What is the scariest Resident Evil game and why?

For me, it's the Resident Evil 1 remake. My god, I play this game late at night, by myself, with all the lights off...and then I wake the whole house up screaming because some stupid thing jumped out at me from the shadows, and then I get embarassed. Graphics are not everything, but when the gameplay is this damn good, they sure do add a lot to the experience.

I own the entire series on Gamecube.

My husband and I have the whole collection. He plays and I guide him. :)
I like the very first one for the playstation, Resident Evil 1. I remember it came out back when I was in high school and my brother and I used to play it. We would play it at night with all the lights turned off and we would freak out. :) Good Stuff!

Probably the 1st game on the ps1. I'd not played a game like it at the time, the atmosphere was great, the music and especially the bloody hunters!

I have the series on the Gamecube. I'd have to say the second one always creeped me out for some reason. The first was straight up scares, but the second always got me thinking which made me uneasy at times. I'd wander through the sewers and find a body, and I'd start wondering how he got there. More of a psychological scare factor for me.

Zero and 3 seemed too much to me like 1 and 2 with a different paint job.

I LOVE 3! Honestly, I don't think Zero is scary at all. Though I do like the game.

The only games in the series that I've never played are the spinoffs like Dead Aim, Survivor, and Outbreak. I heard they're not very good anyway.

none of them on the whole have really freaked me out before, but a few moments have:

re1- when the first zombie turns and looks at you, and the zombie hands crash through the boarded up windows:scare:

re4- when those damn villagers keep chanting when im trying to do stuff

I'll have to say the first one, original or director's cut. Yes, perhaps the latter ones have better animation, but for sheer atmosphere Resident Evil is damn scary. Whether it's the decay in the sewers, the peeling wallpaper or the oppressive confined corridors I don't know, but the ominous sense of danger is almost palpable and to some degree that fear is lost in the later episodes, because we know (or think we know) what's around the corner.

i'd have to go with the remake...the graphics were just insane...and the addition of the crimson heads was even more frightening! part 2 and 3 have more of a psychological effect on me like R.E freak mentioned....theres just something about a city overrun by the dead that always gets to me, and RE2 and 3 put me right in there.

I've just ordered 'RE Gaiden' for the GBC off E-Bay. From what I've heard it's scary in the 'Oh-My-Gawd-This-Is-Pants' kinda way... :scare:

But I just HAD to have it... Bary Burton in a starring role - where else would you get it?

It's a toss up between Nemesis and Code Veronica X. In Nemesis I was always waiting for that damn thing to show up at the worst time possible. Code Veronica X because I'll admit I jumped a few times when those Black Lagoon Monsters jump out at you from nowhere and Alexia is creepy. Zombies were a bit more aggressive too, some of them shambled pretty fast when they caught sight of your character.

I think the remake of number 1 was the scariest, it was all the shadows and stuff it really creeped me out and the giant spiders gave me the shivers.

Resident Evil 2 I think is the best Game.

It took a whole new type of gaming to the game world.

When I first played It, I thought it was stupid, I didn't know how to use the controls and couldnt even get passed the first part.

But When I realized it was a zombie game, I keeped trying at it and eventually loved it.

The story was great also.

After Resident Evil 3, I really did not like the story line, it became to much of sci-fi story.

I became a master at Resident evil 2 beating the game at a record time in 1 hour 15 minutes without using any cheats.

Resident Evil, Gear Gear Solid and Silent Hill took the gaming world in a whole different direction.

I agree. Some people think the whole survival horror format is tired.. but I love it!

I'm very fond of resi 4, but to tell you the truth, I loved the traditional resi's... Resi One on the Playstation had me nearly weeing myself at times.. :scare:

Seems laughable now, but DAMN, that game ooozed atmosphere.

Nemesis, that was definately the only one that had the fear level way up there. I loved the characters in Resident Evil 2, so it was definately the best Resident Evil game, but not the scariest in my mind.

I think Resi Four was really good, though a bit on the sci-fi side, it still had the elements, and made me feel like a hero (a homosexual hero...), and the epicness was good.

i'm pretty good at dodging his attacks now, plus with me beating it several times i've unlocked all weapons with unlimited ammo, so good 'ol nemisis doesnt have me scared like he use to...I blow him to hell, pretty much every time he comes after me, but I remember those first times I faced him... :scare: i ran like a frightened little schoolgirl!

um, resi 2 was probably more sci-fi than 4 was, but thats how i feel...dont get me wrong though I think 2 is the best in the series.....and Leon gay? what the hell? :loon: That character has got to be the most kick ass character in the entire series! (besides wesker) did you see those roundhouse kicks he was throwin in 4? or how about him jumping thru glass outta 2 story buildings?
and I dont think a gay dude would be checking out Ada like he was...

Resident Evil 1 the remake the first time, then the thrid when the zombie covered in grrenades shows up, it Scares the hell out of me nad the Crimson Heads, i once wrote a story for school aobut my experience fighting then. "The Thing that has Impacted my Life Most" i believe was the name of the project, RE 2 and 3 are pretty scarry too, 0 and 4 are not though

Outbreak, when you get a good team of friends, and you all play in the same living room with a few TV's and have a grand time and know that you must win and get really into it, the tension can really build.

No resident evil scared me, actualy no movie or video game has everd scared me. If it wold be anything close to scary then i would have to say the silent hill series.

I only play fps and survival horror, and the best series are RE and Silent Hill.

My favorite resident evil are outbreak series. They are awsome because you play online. I just wish there were more levels in outbreack 1 and file#2.

But yea horror games and movies dont freak me out. Kinda scary eh? from last i herd about these things, the people who arnt scared turned crazy or something :scare: lol but yea. Outbreak it da best.

Finally someone that agrees that outbreak is good.

It wasnt made to play single player, if it was they would have made it one in the series. It was made to have fun with friends and with friendly fire and what not, and if you are playing with friends online you will have a grand time.

I like Outbreak even in single player. Leech-man was testing my nerves though. You gotta admit, the first scenario when you come upon a street full of zombies while trying to put that detonator together is pretty cool and then sending the whole lot of 'em to hell is icing on the cake.

I didnt like outbreak because of the "virus" meter, the lack of savepoints, the stupid AI, the random things characters said didnt help out with the atmosphere the game was trying to imply. I didnt like the fact that there are "levels". It never showed how your characters got someplace, for example the second level is the in the underground labs from part 2 after you beat it,you magically end up at he hospital on the second floor...what the hell? I really like the battle that comes from traveling from place to place in "classic" RE style gameplay. I didnt have online gameplay available, but I did try it once, and that wasnt any better then my offline play. the lack of voice chat was really frustrating. instead being able to actually communicate, there were these pre-set phrases that didnt always work. example: I walked by a magnum but didnt pick it up because I had one, then I noticed the player behind me didnt pick it up, probably because he didnt see it, so instead of being able to tell him "hey theres a magnum behind that bush." me and 2 others were using the stupid preset "go" and we were all pointing at the bush yelling "go! go!" :x that just seemed stupid to me. a chat capability should have definetly been used. im sure playing with a group a friends in a room would be fun because you can all communicate in "real time" and not have to deal with the stupid pre-set commands. I think what most killed it for me was the fact I traded in silent hill 2 and 3 for this piece of garbage. I was expecting sooo much more from capcom, and instead got pooed on :poo: and lost 2 good games in the process....there were some good things from outbreak thoug...i really liked the graphics and the character and zombie models were cool also. the levels themselves were genious. and the CG's and music were awsome...i really liked the intro music it had such a classic RE feel to it. there were a lot of things that could have made this a 10 in my eyes, like being able to trade weapons and each characters "specials" were cool but the bad outweighed the good by far.

Yeah, I didn't like the fact they put a timer on each scenario. This was a bad move because you'll have to start all over if you waste to much time.

the stupid AI, the random things characters said didnt help out with the atmosphere the game was trying to imply.

You gotta admit that the AI is laughable. Why drop 50 handgun bullets for a red herb and then walk away I'll never know. I'll give George a few bullets, he'll reload his gun and then drop the rest of the bullets for a lead pipe. Well, whatever... my bullets now. I did get pissed when everyone attacked the giant leech with scrub brushes and I'm yelling "C'mon!" and the computer NPCs will take a few steps toward me then turn around and attack the leech again in melee combat. They make good cannon fodder and pack mules though so it wasn't really all that bad. As far as the random talking... I just keep pressing the Adlib button in response.

I think what most killed it for me was the fact I traded in silent hill 2 and 3 for this piece of garbage.

Trading Silent Hill 2 & 3? For shame! :naughty: Besides, places like EB give you like 5 bucks for a game and resell it used for 2 dollars under retail. Ugh... I'll pay the extra few bucks for a new one. Silent Hill games are just too classic to get rid of anyways.

But I also like being able to select different characters also. Not everyone that fights zombies has to be a highly trained speacial forces member. What about the average joe who has to fight? So, eh... I just like Outbreak and I intend to grab file #2 also when it goes down in price.

i know...im so ashamed , but I was going thru tough times(financially) and I figured this was going to be one of the best RE ever, so at the time, the trade seemed very reasonable....but then I played it... :puke:

i should have waited a couple of weeks and saved up and bought it [RE] at full price, instead of trading those grrrrreat games[SH]...just metioning them makes want to play them again....dammit! :x

I don't have a Gamecube and while I'm waiting for RE4 to hit PS2 I was just wondering... are there any zombies in RE4? I've read positive reviews and seen tons of screenshots but all of them showed facepainted monks or big mutated monsters... no masses of slow moving zombies though.

Sadly, the zombies are gone in RE4. Ganados, villagers infected with the Las Plagas parasite have replaced them. Maybe zombies will return in RE5, but I have to say that the scariest RE is definitely REmake, those crimson heads are terrifying!

i would say res2 as well although i have been scared at points in mostgames you know res evil 2 had the most wal down a hallway expecting nuthing smash bunch of arms thrugh a boarded up window ahhh walking on the balcony at the policew staion omfg tyrant grabs the rail throws him self up run, little later in a roo smash tyrant junps threw a wall. basicly the parts that get me are the unexpected encounters keeps you on your toes and makes it more fun who wants it to be predictable plus using the machine gun to completely obliterate that blob on the train tons o fun :)

Yep, I think Resi 2 is scary ass shit, Outbreak is scary, especially on the Outbreak level at the Staff Room, man they just keep on coming.

I would just prefer a RE game where there ain't no mutant things, the furthest they could have gone was with zombie dogs, I would just like a game that is like the movies, they start out with a few zombies, then the horde increases, so you have to kill more, I'm liking what I see with City of the Dead too.

I would have to say RE2 is my favourite very closely followed by Code Veronica. I just love the Zombies in the prison at the beginning of CV. They are pretty easy to kill but what the heck, it's fun.
