Return of the Living Dead is bullshit.
Tarman sucks.
Braiiiiins sucks.
The characters suck.
The only cool thing is the name of the virus: trixoin.

Cough, cough I agree with CD on this one, cough....damn itchy throat... I'm not a fan of the RotLD series at all. The fact that you can't kill them pisses me off and the idea that a 50 yr old corpse can dig its way out of grave drives me nuts...:x Other than that they pretty much suck...

Oh man I love Return of the Living Dead series up to the thrid one. The last two are complete shit because they just stole the franchises name and changed the whole story around. I can't believe a zombie fan wouldn't like these movies though. It is a parody of the genre and it is not to be taken seriously.

I'm acually very neutral on the ROTLD films. I love the humor and silliness of the films, but I hate the acting and the impace those movies made on non-zombie fans. Ever since that movie came out, every person in existance that isn't a big zombie fan thinks that zombies eat brains! ZOMBIES DON'T EAT BRAINS, THEY EAT FLESH! Overall, I thought the first 3 ROTLD movies were watchable, and that the 2nd one was the best of the 3 (although I absolutley hated the 2 cemetary workers and the girlfriend; they never stopped whining!).

I didn't like ROTLD when it first came out, because it opened close to the same time as Day Of The Dead. I was a Romero fan even back then and felt they were stealing from the Romero films. When I finally did watch it I really liked it. I loved how it was played for laughs. The sequels went downhill in a hurry, however.
I liked ROTLD 2 the best of the whole series. I have parts 1 through 4 on dvd but the 5th one is utter garbage.

I didn't like part 3 that much and was greatly disappointed in it when I saw it in the theater but this is another film that has grown on me. Part 4 was pretty shitty but it was wayyy better than part 5.

This is a truely terrible film, but you have to admit, it has it's great moments if you DON'T take it seriously (which I don't think you're supposed to!). I watched this last week (as I had run out of films to watch) and although it's pretty lame it's also a brilliant piss-take on the Romero living dead films. You have to look at it as a parody of Romero otherwise you will see it as one of the worst films ever made. Watch it for what it is supposed to be - a comedy! :) I LOVE the bit when the zombie say's "Braiiiaaans!" and then see more people and says "More Braiiiaaan!s" It's classic!

Maybe so Darth Joe, maybe so, I did think that ROTLD3 was way better than ROTLD2, That bully kid kind of got on my nerves. I have the VHS tape on ROTLD2, they changed the song when the zombies come out of the graves, totally ruined that scene. The original song was the same one in ROTLD.

I was a wee lad when this movie came out. I remember the radio ads with Tarman saying "Brains!" I watched the buh-jeezus outta this movie on VHS. It also helped that I was a mohawked punk back then.
Flash forward many years. I'm out at a neighboorhood pizzaria waiting for my pie, and I start flipping through a copy of Maxim. Suddenly I see an add for ROTLD released on DVD - and the release date was 2 days before! I literally ran to the counter and said - take the pie outta the oven and give it over! I hauled tail to the BestBuy and claimed my prize (along with Killer Klowns - double score!) and spent the evening killing the pie at home.
That story told - this movie is great. But you have to accept it for what it is - a comedic entry into the genre that was made in the 1980's. If you go into it expecting a Romero social commentary (an intentional one at least - you could argue that the punks and the bomb at the end are commentaries of the 1980's) or a Fulci gorefest, of course you're gonna be pissed. But we don't love the original Dawn for it's zombie make-up or CSPWDT for it's acting.

1st of all the one thing that gives away the whole movie is that what ever is reanimating that corpse is a virus, And Virus's die at extreme temperatures. The reason in the movie why the virus spread is from the smoke after insinerating the zombie. So the movie defies it's own meaning.

ROTLD was a Zombie Comedy. It was a good film but should no more be categorized with serious works then Shaun of the Dead. One must also give credit to the directors and producers for the soundtrack. The collection of bands therein was revolutionary for its time. It still angers me that the later dvd release altered the soundtrack from its original state. This truly was the punk rock zombie film and is as important to the genre as any of Mr. Romero's works. Now for parts 2,3,4,5.... not so much.

I think that ROTLD is one of 5 best zombi movies ever made and I love all parts of movie:
- the story and Trioxin 2-4-5 gas (that gas really exists but he don't turn people in zombies; it's only deadly gas...about Trioxin I wrote on my blog HororFilm Playground) as the stuff that transform people and cadavers in zombies
- music (soundtrack is on of the best there it is in film history)
- actors (specially James Caren, Don Calfa and Clue Gulager)
- special effects and make up
- tarman the legend (on of best 10 zombies of all time)
- the end of movie and nuclear strike (Resident Evil lent that part)
- script and onliners
- and we have zomibes that you can't kill and if you inflame them you only got bigger problems
Only negative thing about this masterpiece is we get skeletal zombies (but if you see that this movie is black comedy you will ignore that litle thing) and that is that
I love and second part (but this one is only good horror movie not masterpiece like first part and we have Frank and Freddy characters again)
and the part three is good on his special way.
Part 4 and 5 are crap

i actually saw rotld before i ever saw dotd or notld so the concept of running zombies yelling "brains" didn't worry me. i actually really liked it. this movie got me a little interested in zombie movies initially and then i saw dotd78 and that clinched the deal. been a zombie freak ever since. liked 2, didn't mind 3 (the chick was smmmoking) 4 was ok, more of a traditional type than the others and 5 sucked so many dog's balls that it wasn't funny.
and Tarman utterly ROCKS!!! when i first saw his first appearance in the basement, saying "BBRAAAINNNS!!!" i thought he was the most awesome thing since princess leia put on a metal bikini.

One of the first things I did when I started at uni reading chemistry was to figure out if 2,4,5-Trioxin could exist. Short answer NO. In fact the wording doesn't even make any sense. Disappointing and relieiving in equal measure.
Anyway, ROTLD is one of my very favourite films. Though I find it very difficult to describe it to people who haven't seen it. I find myself having to use the phrase 'very 80s' a lot. Which doesn't help much, because I, and most of the people I try and describe it to were only born in the late 80s :S
(also ROTLD2 I find hard to watch because the first time i saw it was when i was already drunk and was knocking back some bargain vodka and coke and was violently ill, so there's some association there.
But ROTLD3 is also excellent and has one of the strongest stories of a zombie film in that it follows one smooth arc, there's not too many acts or twists. Plus some of the sfx in the military compound are deliciously gruesome.)
