Blockbuster Online also has this available, but it has a very long wait, so it's in my queue and I'll get it eventually.

I really needed to think a bit before I wrote my thoughts on this film. I guess the main point is whether or not I would recommend buying this movie, and I would answer unequivocally "yes" to anyone who is a member of this site (or otherwise a zombiephile). However, for other people, that would depend on their appreciation of indie films.

"Dead Life" is by no means a perfect movie, and did have one problem that I'll discuss below, but it certainly was very entertaining and kept my interest throughout. I watched "City of the Living Dead" last weekend and thought Dead Life was clearly a better film. Not because the acting, effects or editing were better (which they weren't), but because Dead Life had a more coherent storyline and was a more sincere movie.

Although Dead Life looked and sounded exactly like an indie film made on a small budget, I'm extremely impressed what they were able to do in this film considering their lack of experience, and I think that most people in Schotten's situation could not have come close to what was achieved here. Everyone cites "Night of the Living Dead" (one of my all time favorites) as an example of what can be acheived with a small budget. However, by the time Romero made the film, he already had years of experience making commercials.

Now for specifics. The only problem I really had with this film is that the zombies often exhibited a spasmodic shaking, which may make sense if I understood the reasoning behind it (I need to finish watching the interviews, so maybe the behavior was explained). One great attribute of the movie was the musictrack, which was hard rocking and thoroughly enjoyable. Reminded me of God Smack, although my knowledge of modern music is limited as I'm mostly stuck in the '70s (e.g., Zeppelin, Sabbath, BOC, Rush, etc.). Another great feature of Dead Life was the novel and interesting gore - I don't want to spoil anything for those who haven't seen the film, but I will mention that certain zombies chose some unique areas for biting into their victims.

I hope that everyone on this site buys a copy of Dead Life so that Schotten FilmWorks has the cash for their next project. I'm really, really looking forward to "Sabbath" next year!

Thanks mark :) It makes me feel great when someone felt like they got their moneys worth.
The Sabbath script is action from start to end. With music from another great stompcore band called "Corpse Forrest" It's gonna be 90 min of DEMONS ZOMBIES AND DEATH METAL!

I just watched my copy of Dead Life and have to echo ZM's comments. Probably one of the best indy zombie movies I've seen.

I forgot to add a "thanks" for putting shots of my hometown in the film - its great to see the Terminal Tower in a zombie movie! Too bad you didn't have any shots of zombies roaming the east side :)

Did anyone else have a problem with the sound? I don't have surround sound but I had to watch the captioning religiously to get the story.

I had no problems with the sound whatsoever, it played fine in both my PC and my DVD player.

Thats an interesting thing. I authored the DVD for BD films and didn't author this disk with captions. I'm not quite sure how you could have been watching them. Is anyone else getting captions?
