. Clark intends on remaining true to the original movie's spirit, while updating it slightly with a few interesting twists for today's audiences. This time around, a group of filmmakers head out to shoot at an old mansion on an island with a bizarre past. Ghouls show up, calamity ensues with a heapin' dollop of humor.
"Other films have handled zombies with comedy before, but in those movies it's the humans that are comedic in the way they react to the zombies. Well, we wanted a fresh approach, so in this one I want to show our ghouls living it up, doing the funny stuff while the people run around horrified! It's going to be outrageous and frightening, but we're also having fun with the genre. Think Monty Python with zombies!" says Clark.
