View Full Version : I feel like I'm out of "hidden gems"

When I first got really into the zombie genre, I tracked down all the classics... Romero's flicks, Raimi's trilogy, the Italian flicks, Dead Alive, the Blind Dead series, the crazy Japanese stuff, all the ones I heard mentioned all the time but weren't readily available at the video rental places (it was hard enough to find them in stores).
Then, I dug through a lot of junkers to find a few I actually enjoyed... Sort of like dropping anchor and dragging a rake on the bottom to dig through the muck and find some hidden treasures. I found a few, and have a collection of pretty crappy (some unwatchable) zombie flicks to chronicle the journey.
I bought the "movie guides" and found copies of anything that they claimed to be interesting. Now, I feel like there's nothing left to watch that's any good. Everything I haven't seen that I track down and watch seems like absolute crap. Anyone run into this problem? Any suggestions on ones I may not have seen that would be worth the time?

I feel your pain. Because I find more crap than "gems" in the film medium, I've stopped just picking up a movie because it has "zombies" in it and have turned to comics and novels for my zombie "fix". Some really great stuff out there and it's fun to track down that hard to find issue...as far as recommending movies...we've probably seen the same crap...
:drinking:Good luck in your search!! :eat:

I liked VIDEO DEAD, back in the 80's, but you can't find a copy anywhere. It was silly, but the zeds looked pretty good.

Heres one I got coming from NetFlix tomorrow, I've seen it back in the 80's and I remember really liking it.
ONE DARK NIGHT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3T3b9hMMf4c) 1983 <--click for trailer
As the final act of initiation into a high school sorority, new pledge Julie Wells (Meg Tilly) must spend the night locked in a mausoleum, a crypt that happens to be the resting place of a psychic vampire who uses his telekinetic powers to reanimate the corpses in the tomb. Trapped in the sepulcher with the demonic fiend, Julie and her sisters face the most terrifying night of their lives in this classic chiller directed by Tom McLoughlin.

Have you seen The Dead Pit? I always recommend it for someone who has seen most zombie movies. I agree with you, I haven't seen a zombie movie new to me that I really liked in quite a while.:x

Have you ever seen Night of the Comet? Awesome ZFlick.
I'd say that would fall under a Hidden Gem.
Anyone else seen that here??
