Wickedly cool, sexy and gory animated adult cult Sci-fi/horror/fantasy anthology epic based on the popular adult comics. It's about an orb from space that is evil for it tells the viewer five stories of aliens, zombies, monsters, barbarians, babes, drugs, sex, rock and roll, sorcerery, good vs. evil, gory violence, and female warriors.
There's good animation with hot sexy nude toon chicks especially Taarna, this movie influenced "The Fifth Element" big time and is one of the most influential cult movies around.

The fourth story, B-17, is about a B-17 bomber during WWII. Most of the crew are killed and the orb, called the Loc-Nar, slams into the plane and turns the dead men into rotting zombies. They attack the survivors but... well, I can't spoil the rest! But yeah, zombies.

"It's not a 'zombie movie', Darth, but one of the stories within the movie is about Zombies." ;-)
"This is a great movie, I have it sitting on my DVD Shelf." :)

Anyone thinks this movie inspired "The Fifth Element"?
The film is basically "Akira" meets "The Dark Crystal" and "Creepshow".

"Well, considering that the production design for the film was developed by French comics creators Jean Giraud and Jean-Claude Mézières. The first of which created the original Heavy Metal Magazine, (which was called Métal Hurlant,) and also created the graphic comic/story 'Moebius', I'd say there's a pretty good chance the answer is yes." :)
"By the way, Métal Hurlant literally means "Screaming Metal." :drinking:

Who else thought Taarna is so hot for a toon chick? for me, hell yes! i always had a desire for her since i was 11 in 1993 when i taped the movie off TBS in it's so-called "Family friendly" version which still kept some of the language and some of the gore then when i was 14 in 1996 i rebought it in it's finally released on video uncut and uncensored form then started fapping off to Taarna, she's got such an impressive bod including nice tits and hair-pie.
In fact, a 32 year old friend of mine saw this movie when he was only 4 years in 1981 thanks his cousin who was 17 took him to see it in a theater. He told me it was his first time seeing knockers, hairy beavers, asses and a wang but in animation! he even told me that Taarna was his first crush as a small kid for he couldn't take his eyes off her and that she was all he could think about.

One of my all-time faves, but the sequel was such a letdown.
After you watch Heavy Metal, the recent South Park episode "Major Boobage" (Season 12, Episode 3) will make a hell of a lot more sense. :)
I've also been collecting the magazine for almost 20 years. Though I thought it was better before Eastman bought it, they have put out some remarkably good stories over the past few years.

As Captain Stern would say, "Relax.....I've got an angle.
This has been one of my favorite movies since it came out. The animation is great as are the voices by Eugene Levy and the late John Candy. This also has one of the best soundtracks ever.
As chewy said the sequel Heavy Metal 2000 is a letdown.

Does anyone know who Taarna is? she's that white haired mute warrior babe. Now she blows away Jessica Rabbit, Cheetara, Adora from She-Ra or Teegra from Fire and Ice as the hottest toon girl to grace the screen.
I bet she influenced "She-Ra: Princess of Power", same kind of 80's toon warrior chick only that She-Ra wasn't a mute or a stripper like Taarna.

B-17 is great. I wish it was longer and more of the film was like that. Great animated zombies!

"Cool Clip! Thank you!" :)
"One of my fave scenes of her. My other one is where she beats up the scum in the bar." :)
"I made a rendition of her costume one year, and got invited backstage at a Missing Persons concert. Because Dale Bozio(sp) fell in love with it and wanted to take some pictures of it. Plus she wanted to examin it closely, so she could make one for herself." :)

Heavy Metal is among my all-time favorite movies of any type.
Only Wizards comes close to Heavy Metal in my animated film favorites.

Anyone who liked this one should check out "Urotsukidoji: Legend of the Overfiend", which is a far more nastier and bloodier animated movie then this since it's japanese animated and has scenes of tentacle rape, mutilation, gore, sex and every excess around.

John Candy and Harold Ramis were hilarious in this movie.
Who thinks the film predates anime in the US including hentai and such raunchy animated gore and sex feasts like Wicked City?
