Great Umberto Lenzi made 1980 Sci-fi horror action thriller from Italy/Spain/Mexico about a airplane full of passenger as radioactive toxic materials as they turn into ravenous fast moving weapon weidling blood sucking vampiric zombies that begin to infect a major city, the only way to destroy them is a bullet to the head and a reporter with his wife must flee the city of horrors.

This movie marked the birth of the fast moving zombie film before today's zombie did and it's from the maker of Cannibal Ferox, i highly recommend it. I also recommend it to anyone who enjoyed George Romero's trilogy, Dawn of the Dead ( 2004), Lifeforce, City of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead Trilogy, The stuff, Hell of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, Cannibal Apocalypse, Scanners, C.H.U.D., and The Beyond.

I saw it, at first I hated it but the more I watched it the more it grew on me. It's a fun little flick, nice n' gory.

I have Nightmare City on dvd too and it's a cheesy ass film but I like it alot. The acting isn't too good but tI like the fact that the zombies are running zombies with butcher knives. There's some decent gore in it too. Cool cheesy beer drinking movie imho. :drinking:

Nightmare City has some good qualities but the ending was groan inducing.

Yes it's cheesy, but does anyone think this movie was an inspiration to "Lifeforce", "Return of the Living Dead", " 28 Days Later" and "Dawn of the Dead" ( 04)?

Afterall this movie gave birth to the fast moving zombie movies.

Well anyone thought the recent Dawn of the Dead remake and 28 Days Later were similar to this movie? if you compare Nightmare City to those movies.

I agree the new Dawn should rather be called Nightmare City since it has more in common with that movie. Of course Nightmare City is a lot gorier.

I never really considered this a zombie movie since they're radioactive and slowly going bats**t insane. Much like Romero's The Crazies and 28 Days Later. But it's still a good little flick.

Especially like the tossing of the 'mannequin' at the end. Also I believe it has a record number of Italian boob stabbings. Makes a great drinking game.

As for Lifeforce...if memory serves me it was a novel called Space Vampires first. Dunno the publication date, though...

I heartily endorse the idea of a Nightmare City drinking game.

I may experiment with this tonight.

Two things every crappy Italian horror movie is good for.

Flesh rippin' and Boob Stabbin'...

I watched this one last night and it's a stinker. I just didn't enjoy it at all.

I liked it.. I thought it was a fun movie, except for the bad zombie makeup/acting.

I enjoyed Nightmare City as well. I'm a sucker for Italian trash zombie films.

Same here. I just love Italian zombie/splatter films. Euro-trash cinema is an important (and largely neglected) sub-genre.

I've been a fan of this movie since the 80's. It's now available as part of Anchor Bay's The Walking Dead Fright Pack.

Italian zombie flicks are BAAAAAaad! But, for some reason after a while they seem to grow on you!

Enjoyed this one a lot. Interesting to note Lenzi's comments in the interview...he wanted the infected to be less obvious at the beginning "some scars and bumps" and gradually become more grotesque as the contamination spread, saving the full disfigured faces for closer to the end, but one of the producers argued that she wanted him to copy fulci and romero zombies. His idea would've been much more effective, especially since those "zombie" masks were pretty bad.
Very fun movie with a more linear plot than most italian horror films. Lots of boobs and blood. My only other complaint is the stabbings, considering you can see that the knives and axes rarely seem to pierce anything, they kept the camera on them too long. Quicker shots and more blood would've helped.
Couple of funny things...the infected sure had lots of axes available to them, and the couple drove past the same car three times, twice it was on the side of the road with dead people in/around it, and the third time it drove past them :) Also, when they approach the preacher, they're on his contaminated side, yet she starts to talk to him and then screams when he turns away from her to face the camera and reveal his disfigured face...that she already had a clear view of :)
I didn't mind the end. It just didn't need the caption "The nightmare becomes reality"

Yeah like a wart.... I have this and liked it! I'm trying to find the origins of the running zombie, and with this movie I think that I'm getting closer...

Nightmare City rocks! Some of the most vicious zombies you'll ever see. Okay, the ending was a cheap trick and there are some cheap effects (the dummy falling from the ferris wheel for one) but the movie is just nonstop action. Great fun.

I must argue with those who say that Nightmare city had running zombies before 28 days and Dawn '04, Quite a few movies had running zombies before 28dl, but this was more a crappy attempt to speed things up and such, because the zombies seem to switch from shambling to joggers with perfect mobile skills, so I'd have to say, 28 days later was indeed the first to have 'running zombies'.

Oh, and the actual movie? Grade-A euro trash! Loved the mannequin farris wheel scene, I never caught the car thing that EDB mentioned, gonna have to watch it again now
