I'm not a huge fan of monster films but I did like the 1998 film Godzilla.

I know alot of people hated it but I rather enjoyed it and thought it had a good cast in it with Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno, Hank Azaria, etc.....

I thought that the CGI used in it was very well done and Godzilla looked great in it like the dinosaurs in Jurrassic Park.

The only other Godzilla film that I ever watched was the 1974 film Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla when I was a kid. I saw it in the theater in the late 70's with my parents when it was being replayed again in the theaters.

I've always been a fan of the original Japanese Godzilla films. The American film just did not capture that feeling that I get when I watch the Japanese versions. Not that the American version was bad, but it just did not feel the same. They could have titled the film in any number of ways except Godzilla and it would have been much more accepted, IMO. In many ways, it's like the Day of the Dead remake. If that film had a different title unaffiliated with Romero and his films, then the Day remake might have had a better following.

I honestly think that the American Godzilla was very underrated by people these days. I loved the movie, and I don't understand at all why or how it got so forgotten so soon.

I acually have a new idea: Since they released remakes of both Godzilla and King Kong, shouldn't be appropriate to make a remake of King Kong vs. Godzilla?

That would be amazing I vote for Peter Jackson to direct that one as well.

What year did the original King Kong vs Godzilla come out cause I don't think I ever saw that film?

I always felt that Godzilla would destroy King Kong. I mean that Godzilla has that killer radioactive fire breathing weapon that would toast and roast King Kong alive. I would love to see Jet Jaguar fight Godzilla. That would make me happy. I would also love to see All Monsters Attack remade with modern filmmaking techniques. There have been roughly 30 Godzilla movies made by the Japanese since the original 1954 Godzilla film.

It was made in 1963. Here's a link to the movie:

I remember seeing this a long time ago, and from what I remember it was pretty good. It could make an excellent remake for sure!

Thanks! I never saw that film for some reason. I grew up as a child in the 70's and I use to watch black n white horror films at my grandparents house like "Frankenstein" or some shit but never saw that flick.:drinking:

I only bought the American version for my collection. Like RIP said, the there was a great cast, but I wasn't impressed with Godzilla at all! Not to mention his babies, that moved and acted like Raptors from Jurassic Park.

I liked that Godzilla too! A year after its release I worked at Trendmasters in St. Louis (TM made the Godzilla toys). By then everyone there was sick of the Big G, but I was like a kid in a toy store... more like a big kid in a really cool toy store. Out of the 150 or so employees I think I was the only one who liked it. They thought i was crazy.

TM also had the Battlefield Earth license and I was so excited about its release. I had read the book and really liked it. Again, everyone thought I was crazy (many had already seen most of it) and I still defended myself. I had to take it all back once I saw it.

Godzilla will still remain a favorite even with everyone calling me mad!

I hated the American film. Godzilla 1984/1985 is perfect, and I also really love Godzilla vs. Biollante.
