View Full Version : Anybody intrested in starting a online Zombie rpg?

I know I already made a thread about this, but I thought I start it off with a new one to get people's attention. Alright well since I have no luck in finding a rpg that has active members and has enough people to play plus be simple and not have all this dice, table top, rpg book rules crap that I have no clue about. As I said I'm not a serious rpger that is into all that I mostly go for the simple game with decent rules. But anyways if anyone would like to get in touch with me and start something I would be up for it. Maybe starting a yahoo group? There are tons of zombie yahoo groups but a lot of them aren't that active. Well anyways I think we should try to do something for those at atz who like to rpg.

Well I would play it in Romero's universe you know the basic rules of killing, surviving, living, etc.
Rules well they would go along something like this.
RULES:
1. No person under the age of 17 (only if you have parents consent)
2. Serious, Good, Consistent players only
3. Made-up's only. Characters from TV, movies, aren't allowed
4. If sex, obscene language, drugs, and horrific violence offend you don't join. (And if you have those in a thread or post please post a warning and only do it if its neccessary)
5. No offending other players
6. No controlling other players' characters without permission
7. No killing of players' characters without their consent
8. No spamming. If you know a site or group that you think members would be
really interested in - put it in the Links; Keeps the board clear
9. If you are going on holiday or going to being going away for a while please inform us before leaving
10. Must post at least twice a week or whenever you can. If you are going to make a OCC (Out of character post) Please put the following on the the post OCC try to refrain from doing that while rping but if you do please do it please do it in moderation. If you want to make a OCC thread you can make sure its labeled OCC-whenever topic you have.
11. Break one of the rules and you shall recieve a strike. If you retain so many strikes and have not shown you are willing to coperate and play as a team member you are out.
Just the basics I think they are decent

I would be willing to try this out. Perhaps, as a request for this has been made in the past, you could post a poll on the suggestions forum. If enough people state they would be willing to play, perhaps an additional thread could be made. Now, a long time back, there was an RPG thread on ATZ. It was closed down due to a lack of interest.
On a side, I think this will also aid budding authors and such in a way. There could be multiple storylines with multiple game masters. Hmmm. You might also want to do a preparation thread for each story so as not to fill the actual RPG with character stats and such.
I have more ideas that might aid you, but I really feel you should start a poll and ask, maybe even beg, Ded Kev, to begin a thread.

Are we going to be doing this on the ATZ forums, or on Yahoo?

Yeah, we had a forum for it previously.. I think you'd need one again. The reason the other one failed was because it proved to be difficult (at best) to indicate where zombies and players were during the first encounter.
I tried doing it like this: "I fire my shotgun into the nearest zombie." Unfortunately, it wasn't enough... Thad (the GM) had to draw little floorplans made of smileys. :)
THEN I had to say, "ok, the zombie that's right next to me. I'm gonna' hit it, but I'm going to keep moving towards the door, while checking those other two zombies to see if they lunge or anything.."
It was also difficult to ensure that folks were all getting to do stuff during their round. It kept tuning into two people playing off of each other every few hours, and then everyone else just kinda' showing up at the end of the day going.. "uhh.. what are we doing now? Why did we leave the store before talking to so-and-so?"
Basically, I suggest a quick test run.. everyone just play themselves, with common weapons, and a GM just kinda' throws some stuff at them to see how everything works.
Don't create a new forum until ya'll do that, and see if it's worth trying to do.
Just my :2cents:

I was thinking doing it on Yahoo before we start doing it on the forums I mean hell if we can that be great. But yes I would think we do a test run first and see how it goes. As for GM hmm don't know I could like be an advisor or second hand but I don't have the experience experience to be a GM. Well I don't know I could since it wouldn't be any table top crap and all that stuff. But if there is anyone intrested in that position give me a hollar I would appericate it.

What kind of poll? Just a poll to see if people are willing to be invovled and want to participate. You have a lot of good ideas please pm with more if you have any other suggestions.
Regarding rules to writing sex in rpg don't know why I put that in there but I've read other deactivated zombie rpgs that have this in there and didn't know if I should include it or not. So I thought I'd add it in there if its necessary and the writing should just be decent and not anything lewd and crass. But I'd rather you write scenes like the scene in the original "Dawn Of The Dead" with Fran and Flyboy or similar to that in the Walking Dead comics. I'd rather have you talk/write about sexual situation that the characters are in rather than the act itself. But if you do write the act itself it should be just quick and to the point without being over elaborate. I should of put this in rules as well but didn’t think about it until now. Just write something that you know George would of done and with taste. Hell maybe take that rule out completely because some people are bound to abuse it and maybe the fourms may not allow such writing. If it was a yahoo thing than I guess we could govern ourselves but I guess all that stuff will wait until later. These are just sample rules and aren't the finalized thing.

Well then, I suppose all that is left to do is to start a yahoo group. I am not certain of how this would work. I suppose maps could be posted on the yahoo group and the gamemaster would then tell the players what is happening in the different areas of the map. If this forum is ever used, maps could be posted on the site somehow, maybe. Or, the gamemaster could be very descriptive and skip displaying the maps altogether. The game would have to be turn-based regardless. By this, I mean each player would have to state their action and the gamemaster would have to respond to the success rate of each action. I suppose all players could choose their response and the gamemaster could respond at the end of each turn. It seems to me from my dorky middle school days of playing pen and paper games with dice, that a descriptive gamemaster worked out better than moving counters around. Sorry if this seems a chaotic rambling. I'm willing to help out to an extent if you get something started.

Wow didn't think we need all the maps unless we are going to go all out lol like I said not an expert on these type of things. Sheesh do people really need maps and all that? Man I even need an explanation on all this stuff. Well the rp I'm accostumed too is that you post your partner's action within your rp and contact them and see what would work. I was lucky enough to talk to each person and see what worked whenever I rped (did mostly superhero X-Men based). But if we are going to be elabrote we should find a GM who is good and makes things simple. I'm willing to get something started just need more discussion and see who all is intrested.

Didnt i bring this subject up last year? I think i did. It got shot down kinda quick though. Meh. Basicly mine ran like an ongoing story, less "the zombie is here" and the need for maps and such, we just wrote our Rp's script style

Here it is folks its not much but its something. We are basically going to do it free form and turned based, with basic rules (which are listed) and players should post their intended actions with the people in the scene you are in but of course get it approved by all of your members (who are participating in the scene with you) The GM will ocassionly throw some stuff in there for obstacles and help if a conflict arises out of trying to see what is the best intended action. Only than will the Gm step in but basically its a free form and turn based just keep it relastic as possible.
Hopefully we can get this going and have something more to look forward too

Alright folks come on we got enough people we just need some more, we are going to start in a few hours hopefully you kids can join up and submit a bio.
You can still join up in during the duration if its still in its during its beginning stages, but if you're busy and the story is too progessed join up anyway and wait for the next story.
If its all possible we will let you participate (in the current story) but you just have to submit a bio first.

Scratch what I said a min ago folks you can still apply during the duration of the story.
I mean it would be silly to only have a certain amount. But be sure to submit a bio first before you rp that is one requirement that we are going to enforce.
Well we think we may already go ahead and start we aren't going to be doing much with just two people and we aren't going to go that far.
