Well, i heard that a pack of japanese zombie movies just came out in the UK with Wild Zero and Junk. I actually went to my local suncoast a while back and ordered Junk, and i waited a year. The damn thing never came so they gave me my money back, but I still want to see it, and Wild Zero is something i've wanted to see too. Does anybody know if this pack is coming overseas to the US? I want to get it...

I've ordered that double pack and it should be winging its way to me as we speak.
Have you checked to see if Play will ship overseas?
www.play.com/play247.asp?page=title&r=R2&title=555430&p=57&g=72
I know the dollar sucks and all at the moment and it may be cheaper to order both but..... You could also drop Amazon a line and hassle them about it.

I love dit too - mad and a bit confusing but they are pluses. ;)
What version have you got? I thought the extras in the Special Edition but some of them were a bit weak. I'd have loved it if they'd sneaked Down to Hell on there.

Ah thats cool - I ordered mine from the States but was wondering what the Tartan extras were like:
www.tartanvideo.com/ht_title_template.asp?TITID=258
Are they the Versus trailers? The Special Edition has a number of trailers for other films:
http://www.media-blasters.com/titledisplay.cfm?title=Versus%20Special%20Edition&upc=631595030587&label=Tokyo%20Shock&ScrW=988&ScrH=732
Although overall there doesn't seem to be too much difference between that and the Tartan one.

Pity the Ultimate edition from eBay only ships within North America:

I've got to get Down to hell, but i don't think it has a UK release yet. Will probably get it from ebay.
I have Junk as well which i enjoyed, more of your traditional zombie flick as opposed to the high octain action in Versus.

Versus has trailers for some other films,The eye is one and about 4 or5 others.Cant wait to get feed back about this one from my friends. Its not that long ago that I wouldnt buy a subtitled film.
The Eye is bloody good in my opinion, not seen the sequel though. I have quite a few Asian flicks at home, although i don't tend to watch them when i've had a drink cos i can't keep up with the sub-titles!
Tartan are a really good company actually, you should check out their website.

I just rented this from the video store and was wondering if anyone had an opinion. The main reason behind me renting it was that it was a) Japanese (most good horror comes from Japan these days) and b) it was about zombies.
Curious to know if anyone has seen it. I will watch it tomorrow and let everyone know what I think.

One question - why are Japanses zombies blue?
This site mentions it:
with tons of zombies in the classic blue-faced Dawn Of The Dead style

Does anyone know if there is a deal like this in the states?
I think it was just coincidence that Arts Magic:
www.artsmagic.co.uk (http://www.artsmagic.co.uk)
distributed them both an so they bundled them together,
I don't think the distribution deal would let them sell in the States (and last time I checked it wasn't on sale in Amazon.co.uk).
It is weird though:
Wild Zero - £14.99
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=114639 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=114639)
Junk - £14.99:
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=R2&title=112418 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=srmr&page=title&r=R2&title=112418)
The Collection (basically the above two boxes in a cardboard box) - £12.99
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=555430 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=555430)
Weird. They also don't list it on their site.
Equally odd is this triple bill:
http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=555432
Again I assume it comes from Arts Magic as they distribute the single parts but the collection is the same price as the individual parts.
[edit: Yep it is just like the Asian zombie movie collection - the DVDs in a cardboard box for the same price as any of the individual ones which makes no economic sense but I'm not complaning they are making the great films in their back catalogue into really reasonbly priced sets!!
Ooooooo I just thought I'd check as they have a whole rnage of classic Japanese movies on their books and they appear to do exactly the same thing with:
Lady Snowblood double (actually £3 cheaper than either of the two parts):
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=161671 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=161671)
And the 7 Zatoichi films:
Zatoichi The Outlaw / Zatoichi At The Fire Festival / Zatoichi In Desperation:
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=165800 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=165800)
Zatoichi Meets Yojimbo / Zatoichi's Pilgrimage / Zatoichi At The Blood Fest / Zatoichi Meets The One Armed Swordsman (as it is 4 films it is £3 more than the individual DVDs but still....):
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=185861 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=185861)
Oddly they have a triple film set with a mix including a Lone Wolf and Babycart film (all again for the price of the individual DVD):
Babycart Land Of Demons / Zatoichi's Pilgrimage / Lady Snowblood Love Song Of Vengeance:
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=173946 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=173946)
Babycart At The River Styx / Lady Snowblood - Blizzard From The Netherworld / Zatoichi Meets The One Armed Swordsman:
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=577505 (http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=sr&page=title&r=R2&title=577505)
But they seem aimed at a Kill Bill crowd (with yellow packing and all) and I think I'll wait for the Lone Wolf and Babycart box sets (as there are 6 on their books I assume it'll be set of 2).
As it isn't listed on their own site or Amazon I wodner if it is a special deal they are doing through Play.com.
But I'm getting off topic.]

versus would be awesome if they stuck with a theme like the opening scene. zombies fighting a samurai. samurai and zombies are the two coolest things ever!! imagine lone wolf and cub vs. the living dead. if i ever win the lotto, i am making a samurai vs. zombie movie. after that opening scene it loses its way with me. it's done well, but it just doesn't do anything for me.
wild zero and bio-zombie are something else. both of them a must see! they can stand toe to toe with the best zombie movies out there.

One for the Brits but Play have a special offer on and The Happiness of the Katakuris is one of the films with the price slashed down to £7.99:
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=promo&page=title&r=R2&title=125887
I'd been eying it up for a while but the cheapest price was from the States but this is a great price with the P&P free. It really is a completely nuts film though so have a rea of the IMDB entry before buying as it is nothing else you'll ever see:
www.imdb.com/title/tt0304262/
---------------
They also have Versus at the same price (its as good as the MediaBlasters US release):
www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=promo&page=title&r=R2&title=120670
if you haven't bought it before now is the time to invest!!!
And dig around as there is tonnes of other great Asian films - loads more by Miike as well as my old favourites Tetsuo and Battle Royale is a bargain at that price too. Loads more films by Miike, Dark Water, a couple of Ring films, both Brides With White Hair, etc. most of which are as cheap (usually much cheaper) than I've found them.
Oh and Bangkok Haunted is a Thai horror anthology with a zombie segment:

It's always worth checking out YesAsia (Global) (http://global.yesasia.com/en/) or YesAsia (U.S.) (http://us.yesasia.com)
Films such as Dark Water can be picked up for as little as $7.99 (Post & Tax Paid) and they have a wide selection. Some films are available only as Japanese releases and are more expensive, but if you choose the Hong Kong or Export version it's normally $12.99.

Yep good call - as I said here:
www.allthingszombie.com/forums/showthread.php?p=72306#post72306 (http://www.allthingszombie.com/forums/showthread.php?p=72306#post72306)
they have some great shipping and tax goodies for we Brits (although you do have to spend a minimum of $39 I haven't found that to be a problem - quite the opposite ;) ). And they do have some good deals - their popcorn one really cuts the price of DVDs.
[edit: That said the Play.com price for Versus is still cheaper than YesAsia ;) However, they do have difficult to get version of things like the Ultimate Versus and the prequel Down to Hell (not sure if the latter is just Japanese - I've been meaning to ask):
Ultimate Versus - Yes Asia (US) (http://us.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?FZSXW3R6+http://us.yesasia.com/en/prdTransfer.aspx/pid-1003249148/)
Ultimate Versus - Yes Asia (Global) (http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?FZSXW3R6+http://global.yesasia.com/en/prdTransfer.aspx/pid-1003249148/)
Down to Hell - Yes Asia (US) (http://us.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?FZSXW3R6+http://us.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003835646/)
Down to Hell - Yes Asia (Global) (http://global.yesasia.com/assocred.asp?FZSXW3R6+http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/pid-1003835646/)
which are usually available via eBay or specialist dealers - I saw it on sale for £60+ so the £30 they charge there is actually OK in comparison]

Just stumbled across this one: "Zombieichi, the blind dead swordsman" not its actual name but one that made me laugh. The story revolves around zombies, mad scientists, ninjas, etc. and throws in nudity and bad special effects. What more do you want? Well a release with English subtitles would be handy!!

I don't know if I am the only one but I think that Wildzero sucked and I would never recommend it to anyone.
I would recommend Japanese zombie movies in this order.
1. Stacy (because the story was so original)
2. Versus (could of been number 1 because the movie kicks ass!)
3. Junk (Although last still very entertaining)
Biozombie would be number 4 on the list however IT IS NOT JAPANESE!... it is from Hong Kong, they are speaking Cantonese and I know that some people don't realize that. However Biozombie is a good Asian zombie movie.

I'm with Pain. I hate dubbing. The only time I'll tolerate dubbing is on Kung Fu flicks and European horror from the 60's, 70's and 80's. I prefer subtitles. I can actually do two things at once, watch and read, so I have no problems with subtitles. I fully understand that some people don't have the intelligence, coordination, maturity, patience or attention span for subtitles so I suppose dubbing is good for what it is. :)

He's the king of Japanese splatter films.

Your a bad man TBD
But you have a point. I personally find subtitles distracting to watch. Any emotion in the characters voices gets totally lost, however good the dubbing is.
If dubbing brings the movie to a wider audience then i suppose that can be considered a good thing. It's just a shame that the true quality (or lack of) will be lost upon viewing.
