View Full Version : Hmm, Blind Or Deaf?

If you had a choice, would you rather the zombies to be either blind or deaf? Each choice has their benefits and weaknesses.
For Example:
Deaf Zombies:
Although being deaf, they have incredible sense of sight. They can see movement from about half a mile away, and are even attracted to the slightest movement. They have their advantages too though. You wouldn't need to worry about firing guns at other zombies, or if you are listening to music, they wouldnt be able to hear, e.g if you were in a building of some sort.
Blind Zombies
Although being completely blind, they have incredible sense of sound, even silenced weapons don't make a difference. You wouldnt be able to even whisper without them realising someone is close. The advantages are that if you were on a country road, they wouldnt be able to see you, therefore itd be easier for you to get to a desired location.
Personally, i'd pick deaf. Probably because i'd rather be able to do stuff without having to be silent.

Hmm... deaf, although you would have to go into stealth all the time, wouldnt you have to even if they were blind? Except you also would have to keep out of their line of sight. You even said, see over half a mile or something. With deaf, you could also just stay still and not even be detected. Adding on to that, it would be way easier to fool and bait a deaf zombie. Such as a radio, or just plain old shouting.
And about that shooting thing about them not being able to detect it, you said slightest movement, a body hitting the ground, a flash, even an accidental movement.
Deaf zombies, hide and seek could be easier. Whispering could be countered with practised hand signals, even using noise to your advantage.

That's a tough choice.
I'd take my chances at being seen not heard. I would hate to have to be really quite all the time. That can be hard. Especially trying to look for supplies and what not.

Think about this, you set off a radio, blaring sound out, make it two. For an ear, if a sound is really loud, unless you have superman hearing like literally, even better than humanly possible by many times, you would not be able to hear someone talk. Let the zombies get closer to the sound then, move out and carry on your "mission/goal of the day." This is very effective and can be used also by someone just shouting and running. The TS did not say whether these zombies are shamblers or runners. With runners having sight, it is going to be a huge problem...

Good point.
I guess this could be something to debate until the end of time. Or until a zombie outbreak. Then you encounter one of your neighbors who is blind and another who is deaf. Then see which one is harder to get away from. They both have their advantages and disadvantages. I don't know which one outweighs the other.

some shamble, some run. depends on how long theyve been "dead".
if they were to run, itd be super hard if they had amazing sight.

Hmm... some blind, some deaf... even worse
Well, I just doubt this would be the case if the outbreak occured

I'd prefer to have blind zombies as you could confuse them by throwing objects as a diversion, plus, if you were near running water, crashing waves, etc. they would again be confused.

I would have to go with deaf zombies. All I would have to do then is stay behind their backs, make sure my shadows are out of the way, and fortify my house so no light comes out of it. At least then I can listen to my MP3 player all I want without that much of a problem.

A very tough decision. But I'm going with deaf it would let drive a fast but noisy car with less penalty, also it would make it easier to make blockades and such out of your dor with hammer and nails with no worries.
