I agree. This was a big topic before the board was cleared. It's definitely worth reading at least once.

It is a MUST read for zombie fans. It has a few certain "twists and turns" that I've never seen or read about before. Definitely a must read.

It is probably the single best zombie book out there. Can't wait for the second book.

Well I must say I enjoyed the book. But it was a real let down at the end. Just sort of stopped.

Looking forward to the sequel.

Hey gang,

Nice to see that the book is still a topic on the new forum! :D

Sorry that I've been out of touch. I've been burning the midnight oil for the last month finishing up my next novel, TERMINAL. It's finished and I'm now up to chapter 7 of the sequel to THE RISING (which is called MORE THAN INFINITY in hardcover and CITY OF THE DEAD in paperback). I'm hoping to have the first draft finished by early September.

And Dead Kev will be happy to know that he gets a walk on role in the sequel.

That sounds awesome, Brian. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel. By the way, are you going to Horrorfind this August?

Cool. Its good to see the authors of our favorite books coming back to the board.

And for those of you who haven't read this.....get on it.

I've said it before, but The Rising is THE standard for zombie fiction. It is probably my favorite book right now.

Agreed. Shuffle, lurch and stagger or ferally sprint (depending upon your personal zombie speed preference) to your local bookdealer and get your bony mitts on this book, pronto!

Thanks everybody!

Hateful: Yep, I'll be there. I'll be the guy with the shaved head and the Anthrax-style goatee dashing through the crowd in a STAFF shirt. I did finally break down and give myself a reading this year, so if you're coming, you'll get to hear an excerpt from the sequel.

KMFDM: He's Alive Kev but quickly reverts to being Dead Kev again... :?

the rising is the best zombie book i have ever read, great characters, the military guys really sound like if that kind of thing ever happened that those kind of guys would be in that kind of power and the way that the zombies were possesed in a way was a very cool and very unique view on zombies. I am currently trying to get a book about a zombie infestation underway so brian can you give me some advice about how to do it and how to set it up. and i know that you probably wouldnt ever do this but the rising would probably make a good movie. but you probably shouldnt have any major movie directors (unless george romero agreed to it).

The Rising has been optioned for a film. IMO, Romero would be the wrong director though.

I agree that GAR wouldn't be the right choice. I think a younger director with a totally fresh approach to the genre may be the way to go, if not just to get the pure energy across without the possibility of falling into old routines.

ok ill give you a little bit of that but think about the "new guys" indirecting, two prime examples of what to watch out for in making this into a movie are uwe boll and paul anderson (liked resident evil a little bit but there was NO excuss for HOTD)

Pain
05-11-2005, 07:35 PM
Those 2 are a barrel of shite admittedly. But i did say younger not neccessarily new. There are plenty of good young directors out there making good if not great movies.

If Uwe Boll comes anywhere near THE RISING, I'm committing suicide.

Heh...

As for how to put a novel together, honsetly, the key is to just write a little bit every day. Even if it's only for a half an hour or so. Perseverance is how you get a book finished.

thanks for the advice brian and you wouldnt have to commit suicide if boll got the movie becuase i would take a freaking machete to his genitals and leave him in some remote place that nobody would ever find him so that he could suffer a long and agonizing death for even thinking of trying to put his greasy little money grubbing hands on the movie rights (im thinking a forest or a desert, do you guys have any other good places to put him  ) then you could get a good director and make people realize how great this book would be from watching the movie (for those who ahavent had the honor of reading the standerd of zombie novels).

Brian Keenes' "The Rising" has done for zombie novelization what Superman did for comic books.

I love the theological battle brought about by a tinkering with physics...not a surprise for those of you who are familiar with me, since...theological physics is one of my favorite side things!

Now...when's the movie?

The Rising is bar none the scariest book I have ever read. I am half way done and the reason it's taking me longer than usual is that I can't read it right before bed time or I will actually have nightmares.

I am not even kidding.:scare:

The funny thing is I started reading it about a week ago, just in time for the HLC to be turned on LOL!!!

I am not even kidding.:scare: Hey mk2, Can I ask what age bracket you're in? I'm just interested because if this book is nightmare inducing to an adult - it's gotta be good!

I accidently started reading the sequel "City Of The Dead" before realising it was the 2nd book in the series. I was already hooked so kept going. I do intend to read "The Rising" as soon as I can find it! :)

wow lots of keene newbs apparently... I don't know about most but The Rising actually is what started my unhealthy addiction.

And for you that read City before the Rising, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!! I just want you to know you ruined it. All the fun in reading the Rising was when it ended and you freak out because you don't have city right next to you to see what happened. Heh, when I read Rising City hadn't come out yet. Imagine waiting for that. I thought I was going to rip out all my hair one strand at a time.

I hate to be "that guy" but I kinda don't want to see this turned into a movie. I just have this feeling that if it were done, and Keene wasn't right there with his foot down making sure it was just as epic as the book it will turn to :poo:.

I mean with a nice seasoned crew and a healthy budget it would be AMAZING...

SPOILER AHEAD

I just started reading this. It's not bad so far. They first thing that I thought of though was this is a rip off of Evil Dead and Dead World.

Has anyone else noticed the similarities? Interesting story so far. :scare: The Junkie is hiding in the bath with the zombie lion. :loon:

I'm only on chapter 4. :eat:

OK, things are better now that I started City of the Dead.:)

I was a little skeptical when I started to read the Rising. Talking, thinking zombies kinda had me....:loon:.

But...it totally worked. What a great book. Well told story with great characters and developed very nicely. Best part about it was the emotional roller coaster ride.

Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, and all the while very scary. Anyone who loves zombies and hasn't read this, should!!

Wow, now onto City of the Dead.:scare:

Funny you should say that cause I read City Of The Dead first, not knowing that it was a sequel to The Rising:doh:? I knew something was amiss a few pages in thinking that a large chunk of pages was missing at the start of City:lol: Once I did find out about The Rising I had to wait a very long month for it:cry:
