Ok, just watched Fox. Here i Oz, so whats up with you Yanks? Why rely on a humble, yet well-hung, Aussie for all ya goss?
Anyway, Mr. Rhames was on. Talking about Kojak. Now, for those thinking he might be in Dawn 2 (and i am one), well, he wont.
Kojak was suppposed to be 3-6 telemovies. Now its a full season. He has another project, then off to MI3 in July. In the I/V, Vhing sounded off nearly 1/2 a dozen upcoming projects - none of them Dawn.
And, no mention of Dawn at all in the I/V
So, IF, and if mean IF, IF, IF, Dawn 2 gets made, I will say 'ol Rhames aint in it.

Perhaps none of the old cast will be it. After watching the gloomy ending in the first movie, that was one of the most likely scenarios.

Yeah, that was kind of easy to guess if you actually watched the end of the movie as Bad Zombie Night said. I hope he takes the idea from Romero and have no returning characters.
And movies need to do this more often so only the cool people who decide to stay during credits get a special treat. Let all the losers who just jump up and leave miss the cool extras.

Why? Because Tom is a glamour shot whore... LOL, sorry Tom but half your recent movies sucked. Last Samurai and Minority where good - pretty good, but not great. I just hope that Tom remains a producer and not an actor in the up coming War of the worlds. I haven't looked for fear that he may just be in the movie, as an actor... if he is, expect a lot of glamour shots and what not of Tom...

Well that just threw my "Need to See" List all out of joint... guess The new Batman is going to have to really take up the slack for this hole in my Movies to watch list. Thats sucks... Tom and Steve must be stopped... Steve is awesome, but Tom has issues...

I just dont know what to think. I am all for new characters for Dawn 2 (say, the group that found Andy's tape), but i was kind of looking forward to some continuation. I thought it would be pretty cool if the survivors of Dawn 04 were in a sequel, as it would further seperate the movie from the trilogy.
Anyway, time will tell if he damn thing ever gets made.
But, yeah, MI3 - God, does the world need it?

Ving Rhames is an over actor anyway.he was all right in dawn but his other work is over rated.I'll always know Ving as the man that got sweet love made to him by the gimp in pulp ficton. Also Ving needs to stick with "I'm the big bald man with the gun and everyone kisses my black ass"movies. He is not cut out for real acting such as zombie movies.Oh,yeah!M.I.3????Thats the flick with tom and ving soaping each others bottoms up after they stop rick james ghost from taking over the world.right??? :loon:

Notice that he (Rhames) never got to find his brother. I know it was assumed that he was dead, but it was never really confirmed. Could be a possible alternate direction to take the sequel in. His brother might be looking for him along with a small rogue military group. Just a thought.

NO CONTINUATIONS PLEASE!!! I'm thrilled to hear the Vhing will not be in the next movie. It's nothing against him, I think he was fine in the remake. The style of the original series was that each chapter was a different story about the same world. I'd rather see them continue with that format rather than making this an "Adventures of Anna & Cop" thing. There's plenty they could do without heading in that direction.

Well if you are going to continue in the spirit of the Romero films and not the story then a strong central black male would be needed. Who would you choose?

Samual L Jackson,Wesley Snipes.Would be good.
I would prefer someone unheard of. I think thats what made the Romero trilogy special, cos you didn't know who was gonna live or die. Samuel or Wesley would both be cool, but i think too much of the focus would be on them.
I'd pick the big black dude from Demons or Demons 2!

All new characters in a different situation is definately the way to go. There won't be any comparisons to the original film then and all the naysayers against running zombies won't be able to complain. Thank you Vhing. Without him, not much point in bringing back any others from the cast.

I still think the best way to go is to continue on from the point of view of the group of survivors who found Andy's lost tape.
That would be quite a good idea corgi, but then people would probably start making Blair Witch and Cannibal Holocaust comparisons. Still i think it might be the best way to go, unless they started with a totally new and unrelated story.

I think that the new Dawn of the Dead wasn't even a remake. It sucked ass basically. The only reason anyone liked it is because at the time there weren't shit for zombie movies coming out and this one was a remake of a classic. It had potential for sure but since most of us here if not all have seen the original we know they butchered it. I mean seriously, a zombie baby. Stupid. I am glad Ving Rhames isn't in it, well I was glad for a second that Ving wasn't in it. Then I realized he sucks and is in the cast of Mission Impossible 3. The new Dawn of the Dead sucked and so do fast zombies and there super human running/jumping abilities.

I disagree really, I guess I am overstepping if I say it toally sucked ass but I think the only thing that was good about it was the stuff they took from DOTD78. I really wanted to see it and I totally gave it a chance too. But after I watched it a few more times the euphoria wore off, I was happy as hell to see a zombie film in the theaters at first. When I actually looked at it I realized that there were so many things wrong with it. I think I was just saying it was good because I wanted it to be. Some people may like it but I think it was crap. Just my opinion.

04-23-2005, 11:15 AM
Well, i do respect your opinion, but i think dawn04 is a good stand-alone flick.
It certainly has its shortcomings, but so do GAR's flicks.
What i especially liked about it was the scenes of chaos at the start, the relationship between Kenneth & Andy and the big set pieces.
What i didnt like was the running zombies (but, eh, i can handle it), the seemingly rushed last 1/3 of the film, and the lack of global newscasts in the actual movie. I think if some of the dvd features were incorporated into the flick (but a bit more professionally done, mind you) it would have added a further dimension of gloom, like the broadcasts did in the original.
I wont even mention the lack of chomping scenes, cause, lets get real, we didnt really expect to see any in this day and age.
Character devel was certainly lacking, but i still think Dawn04 was enough of a quality zombie thrill ride to justify a ticket price, and more than justify a dvd purchase.
I actually find it more entertaining than Day.
But, and i must qualify this, thats probably because i have seen day a million times, and have read the original script, and am forever saddened that original script didnt get filmed.
But, in now way is any movie as good as GAR's Dawn. With all its faults and very dated imagery, GAR's Dawn cannot be beaten.
Hopefully, Land is even better!
Ok I'm a little lost here, but bare with me I am new. So there is going to be a sequel to the 2004 Dawn of the Dead?
I think DOTD '04 was an awesome movie. They had fresh actors who aren't all mainstream. Personally if they has a star like George Clooney or Brad Pitt I don't think I would have seen the movie.
Yes is you want to overanalyze the movie there were mistakes but what do you expect? The guy is no George Romero. He did not try to copy the classic but instead made his own version.
Now a days it's hard to find a good horror and I must say this movie was Damn Good.
I analyzed the movie and I also had my husband bitching in the background how no human can run that fast (in the end) and how the zombie baby was stupid.

I agree with that Dawn 04 was good but not great.
The begining was awsome showing the zombies taking over the city, people running screaming, the gas station blow up, the girl fighting for her life on the bus, that was very good.
I thought the middle of the movie was boring, just chatter, the end of the movie was good.
This movie was a good thing for George Romero, it opened up the zombie market and someone in hollywood wanted Romero to make one.
So what's up with the topic, are they going to make a sequel or what? I guess referring to 2 because why would you guys be commenting on Vhing. Info?Link?

Ok I was reading the information on about what this movie will be about and found out that a "Space Virus" infected a russian man, then he spread it to others at a PA hospital.
This is a totally different story then what romero has presented, there is no official story why everyone turns to zombies. This is ruin the Romero Series.
Below is a quote from one of the producers of the film:
"As far as I know, the production company is working night and day to get this film out. I don't know if it'll be theatrical or direct-to-DVD, but I do know the computer effects rock! If you're talking about the original Day, yeah, the effects kick butt. Way better. They compare to the remake Day also, some are leagues better. That was one of the films I was told to watch I had to beat that. Patience, my friend. Your wait will be worthwhile"
They claim the early release of the trailer was something quickly put together and that the movie will be worth seeing. Problem as you all know, there is no site or any info when the movie will be released.

Meli - Your last posts are referring to DAY OF THE DEAD: CONTAGIUM" - which i discussed on these boards. It is not a sequel to Dawn04, but a rip-off of Day & Romero's trilogy. It seems to have died a bit, and no one is really sure what the hell is going on with it. At least i dont! hahaha.
I started this thread because there WAS talk of a direct sequel to Dawn04. However, that was in October, and all has been quiet since. Personally, i think unless they act quickly, it wont get made. The world will have moved on. As in the past, horror is a very fickle cycle. It can die virtually over night. And, that goes double for zombie movies. You can get quality stuff like 28 days later, Dawn04 and hopefully Land, but then you start to get crap like House of the dead, Contagium and (going back further) Return of the living dead pt 2), and you know the rest are straight to dvd/video. The shit flicks destroy the genre.
Also, Rhames has about 1/2 a dozen projects lined up, and none of them included a 2nd Dawn. I know, as i saw the i/v myself.
From what i read at the time Dawn04 was made, Rhames and Sarah Polley signed on for a sequel if one was to be made. Assuming they DO want him in it, and assuming HE wants to do it, the earliest they could begin would not be until next year. I have heard absolutely zip about any script being written, or started to be written, or any updated word from Snyder.
I would like a sequel. I thought Snyder did well for his 1st major film, and i thought the producers and production staff had their hearts in the right place in not totally making an abortion of GAR's original. Though, it was a completley different flick and really had bugger all to do with Dawn78.

. I thought it would be pretty cool if the survivors of Dawn 04 were in a sequel, as it would further seperate the movie from the trilogy.
How about a sequel from the point of view of Jake Webers character, last seen standing on the dock as they sailed away. First 15 minutes is him avoiding being et by the zombies, then his change into a zombie himself, and stalking other survivors?
Kemper

I think there should be a zombie in every shot that seems to be overseeing everything. It foreshadows something ominous and it should be played by Romero. It would set up a sequal atleast.

As I've said before, word around the campfire was that Universal didn't give Land Of The Dead any advertising because they were afraid it would compete with their projected Dawn sequel. Now that it looks like that's a long way off, their attitude is even more unforgivable.

Wow, my old thread dug up! Cool.
But, lets face it. After the debacle that Day will be, i am sure Rhames does not ever want to hear the word "zombie" again.

Hah, blame the Zombie Film Reference thread for digging this up! I thought I remembered talk about this back when I started, and then everything fell into place for Land/Contagium and the "official" Day of the Dead remake. Sooo, any chance this could be made, or has the relatively poor performance of zombie/ish films lately likely killed chances it will ever be made?

Well, it would appear that Zach Snyder won't be touching any Dawn sequel - since he's already got his own zombie movie on the way (Army Of The Dead). To be honest, I was doubtful that there'd ever be a followup way back when I watched the 2004 flick.

Too much time has passed, I think, for any real follow up to start anytime soon. They might make a sequel, but I'm pretty sure the original team won't be involved. Obviously the Day redue doesn't come anywhere close to counting.

I heard that there was a sequel planned with the working title of Dawn Of The Dead: Contagium...

That means any potential sequel to Zack Snyder's 2004 Dawn Of The Dead remake. The Day Of The Dead remake doesn't count since its not connected to the Dawn remake. Same way that the Dawn remake wasn't connected to Tom Savini's Night remake.

The original Dawn (78), the Dawn remake (04), and this potentially sequel to the remake.
I'm pretty sure that, after dealing with nonsense like spiderman biozombies, Ving will just hightail it out of the horror business for good. I wouldn't blame him.

Actually, my signature IS Frank Frazzeta's Death Dealer, Molly Hatchet used it for the album cover, but it's actually much older.
