I don't know very much about this one - it was made by Purgatory Blues LLC and will be released May 17th by Lions Gate and thats about it. The company is currently making Frankenthug and other previous releases include Hood Copz and Vampiyaz - I see a theme in low budget urban horror/action (which is interesting although the films will have to speak for themselves) and an over use of the "z" ;)
www.purgatoryblues.com
[edit2: The comments on Vampiyaz at IMDB are worth reading:
www.imdb.com/title/tt0415348/usercomments
It might be better than that (although that doesn't sound difficult ;) ]
I stumbled across it at Amazon.com and you can preorder it there:
Amazon.com (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0007XBM16/wwwrevenantmc-20)
Anyone heard anything else on this?
[edit: It was mentioned a while back in the ATZ news:
www.allthingszombie.com/cgi-bin/archives.cgi?category=1&view=1-05#1106764833
but no extra details.
We'll wait and see.......]
I've dropped them a line and we'll see what extra info they have.

I've spoken to the writer/director Zack Brown and he gives this outline:
The synopsis is...
A young woman is captured by zombies who feast and dwell in the abandoned homes NJ and New York City. The woman fights her way to escape, but returns to save the life of her husband.
annnnnnnnnnd to add to that -essentially Zombiez is an urban horror film starring an African American and Latino cast set in an abandoned industrial mill which is about to be demolished. The Zombies in the film are not the "living dead", but they are "zombies" in the West Indie tribe sense. i.e. they were humans who were subject to a drug consisting of the puffer fish, inducing them into in a coma etc. They are somewhat brain dead mortals who are easily manipulated by a Voodoo Doctor played by Jakeem Sellers. The Voodoo Doctor has the "zombies" hunt down human flesh for sacrificial purposes. I guess you could say its SERPENT AND THE RAINBOW meets TEXAS CHAINSAW meets BOOTY CALL. :) ok, it's nothing like BOOTY CALL and certainly not a classic like those other two films. :) buuuuuuuut it is a traditional horror in the sense it stars a protagonist who is chased by flesh eating humans through various obstacles with an "urban" twist.
Which sounds interesting but the proof is in the pudding.

This sounds like it could be hilarious. I'm in. :) We need a good voodoo-y zombie movie as of late.

If the reviews for Vampiyaz are any indication what we can expect from this flick, then I say it's best you hold on to wallet. Hey, what were you hoping for? It's a straight to video production, so don't get your hopes up too high.

After reading the synopsis, it appears that this video cover is trying to mislead you about that kind of Zombie film this really is. But how many times do movie posters, and other video cover art, make an attempt to con the consumer into buying a film? :puke:

Don't forget the use of Oscar winning actors to sell a movie. :x
Like the all-star cast of this one!

I'm not too enthusiastic about this one. Probably along the same lines as "The Horrible Dr. Bones" which wasn't any good.
Wow I just watched it and damn. WHERE WERE THE DAMN ZOMBIEZ. I didn't see any. How did the chick get from the city to woods that fast? How much worse could this film be. Talking Zombies ???? Good god WHY????? :poo:

Doesn't exactly make you want to rush out and see it! :x

I've had it for about a month now and I still can't make it all the way through the movie. That's saying something coming from a Full Moon fan. I won't hate on their efforts and in all fairness I couldn't give a full review. I'll only go so far as to say that I couldn't make my way halfway through and in my opinion, it was :poo:

I'm all for indie zombie flicks and I'm all for indie horror in general but just because you can scrape the money together to make a movie...doesn't mean you always should. You may love horror, but that doesn't qualify you to make it. Hopefully the guys who made this will learn something from it and in a few years make soemthing with a real impact in horror and especially the urban community's perception of horror.

Too many "Zombie" movies out there forget about the zombies and just focus on the actors, resulting in two minutes of decent zombie footage, and 2 hours of boring character dialog to fast forward through. EDIT (I'm not against good dialog, but show me the zombies!)
Thankfully, there's a decent number of really great zombie movies out there.
I agree, I'm not a fan of talking zombies, which makes them too human.

I just watched this movie the other night, and I must say it was probably one of the absolute worst films I ever seen. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/bzn123/Smileys/disbelief.gif
Hmmmm.... Where should I begin? Where was the plot in this film? If there was one, I guess you'd have to make it up as you went along. I really don't believe the director had any clue where he wanted to take this story, or what message he wanted to get across. The acting was laughable, and totally unconvincing. It did pick up a little, as the movie went along, but by then it was too late.
Wow I just watched it and damn. WHERE WERE THE DAMN ZOMBIEZ. I didn't see any.
Well that all depends how you want to define a "Zombie," and each director has their own definition. I must say though, I don't really think they knew themselves. Were they homeless cannibals, who used knives? Or were they all part of some kind of gang/cult, who just liked to eat people every now and then? It all comes back to the clueless film makers, and their inability to establish any kind of a plot.
The only thing about this film, that prevents me from including as one of the 5 five worst (possibly "the" worst) films I ever seen, were the filming shots, and camera work. If anyone paid attention long enough, it was quite surprisingly good. It's hard to believe the director was solely responsible, but they must of taken some notes from George Romero, and his filming techniques. They used multiple shots from different angles, and distances, while incorporating a variety of methods. That's the only thing that kept me awake, and held my interest for a time. Too bad the story was so disjointed, because they could have made a really descent film. I guess you have to watched at least a few dozen low budget indie flicks, to know what I'm talking about. There is no question this film was really bad.... It just wasn't painful in my opinion.

buying zombiez was the worst way to spend $20 ever!!! i regret not reading up on it first before buying it. its not fair that the cover as well as the back has pictures of zombies on it and the freakin movie is called zombiez when there are no zombies to be found throughout the whole entire movie. Instead there were cannalbalistic gangster people. I don't get it!!!

I've had this for several months on screener and I thought it was horrible. They decided to try and be original and use the whole Haitian zombie angle instead of the Romero zombie. The film was seriously a chore to watch. I nodded off a couple times during the movie and I rarely do that.

The cover was better than the movie itself.

I agree... The makers of the film were clueless as to what Zombie are. :loon:
Maybe someone like Uwe Boll should share his insights to how Zombies should act.

You mean there was an angle that they were aiming for? I didn't even think these people had any thoughts or plans before filming. Wow, that makes them even more pathetic.

I just caught this one on netflx and I must admit that it was the worst movie I have ever seen. I usually love the low budget, poor acting movies, but this was too much. If you want watch something 10 times more exciting, than I suggest watching your table collecting dust.

Zombiez was not bad because of its low budget or bad acting, it was bad because of it pretending to be a zombie movie when it was obviously not. It's bad because it exists! I love low budget movies.... but this, this movie is not a low budget movie, its rappers running around with a camera.

IMO, the only thing that was note worthy about this movie was the camera work... I thought the camera shots, and film editing was done very well, otherwise I categorize the film as painful.

This movie is a waste of time. NO ONE SHOULD SEE IT.
Tell Blockbuster I want my 5 bucks back.
The only funny part was when the chick went into the cabin in the woods, and came back out with the dude w/ the knife. The guy swung the knife at a "zombie," and the zombie yelled "OH SNAP!" It's classic cuz it's retarded.

I just rented a film titled Zombiez, and although I wanted to shut it off within the first 10 minutes I stuck it out hoping that it might get better. No Way! It got progressively worse!! Made by Integration Entertainment and written directed and produced by ZWS it looked like a home video, but made with better quality equipment. The cover claims featuring Rap mogul Daniel "Demo" Thomas and it looks like he put off buying some bling for one day to set the crew up with professional cameras and equipment. The film would have at least been better if they used a home video camera. then we'd know not to expect much from it!
The story follows the Voodoo beliefs of "controlled" zombies using pufferfish venom. Honestly though it loks like they took Demos roadies and sprayed some blood on thier shirts. Special effects are fake and totally unbelievable and the acting is atrocious. The "Zombiez" pretend to moan and hiss, but speak like normal and are completely aware and cognizent throughout(even playing a joke on the "heroine" who wouldn't live through the first five minutes if put in a real situation). Seriously, I try to watch every zombie related, film good or bad, and follow the plots in a effort to learn more. I wanted to throw this thing out the window in the first five minutes. Two highschool kids shooting on dads video camera and using thier parents and friends for extras could have made a better film! I give it 4 Shits out of five :poo: :poo: :poo: :poo: (1 being bad, but believable and five being 2 hours of watching someone sitting on a couch pick lint out of thier navel)

Oh this again
I searched the internet for just ONE good word about anything in this movie. But alas, no. Reviews, messageboards, and even a heaping helping of complaints from my friend who accidentally rented the thing.
This one goes down with House of the dead and Van hellsing, as a movie so bad, I'll need to see it to believe it (I guess HOTD wasnt all that bad.)
But dont worry man, there are still good movies out there.

We already have a Zombiez thread, so I going merge the two...
