This is the best remake ever made imho. John Carpenter did an excellent job in it with a great cast and crew.

It came out in 1982 and I love this film so much. It has gore out your ass in it. I heard they are remaking this one lol which the 1982 film was a remake of The Thing from Another World lol. I have the original film too on dvd which is quite good.

This is one of my all time favorites, I even have the comic books, of course.

It's not really a remake of the 51' movie, the Thing From Another World, both movies were based on the novella "Who Goes There" by John W. Campbell Jr. though, Carpenters version is more true to the source material from what I'm to understand. It's been ages since I've seen the 51' version so I can't really say for certain and I haven't read the book...:eat:

I have the original which I bought on amazon last year pretty cheap and it's really a good movie so I see why JC liked it so much.

I should track it down. :) I have a bunch of the original classics that I hope to show the boy one day...so he knows a little of the histories of some of the greatest movies ever made...:drinking:

Did I ever tell you that I have the boxed set of the Planet of the Apes collection?? Great stuff...:eat: Even the wife enjoyed watching them....all!!

I agree, this was a great remake of a classic film.

I like John Carpenter teamed up with Kurt Russell.

The Thing and Escape From New York are two of my all-time favorite films.

Assault on Precinct 13 from 1976 is a good one to get also.:drinking:

"All I have to say is this is one of the very few remakes that I actually consider better than the original. And thats saying a lot, since I hate remakes with a passion." :)

Have you ever seen the original The Thing from Another World starring James Arness as the thing? It's not too shabby of a flick.

"I've seen them both a few times, plus read the original short story/book. The original movie is ok, but I prefer the remake because it follows the original short story/book almost to the letter."

Some remakes defy convention. Nosferatu (1979) is a remake of the classic silent movie Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror (1922). The remake adds sound, color, and is even more true to Stoker’s Dracula than the original movie. Start with something great, and make something great.

"Carpenter's film is a more faithful adaptation of the novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell, Jr., which inspired the 1951 film."

I have the '79 remake of Nosferatu on vhs starring Klaus Kinski but I didn't like that film. His teeth in it were too fake looking.
