Hey literate folk,
I'm looking at purchasing a book or two as part of a zombie binge I'm having this october. Finances are tight after a couple of big purchases so i'm only getting one or two. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to add to my collection?
(note i'm not including comics or graphic novels in this)
Here's a list of books I already own:
autumn
autumn: the city
autumn: purification
the rising
city of the dead
book of the dead
book of the dead 2: still dead
plague of the dead
monster island
the undead: zombie anthology
twilight of the dead
down the road
zombie haiku
max brooks' zombie survival guide
world war Z (somewhere, lost for now!!)
day by day armageddon
any input welcome, thanks in advance, Rufus

The Autumn books will be expensive. I've only read Autumn, it's good but slow in my opinion, tense but not scary...If you go with the Rising then you should get City of the Dead also because it's the sequel to the Rising. Good zombie books, a little different from the traditional zeds but a well told story with good action. :guns:
I might lean toward recommending Plague of the Dead and Thunder and Ashes (not listed but the sequel to Plague). Neat story with lots of action. 28 Days meets GAR, a nice blend of both types of zed. Sprinters and Shamblers... :scare:
Day by Day as well as Down the Road are both great reads. All the books that I've mentioned are high action in your face zombie fun. The M Brooks stuff is good and somewhat essential reading but I would pick that up later than sooner. :eat:
Something that isn't listed is a book called Eden, one of my first zed reads and one of my all time favorites. If you don't pick it up then put it on your short list of books to read!!
Good Luck!! :drinking:

There are so many.
I'll try to narrow it down.
I. Conventional (My favorite)
1. Return of the Living Dead by John A. Russo
http://www.johnrussosscarytreasures.com/images/products/ROTLD2nd.jpg
This is not at all like the movie.
Much more serious and dark, if your taste inclines such, give it a bite.
2. As The World Dies trilogy by Rhiannon Frater
http://www.independentauthorsguild.com/images/51iO5v-4z6L._SL500_AA240_.jpg
Zombie apocalypse. The Day after and …lesbianism.
Something new, try it out.
II. Non-fictional Academia
1. Gospel of the Living Dead by Kim Paffenroth
http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/images/x4/x21095.jpg
A absolutely great and well researched study into the prophetic apocalyptic beliefs of you, me, …and Romero.
III. Unconvintiaonl
1. The Brain Eaters by Gary Brandner

Where did, they say, film makers get ideas for pictures like 28 Days Later, The Stand, etc.? You got it. An old one. Check it out.
1. Dead Bitch Army by Andre Duza

I’ve had the pleasure to talk with Big Andre on occasion. He’s a very neurotic (in a good way) and talented author.
Book description:
Step into a world with racist teenagers, masked assassins, cannibals, a telekinetic hitman, automobiles with razor-sharp teeth, living graffiti, cartoons that walk and talk, a steroid-addicted pro-athlete, an angry black chic,… Ooookay. Need I say more?
Hope this helps.

I recommend looking into Coscom Entertainment's line-up. Vicious Versus: Zany Poetry for the undead head is a really great and different read. So many excellent ideas in that one. Though I don't have a story in it I did select the stories and they're all great and perfect for the time in between Trick-or-Treaters, Bits of the Dead. Then there's The Lifeless by Lorne Dixon, a zombie outbreak due to chemical terrorist attack. And finally my new novella Death Puppet: Revolt of the Dead, no reviews for this one as of yet as it just hit the market.
And if anyone on this board grabs a copy and wants it autographed, drop me a note and you can mail it to me, and I'll mail it back on my own dime.
Brian Keene - Dead Sea
It's an interesting Zombie book from a seafaring perspective. It's my favourite Zombie book alongside World War Z and since you've read other Brian Keene books, I'm sure you'll enjoy this one!
