I've had a look through the other threads and couldn't see anything about this, so apologies if I've missed it, Mods, please post it to the correct place!

I've just been watching the first Evil Dead film, which is even better than I remember, but it got me to thinking...
There are lots of people on ATZ who consider Ash to be one of the best zombie killers in film history. The thing that puzzles me - and I may be opening a corpse of worms here - ;) but I don't agree that the fiends in the ED films are zombies at all, but people possessed by spirits. Am I missing something here? I wondered how other people categorize these films...

P.S. Does anyone else think that Ash looks like Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer?!

Tsk, Tsk..... You should of created a poll!

But nonetheless, I say no.
They are spirit infested demons.

To quote DarthJoe: NOT ZOMBIES!!!

Doh! Didn't think of that! In fact I don't know how to do that!

Evil Dead is definitely not a zombie movie. I have never understood why people think Ash is the best zombie killer, since he does not kill zombies?! :x (Perhaps it is because of the 3rd movie?)

As for Ash and Xander, I have never connected the two, so I guess I would have to say I do not think they look alike.

I see them as demons and not as zombies too. They're running around and talking and not trying to bite you but to take over your body and soul.

It was at the end of the film when his face was covered in blood, and it was a profile shot! So, yeah, he doesn't look that much like Xander, does he? lol

I have never compared them in a profile shot. I will have to check that out! I always thought Xander was cute in a boyish/nerdy way. Ash can be attractive, more of a rough look though. :)

Not Zombies, they are deadites(demons) possessing people... nope, not zombies at all.

Contact BZN or Darkness, they might be able to create a poll out of this. :drinking:If anyone can help ya its them...:)

yea they are definatly not zombies , the first 2 films were deadites / demons as has been said and the 3rd movie was a few deadites and skeletons.

definatly not zombies, but like you said there were quite a few who thought he was top zombie killer, guess they all in hiding now or something

for my money the most bad ass zombie killer has to be lionel cosgrove for the last 1/4 of dead alive.

even if what is animating the body is a demon or a 'deadite', if its an animated walking dead, its a zombie.

Here's a quote from Jamie Russells Book of the Dead.

"Sam Raimi's thundering gorefest is a classic but whether or not it really deserves to be billed as a zombie movie depends on how strict you want to be about your living dead ghouls. It seemed prudent to include it anyway, just because it was such an influence on Peter Jackson's Braindead."

It may not be a zombie film as such but i'm sure there would not be some zombie films that we love if it had never been.:drinking:

 With views like that you'll never be a member of the Not a Zombie Squad....

The hosts weren't dead, if the demon leaves the host, then the host goes back to normal. The demon could even allow the host to come forth while still being possessed by the deadite. Also, they didn't eat their victims and they weren't diseased...:eat:

No question about it, they have a zombie feel to them but in that case so did Regan in the Exorcist....

The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 are not zombie films. It's demonic possession.
Army of Darkness does raise and create an army of the dead though.

Okay so Deadites, not zombies, and In Marvel Zombies vs Army of Darkness the Necronomican explains to Ash that he controls the UNDEAD, not the Living DEAD.....theirs a difference I guess......not quite sure what it is tho :x

dead and loving it

Although Ash can save the world from deadites, I think he would get his ass kicked by a hoard of zombies.

Good topic, I always wanted to know why people usually include Evil Dead series in their comprehensive zombie movie lists, but not Lamberto Bava's Demons. For the record I would never mistake Demons for zombies, but I do think they helped influence the zombie/infection genres so I include both series in what I refer to as my "Zombie-ish" movie collection of over 300 dvds.

Evil Dead may not be a zombie film but i always thought of Demons as one, they kill & then the dead get up & kill.

Would Demoni (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089013/) be a zombie flick then?

That is the same film under it's original title.

I didn't read your post, sorry!

Demoni kicks ass. One of my favorite flicks of all time.
