View Full Version : Marley's Revenge(1989)
I doubt that anyone on here has ever seen or heard of this 1989 zombie film called Marley's Revenge but I have it on vhs and the budget for the film was around $40,000.
I know the director of it named Jet Eller who was on another zombie board that I use to be on years ago called zombiekeeper but the owner of that site decided to kill his board lol.
Anyway, Marley's Revenge is a low budget zombie flick which was shot in North Carolina.
I have to look at my vhs and see what the runtime was on it. I think it was over 80 minutes long.
The film was about 2 buddies going on a fishing trip when they come across a group of redneck drug smugglers. The rednecks take them across the lake to an island in the middle of it to kill them so that they won't go tell the cops about there drug smuggling. Well the rednecks kill the wife of a nearby voodoo priest and he summons up the dead from the island that the rednecks had killed over the years. The dead soon go after the rednecks and the 2 innocent buddies. Plus there's a 14 foot monster towards the end of it too.
The film isn't really that bad and was directed decently. The zombie makeup was pretty good though but the acting was pretty terrible.
Overall this film was wayyy better than films like Dead Life, Redneck Zombies, Zombie Lake, Oasis of the Zombies, etc....
If you ever come across this film in some pawn shop lol then I suggest you buy it.
I got my vhs copy from Jet Eller himself and he said that back in 1989 about 300 to 500 vhs tapes were made of it by the production company and sent to vid stores around the USA.
Jet Eller also directed a film in 2006 called Night Feeders.
You can find some info on Marley's Revenge on imdb.com

Imdb gives a different synopsis
Two men trying to illegally smuggle their Aunt and uncle into the country but are mistaken as drug smugglers by a small group of vigilantes. They are taken to an island where they are to be executed and buried with previously murdered drug dealers. The only problem is, the uncle is a voodoo priest and he raises the dead from their graves to get revenge for the killing of the aunt.

They are wrong then lol.....I have the movie on vhs lol. They also said there's 84 zombies in it but it's more like 30 lol.

Thanks Zombie Surfer, you took the words out of my mouth. I heard that it could be purchased through Blockbuster Video and Family Video also. Ebay has some decent deals on it, too (I hope that don't mean everybody's trying to ditch their copy).:x

Believe it or not, I don't own a copy, either. The last time I ordered copies, they charged me for them. Even when I said it was for promotion. You'd think they would give the writer/director a break...they don't! They're going to get their money, no matter what. Distributers can suck to high heaven.
RIP, the film was shot for $59,000. We had a 6 man crew and the film was shot in 18 days. We sold it at the Berlin Film Festival. Out of the five films our agent had, only Night Feeders was sold. The other films had budgets of $1,000,000-$2,000,000 (Glad I didn't direct one of those).

Well I hope I get my copy in next week.
BTW, are you planning any new projects anytime soon? I hope you make another zombie film or perhaps a slasher film.

I had a $300,000 film that was due to start shooting last summer but the recession caused my investor to pull out. It was the true story of an elderly man who fell into his rattlesnake infested pump house and broke his back. He layed among 100 rattlers for 3 days until someone found him. It's not a zombie film, but I had the interest of Barry Corbin for the lead. My luck...damned recession!!:x

Damn, $300,000....wow.....that is interesting. Amazon.com said I should be getting Night Feeders in 4 days so I hope to see it.
I still think that you should make a slasher flick. They are easy to make but you have good directorial skills and I think you could make a good one like The Town that Dreaded Sundown type of film. Have you ever seen that one from 1976 cause that is a cool ass film.
I am an associate producer on a film called Fetus which was directed by Brian Paulin who made the films Bone Sickness(on dvd from Unearthed Films), At Dawn They Sleep, and Mummy Raider. I actually had no involvement in them but I donated $1,000 to the project so my name is seen on the end credit lol. I think Fetus has a $4,000 budget on it and Bone Sickness only had a $2,000 budget on it but you can find it on dvd at Movie Gallery stores everywhere.
If you need help in money production let me know cause I like your style but I won't put in more than $1,000 into in yet lol.

That's odd that you would mention The town that dreaded sundown. I've written a script called "the Phantom of Texarkana" which is the real story of the phantom (the killer in town that dreaded sundown). He was captured actually. He was a car thief named Youell Swinney. He ended up serving life in prison for car theft (he was considered a repeat offender)...not murder. He eventually was released in 1974 and he died 1994. They couldn't exactly pin the murders on him...but he did it. His wife accompanied him on some of the murders. I don't know why the Pierce film (Town that dreaded sundown) didn't mention that the killer was captured. Guess it sold more tickets. I always thought the story was intriguing. It paralyzed the city.
Odd coincidence, RIP.
Being an "era" piece, with 1940's automobiles and clothes, the film could end up quite expensive, but it could be a tense film. The atmosphere of a town in quiet terror. Neighbors suspecting neighbors. People afraid to make eye contact with strangers. Hardware stores selling locks and guns at a much brisker pace, and worst of all...the loss of trust. The Phantom destroyed the town in more ways than murder.
My script tells the story from a 16 year old boy's point of view. He had a crush on one of the girls the phantom killed. She died the night the boy decided to tell her he liked her. Unfortunately, she was with another boy (who was killed also). It makes his search for answers easier for us (the viewer) to understand.
Sorry...off topic. I'll hush.
Hey Jet, well I got Night Feeders in the mail and watched it last night and I think you did a great job with the film.
I'll make a thread for it now in the General horror film thread section on here.
