So, I was looking around for an interview with Max Brooks about his book and I found one at Creature Corner. In the interview he said he sold the rights of The Zombie Survival Guide to be made into a movie and is working on a script for it as well.

The date on the interview was November of 2004, so I don't know if I'm just not hip to it or has anyone else heard about this or have any news about the progress? Is the idea of this book being made into a movie still a possibility or has it died?

I don't know, I think it would be a cool idea for a movie. Almost like a documentary type thing; seeing the Recorded Attacks on screen would be neat.

Anyone? News? Good or bad would be appreciated.

It doesn't sound like he is too hopeful:

I've sold the rights to the book and for the last couple of months I've been working on the script. It sounds more exciting than it actually is. One of the down sides of growing up in Hollywood is that you learn early on how many scripts are 'developed' and how few are actually produced. I'm thrilled they took a chance on this book, but let's wait and see how it actually pans out.

Scripts and are ideas are optioned all the time.

Thats said it could potentially be pretty funny so lets hope he can ride the wave of the current interest in zombies and get this greenlighted (if thats a word ;) ).

I read and loved Zombie Survival Guide. The pics are the funnies thing ever. The guy with a harpoon is and instant classic in my book. The best peice of advise in the whole book is taring out stairs so you can live on the top floor. Although I think the book is great I can't see them making a real movie out of it, there is no character plot at all.

What would it even be about??

I think what would be good is to make a movie like some Old school Military information Film. There need to be no real characters at all just some people demostarting the content of the books key parts.

Also as mentioned the Lawson film mentioned in the book would be a great thing to see. I wanted to do this my self for kicks and giggles but just haven't got the time for it...

Its a good read and funny too, but there are many other good urban survival books to read.

After seeing the extra features on the Dawn 04 DVD, I'm absolutely convinced that this could make for an outstanding mockumentary. The look of a documentary would alow for a low budget but the audience is built in and with the success of Shaun of the Dead, its a good bet the there would be a high return on this.

We can count on Sadogoat to keep his ear to the ground on this issue I'm sure.

That's actually a great idea, you could have the guy from "wild america" do the voicing

Hahaha. Oh man, I just had a great vision. They should do it in a monty python fashion, ie: like a documentary. I picture it being like python's "How not to be seen" only instead it'd be "how not to get devoured and reanimated".

:)

ummmm, I think this might hurt the zombie genre more than help it. Not that i wouldnt want to see this made into a movie, but watching and hour and a half of the Dawn 04 extras will loose its quality after awhile.:-(

Sounds interesting, but I don't really know how the movie would work. Oh well, I'm still hoping they'll make it, since the book was great and all.
