According to Variety, Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Eddie Izzard, Jason Priestley and Vanessa Redgrave will star in the BBC's redo of The Day of the Triffids - a two-part British/Canadian co-produced TV movie set to air in the UK later this year.

Scripted by Patrick Harbinson, and based on the novel by John Wyndham, the story centers around the search for an alternative fuel supply, leading to the ominous Triffid, a crop cultivated for its fuel that seems to have a life of its own. When spectators gather worldwide for a much-anticipated solar storm, billions are left blinded and the few sighted survivors watch as society collapses into chaos. The Triffids find their way out of captivity, free to roam the planet with a fatal sting.

Heh, Jason Priestley...

Very impressive cast though, loving Brian "Look what I got! 2x4!" Cox.

Could be, the one i'm talking about was a 13 part series on the BBC. It wax about an hour per episode.

I just checked IMDB. :eat: The movie came out in 62' and the series came out in 81' and of course the new one is this year. I'm not sure if the series was ever aired in U.S.

It was never a 13 part series. Depending on where you lived, it was broadcast in 6 x 30 minute episodes or 3 x 1 hour episodes. The full running time of the whole series was around 157 minutes.

The 1981 series did air in the USA a couple of times - don't remember which network though. It was released in the US on DVD last year and you can get it at most decent DVD retailers or online stores.

Amazon and Blockbuster both carry it, if you use either of those.
