"Fifty years after a world-wide zombie epidemic had begun, a small group of rebel soldiers learn that intelligent zombies have begun breeding humans for food. The soldiers plan an all-out war to rid the Earth of the flesh-eating monsters for good, as the rest of the surviving world's population struggles to survive against the zombie hordes."

I found this movie on netflix and it has some pretty bad reviews but I wanted to see if anyone on here has seen it. The concept seems interesting but that doesn't mean it's worth watching.

I was pretty unimpressed...

If ya can catch it on cable, it'd be best, because it's really not worth a buy / rental.

I just watched it the other night right after Return in Red (which, though listed by Netflix as "Zombie Horror" is NOT AT ALL). I wrote up a little synopsis. So here goes:

I can’t confirm it, but Zombie Wars seems like it was the pilot for an attempt at a syndicated TV show. It has the look, feel, sound and damn near the taste of a Xena: Warrior Princess or a Beast Master. I half expected Kevin Sorbo to jump out of a tree at any moment and toss a boulder into a zombie’s skull, yelling, “Everybody get back! Back to the caves!” With the exception of the last five minutes, the whole 80 minutes plays out like they were planning on moving forward with a weekly series. There was no huge conclusive boot stomp at the end, but rather a little tap dance that let you know there was more where that came from.

Apparently, the networks didn’t bite and, quite frankly, the zed’s don’t much either.

In Zombie Wars, we get a slightly more domesticated walking corpse than I prefer. Rather than going out willy-nilly and just looking for humans to consume like a pack of rotting hyena, the undead have begun farming humans for food. Somehow able to contain their bloodlust, the zombies have established a small community with buildings, mores and a leader. Here, they breed humans (particularly hot, Aryan nubiles) in what looks like a Six Flags petting zoo from hell until they’re ripe and then devour them. I have to admit, the people trapped in cages are probably a lot less gamey than the heroes of our story who live off the land as nomads.

Oh yes, I nearly forgot our heroes. Appearing to be a second generation, post-Panic group of militia, the platoon of zombie slayers travel around, looking for peace and victory against the undead. Aren’t we all?

So we need a plot point for this week’s episode. Sorry, this movie. One of the militia, who refuses to wear sleeves, is captured by the zombies and taken back to the farm. There’s an escape, the militia come in, there’s lots of head shots, groaning zombies refusing to bite people and athletic people looking cool with guns. But wait, how did the undead learn to farm? Turns out… I won’t spoil everything.

Part Platoon, part Land of the Dead, Zombie Wars isn’t as good as either one of them, but what do you expect with that title? It is, at the very least, a competent zombie movie. The acting is on par, the action is decent but not particularly noteworthy (they do love their head shots, though) and the editing and story are well paced. If you are jonesing for a zombie flick and have already seen the greats, you could do far worse than Zombie Wars.

Lessons Learned: Don't speak in front of zombies. They get jealous and eat you.
Allowing zombies to breed humans for food may keep you alive.
Camoflage is no good against zombies.

Rating: Two and a half headshots out of five

Thanks for the detailed review. The story sounds really cool and different from all the zombie stuff I've already seen so I'm gonna check it out even if the overall quality isn't very good. As you say I'm "jonesing for a zombie flick."

I watched it last night and was definitely entertained. The zombies actually looked pretty cool and I was impressed by the fact that they tried something a little new and different. The acting was bad at times, the CG for the machete decapitations was pretty bad, and the close up of the zombie's head while it gets shot was way overused but overall I liked it.

And, quite frankly, they use the derogatory term "Puss-head" about 103 times too many.

Another flick languishing in the Big Ole Binder of zombie DVD’s. Watched tonight.

Citizen K (he of exactly 2 posts) does a pretty fair write up.

Not a bad movie, not a really good movie. Novel idea, reasonable filming and music, and decent, if not inspiring acting. The boys are a little too cute, and the girls are a little too tough. The zombies are a bit of a let down. They gave some prominent center screen time to what looked and acted like folks from a zombie walk. That didn’t work so well.

I enjoyed it. It’s one of those that might have been pretty decent with decent budget. It’s one of the better not very good zombie movies.

Me either, I watched about 15 minutes of it a few months ago and gave up.
