I was watching last night on Monster Quest on the History channel about the New Jersey Devil.

For those of you who never heard of it.....the Jersey devil is supposedly the 13th child of a woman named Leeds and she cursed her 13th child to be a devil when it was born. It was born a normal child and then within minutes turned into a devil with wings and horse hoaves and a horse's head lol.

This dates back to the 1700's in the pine barrens of New Jersey. I personally don't believe in this tale along with the Loch Ness monster, Mothman, Big Foot, etc........their just plain silly lol.

But there have been a few horror films over the years about the Jersey devil:

The 13th Child - It came out in 2002 and stars Cliff Robertson, Lesley Anne Downs, Robert Guillaume, and Christopher Atkins. I use to have this on dvd but the film was a waste of my time lol.

Satan's Playground - came out in 2005 and was directed by Dante Tomaselli who has helmed some horrible lame horror films like Horror and Desecration. This film stars Felissa Rose(from Sleepaway Camp), Edwin Neal(from TCM '74), Ellen Sandweiss(from The Evil Dead), and Ron Millkie(from Friday the 13th - 1980). This was a lame flick too but it did has some promise in it and could have been so much better.

The Last Broadcast - came out in 1998 and was a documentry type of flick like the Blair Witch Project was with people in the woods being chased and killed by the jersey devil or someone lol. The filmmakers of this flick made the crappy film The Ghosts of Edendale.:poo::puke:

JD doesn't really do much for me either....:loon: I've never seen any of the movies that you've mentioned...Though, there was an episode of the X-Files that dealt with the Jersey Devil which, if I remember correctly, was pretty entertaining..

:drinking:How could you not believe in Big Foot??

Big Foot is actually Chewbacca who crashed landed here on earth...that's my theory anyway... It's a bunch of wookee's running around...:scare:

My husband was born in Jersey, and grew up with tales of the Devil in the Pine Barrens. I think every part of the country has their own "resident monster." I was raised in rural Oklahoma, where the legend of the Fauke Monster rules - it's kinda like Big Foot, but creepier. I've only seen the X-Files episode about the JD, no films.

I will say this: I've been in the Pine Barrens several times, and it's a pretty eerie place, especially at twilight. But I think the JD is an urban legend, nothing more.

I live in Jersey and have driven through the Barrens lots of times. I gotta admit that the whole area is damn creepy, especially after a cool rain has fallen on warm ground and you get that ground mist.

Personally I think the whole JD myth is just dumb and it's got to have one of the most stupid looking monsters I've ever heard described. But when you're out there in the middle of nowhere with no one around you and you hear something, you do have to wonder.

I've never seen The 13th Child or Satan's Playground, but I enjoyed The Last Broadcast. The end is kind of crazy (I don't want to leave spoilers). Pretty original film as it was made before Blair Witch.
