Return Of The Living Dead - funny and a bit spooky
Day Of The Dead
Dawn Of The Dead
Dawn Of The Dead (2005)
Land Of The Dead - pretty good, if you can stomach zombies that have learned to use weapons. Not Romero's best.
A controversial recommendation: 28 Days Later. Not technically zombies bc they're infected humans, but whatever. A great movie.

Return of the Living Dead 2 and 3 are also really good if you like the first. I think so anyway. And of course Shaun of the Dead.

i did not like land of the dead, especially with a leader zombie kinda thing... i like it when they are all just mindless undeads...http://photosnag.com/img/3322/n09x0302vnsn/clear.gif

Yeah I didn't really like that. Although they had a smart zombie in Day of the Dead too.

Hello
I work for a company that sells movie used props and costumes, at the moment we have some great stuff from Shaun of the Dead and 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later...
I'll not be spamming this forum as I've had great fun reading some of the posts! But as a movie fan myself just thought I'd give you guys a heads up!
Thanks!!

Me too. The original is brilliant but I do think the remake improved on it quite a bit. Especially liked how they changed Barbara and I think they made Ben more likable.

I like the remake better to. Some of the best looking zombies in movies. But it is like asking if you want a fat rib eye steak, or baby back ribs to go with your ice cold beer, its all good.:drinking:

On top of what everyone else recomended, I gotta say 'Quarantine' was pretty damn good. It's sort of like 'Diary of the Dead' meets '28 Days later' for those of you who haven't seen it.
But seriously, Shaun of the Dead is by far the most entertaining - I still laugh at the pogo tennis scene

Isn't Quarantine a remake of [rec]? I could be wrong about that. I've heard great things about [rec] but haven't yet seen it.

no offence intended, but it seems almost everyone here is posting the same 4 or 5 movies again and again. There are plenty of other great zombie movies out there.
Let sleeping corpses lie(altough it's already been mentioned)
Cemetary Man
The Beyond
Zombie
City of The Living Dead
Dead-Alive(obvious)

This is the sad thing about zombie movies, after discovering the inital 6 or 7 greats then it becomes harder and harder to discover the more obscure gems.

im guessing alot of people here have seen tons and tons of zombie movies, there are 5 or 6 that are set in stone as the best in the genre so in a thread about great zombie movies its not surprising to see those same movies listed over and over and over,
I have lost count of how many zombie movies i have seen and couldnt keep track if i had 6 hands to count em out on, but if someone new to the genre asks me whats a great zombie movies to check out are , im going to say night, dawn, day, shaun of the dead, dawn 04, and dead alive every single time.
I really dont think after the first 6 or 7 its hard at all, I could probably name 20 good to great zombie movies ( if not more ), and another 20 or so really solid ones before having to even scratch the surface on some of the more iffy / questionable ones let alone the out right shit .
also since were on a zombie movie forum it could be argued that all zombie movies are "great" in their own right as zombie movies are usually considered by us zombiefiles ( real word? ) to be some of the best / most enjoyable flicks out there.

Sometimes people host zombie movies on LiveStream. Ill put up links whenever I see one, but I must warn you, a lot of them are filled with /b/tards. But it is fun watching a movie and chatting bout it in the chatbox right next to the screen :)

I tried to watch Plan 9 but just couldn't make it through. I was about 20 minutes til the end. And it'll be a while before I get around to watching those old man-controls-zombies movies.. though I do have Plague of the Zombies waiting to be watched.

Yeah definitely. I daresay [REC] is creeping onto that list as well (fck Quarantine).

I agree with all those as well. I'm suprised how all-to-often Let Sleeping Corpses Lie is left out of lists. And COTLD is my favorite Fulci zombie film.
While those are probably all the "great" ones, there's a few "really good" ones that I wanna mention..
Dead Snow
Mulberry St
They Came Back
Evil (To Kako)

Just watched Plague of Zombies, it blew away my expectations! Acting was top-notch, story was genuinely intriguing, and it unfolds at just the right pace. Nice!
I did kind of miss the flesh-eating though. :)

You missed the last 20 mins! OMG! It's the most moving cinema experience of all time.
No, it’s just so delightfully inept. But, there is no way to defend it. Whether you like it because it is so bad, or you don’t like it because it is so bad, it is still so bad.

Plague of the Zombies is decent Hammer Studios fare. It’s fun to compare it to Night of the Living Dead, which came out 2 years later. PotZ has a bad guy, a wise doctor, a romance, a happy ending, and at no time is it really scary. Night? Not so much. The difference is why Night marks such a transition in horror movies.

maybe its just me but i have a really hard time comparing haitian / voodoo zombies to the more contemorary romero style zombie.
to me they just feel totally different thematically, practically , and visually.

It really was.. I tried so hard to watch all of it, because of it's infamy. And I never turn off movies, so that's saying something for me.

I've never seen a Hammer Horror before Plague, and, honestly, I'll probably never watch another one. Not because it was bad but because I have sooo much other stuff to watch, and apparently not only is it one of Hammer's best, but it's also their only zombie flick. :-( But it's right up there with Last Man on Earth, another big influence on NOTLD, as far as I'm concerned.

I've heard a lot about Dead Snow but just can't find it to rent, I may need to check out the last 2. Was Mulberry St. the one where they turn into rats?

Haha, yes, they're like rat-people-zombies. It sounds silly, and while it probably is a little bit, the movie itself isn't silly. Very claustrophobic and tense at times. I was pretty impressed.. but, I've found that my opinion doesn't always coincide with everyone else's. :-|
I should probably also mention that They Came Back isn't really a horror movie; in fact, the "zombies" don't eat people at all. It's more a story about how society tries to cope with the dead coming back to life: where to put them, how to take care of them, how to feel about your loved one after you've already been through the grieving experience.. ect. Definitely a different take, but one worth watching I think.
Oh, I nearly forgot: you can get DVDs of Dead Snow on eBay. Not sure the authenticity, language, ect though.

So that is the one I was thinking of. Mulberry St. did a really good job. Rats are the one thing (Okay, ya got me, one of the MANY things) I'm afraid of. I don't like small things that bite, too easy for them to sneak up on you. The idea of something like this spreading by rats scares me and rings true (The Bubonic Plague, which is why Resident Evil 2 shook me up since we find out prt way through it was spread by rats. I like how the movie captured the claustrophobia of Night of the Living Dead and a bit of the paranoia of The Crazies.
Not a big fan of evilBay, but maybe Amazon or some place has it, even though I was kinda boycotting Amazon too.
They Came Back sounds cool. That's what I like about the Romero films. It's not just about blood and gore (although there's plenty), it's about how people would react. Everyone reacts differently and yet no one's really wrong, he normally gives you enough of the characters personally that you can empathize with the character, TCB sounds like that.
