View Full Version : The Ghost Galleon - 1974
I have the Blind Dead boxset of the undead Templar Knights zombies and the 3rd film in the series is called The Ghost Galleon and came out in 1974 by director Amando de Ossorio.
To me this is the worst film of the 4 Tombs of the Blind Dead films. The only famous actor in the Ghost Galleon is Jack Taylor who has been in such films as Pieces and Autopsy.
The Ghost Galleon has some terrible dubbing in it and the characters are so damn cheesy.
There is like maybe 1 decent kill scene in the film with a girl getting her head chopped off but the rest of them were like off screen kills or boring ones lol.
The film is only like 89 minutes long.

La Noche del terror ciego (aka Tombs of the Blind Dead) is okay and occasionally inspired. The other entries in the 'series' are insultingly cheap and poor in just about every respect.
Just watch the first film.

I really liked the first movie, strange as it is. The Blind Dead themselves are awesome and eerie. The remind me of slow moving Nazguls from Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. The weird sexual content of the movies is tortuously explained by Russel in The Book of the Dead as a metaphor for the conflict between Franco’s repressive regimen and the sexual awakening of 1970’s Spain. Whatever.
The second movie is too much like Night of the Living Dead for me, what with a siege of zombies. Still fun.
Yes, Galleon sucked, but it still has great zombies.
I haven’t seen Night of the Seagulls, it’s supposed to be the best. I guess I’m afraid it wont make up for the cost of the $64 boxset.
If the movies were only about 500 year-old Templars risen from the grave, they would be great. But, they have this hipster, 1970’s playboy and beach bunnies overlay, Euro style, complete with ridiculously loud fashions and too cool dubbed dialogue. Then, there is this chauvinistic sadistic sexual undertone that has nothing to do with the Blind Dead, although the Templars ware also satanical sexually sadists, which is what got them blind and dead. Let that be a lesson to us all. Except, it’s not as interesting as it sounds.
If you can stand Euro stuff from that period, they are pretty good (so far). Oh, and the coffin-shaped boxset is sweet.
