View Full Version : Battle Royale
This might not be a horror film technically but it's an awesome asian film from a few years back. There is a sequel to it also which I have both on dvds.
The film is about a highschool class which is drugged and sent to an island for a tv show and the last one alive gets to leave the island and win like a million dollars. Each student is given some type of weapon and then they have to kill the other students to survive.
Awesome movie!

Battle Royale is excellent. Very powerful. You're right, I'm not sure if I'de consider it a horror film, but certainly there are some very horrific elements at work in this mean-spirited production.
I never saw the sequel, but I remember reading that it was filmed on Hashima Island. Given my love for urban exploration, that is a place that I'de definitely like to visit one day before I die.

The sequel is okay but not nearly half as good as the first one.

I like it. Its a fun movie. It gets a bit dumb with the computer nerds wrecking shit but whatever. I like the 2nd flick a bit more for some reason.

One of the best films in the last 15years!!
Something just blew my mind recently. I was watching an MXC dvd, Love that show! And decided to watch the original Takashi's Castle episode that on the dvd and learn that a young Beat Takashi is Ray Ramono!!! Beat Takashi is the teacher in Battle Royale. I never recongized him in MXC since the original shows were from the mid eighties.
I thought that was pretty cool.

I never managed to finish the book, and not for my lack of trying. The Manga was fantastic and managed to work on levels that the movie didn't. I love the movie though, I think it's pretty damn awesome, despite the shitty subtitles on the copy I have.
I enjoyed what they were doing with the second film, but I hated what the Shuya character became in that film. I thought he was really pretentious and not at all justified in his reasonings.
course, I suppose that could have been the message of the movie all along. I've only ever seen it once so I'd have to go back and watch it again.
The teacher in part 2 was awesome though.

one of my favourite movies of all time and just found out yesterday my DVD copy is gone missing :x guess it's time to buy the 2 disk set
great from start to finish and part 2 is great in parts, however the director died half way through and it was finished by his son, guess thats where i wire fighting came into it
if you haven't seen it go out and watch it you will be glad you did
at least see it before there is a hollywood watered down version made starring drew barrymore and tom green
I think i am the only one who hated this movie i thought it was utter crap:poo:

I never got a chance to see the movies. I heard they weren't that great. I must say I read the novel though and WOW!!!!! The book was absolutely AMAZING! But from what I remember in the book, they weren't high school students. They were younger than that. Like early middle school kids. Like 12 and 13. Could you imagine having to kill your best friend?!?!?!!?!? Holy CRAP!!!!!!

This movie is amazing... definitely needs a proper release in the US. I enjoyed the sequel too although it's not quite as good as the first.
