First the Brits with Shaun Of The Dead and now the Irish are taking their turn with Dead Meat - about a flesh-eating zombie outbreak caused by the infamous Mad Cow Disease that plagued the United Kingdom a couple of years ago. The trailer for this film is now online and I think it looks pretty good. I may have to give this a watch when it comes out....

I just keep my eyes open. Frankly, Jase and DeadKev should give me a job on their news page - it'd be updated a hell of alot more frequently. Infact I often can't believe how many big zombie genre events seem to get missed there regularly.

Yeah, I know I miss a lot of stuff. It's just a lack of time on my part. Between working full-time and school at night, it's rough. I just got GoGo hooked up, so she'll now be helping with the news.

Well, if you need more help down the line, I can make myself available. I've got enough experience - I used to run the largest (and the only Fox-endorsed) Aliens/Predator community site on the Internet for three years, plus did news stints on about three other community sites during the last five.

This was actually shown here last weekend and I only found out the day after. Reports were good however. Supposed to be very enjoyable. The only thing to bear in mind (which may be apparent from the trailer but I haven't watched it yet) is that it sounds more like a fun, over the top film rather than a serious apocalypse film. That's heresay though...

Well, the trailer doesn't really suggest it's a film in a 'fun' vein similar to Undead or Shaun Of The Dead. I got the impression it was a 'serious' zombie flick - although regardless of whether it is or isn't, I'll still watch it when the chance arises.

No, I don't think it was Shaun of the Dead out and out comedy but I think it was more on the over the top gore for laughs type thing. That's the impression I got anyway. I'm very much going on second hand info here.

It looks like it will be great. It looked actually scary. Zombies coming out of the bog. Christopher Walken was in a wonderful movie with a "Druid" woman back from the dead or frozen in the bog..When she awoke...Oh boy but I forgot the name of the film. Hey Dogg when is your movie going to be available? C'mon you even have one of my all time favorite characters from "Day of the Dead " in your flick.I hope you have good news for us. Maybe you can show it with this file. A Irish zombie double feature. Whats up my friend?

Well I've seen both this and Boy Eats Girl and both rate highly for me in different ways - and, yet, both will no doubt be criticised for certain things and those criticisms will be valid.
Deat Meat is a laugh, plain and simple. It's just a fun gory movie. It's very low budget and it shows but it's good fun. Don't watch it when you need some mental stimulation as you won't find it here.
Boy Eats Girl is a much more slick and polished movie and it should be, having a budget far larger than Dead Meat. The parts BEG does best are the comedy parts, and they are meant to be funny rather than just fun if you get my drift. There is one stunning gore sequence but, in general, the skill of the comedy scenes easily overshadow any 'horror' sequences. It's got a really dodgy plot point and an all too convenient end but it's a very enjoyable movie.
Certainly both movies represent Irish cinema nicely but in terms of seeing more Irish zombie movies, well, I wouldn't count on it in the near future anyway. I think with both of these films, the Irish 'industry' sees the genre as well and truly explored. Of course I disagree but there ya go.

Just finished watching it. Good movie with really good gore but the bad lighting combined with the shaky camera that constantly switched angles really gave me a headache. Great ending, though, and alot of laughs throughout. The girl on the road wearing the tiara that got "mailboxed" by the coach was excellent! I have to call him "coach" because I could barely understand a word he said. That didn't take anything away from the movie, though. Also, the zombies/infected people standing up in the field sleeping was a really unique addition while being hilarious at the same time! I think it's a good solid renter, but I probably won't be owning it anytime soon.
Am looking forward to seeing this one. May order a copy next week

Well, I'm about to turn 35 years old so I couldn't really tell you how many independent movies I've seen but I don't see where that would have a bearing on anything. I also thought the sleeping zombies were a great idea which I believe I stated, but even though it was a pretty good movie, it's just not something I wanna watch time and again.

I just bought and watched dead meat. I was really excited about getting it because it says fangoria's gorezone on the cover. But to tell you the truth the movie was a little bit slow but towards the end it got really good. And I liked all of the evil dead and day of the dead references.

My advice to you is to be extremely cautious when considering movies with the name "Fangoria" on them. Fango, though I truly love the mag, has become incestuous and watered down. Though this flick does seem to be getting better reviews than that steaming pile of :poo: they released called Skinned Deep, you can never be sure with them any more.

Shadows of the Dead is fairly recent. You can find out more about Shadows as well as a nifty flick called, Necropolis Awakened at:
Shadows of the Dead: http://www.anocproductions.com/index.html
Necropolis Awakened: http://www.hudsonpro.com/necropolis_awakened/
I enjoyed Shadows and saw quite a bit of potential in it as a graphic novel so I licensed it for my illustrated horror company. It's more of a character study/romantic horror film.

It is abit long and epic which actually impressed me more than the movie itself. This flick was made by 3 guys who damn near did everything in it. I was impressed. Plus they had a couple cool short films on the DVD. Definitely worth adding to a collection if you're into low budget fare.

low budget films are defintely honored in my collection. I thought the meat market movies were awesome (besides the gross perverted stuff as well as the horrible acting). The cool thing about the dead meat dvd is that it was the director's first movie (and he looked like he could be only 20) and on the special features they had a making of the film as well as a mini short film called the Braineater which just as good as the movie

I haven't received my copy of "Dead Meat" yet but I'm hearing really good things about it. I've heard quite a bit about "Meat Market 1 & 2" as well but I haven't gotten around to grabbing them. I rarely watch films before I purchase them so it sometimes takes me awhile to scoop them up. I'm trying to replace a massive VHS horror collection with DVD's and it's taking me quite some time and space.
This was my collection 2 weeks ago. I've already filled up the 3rd row and I've cleared the creepy frogs from the bottom and I've begun adding DVDs to those rows.

I felt the third Ginger Snaps was awful.. there were enough problems in the script by itself, but in comparison to the other two, it was just taken down so many levels it was hard to sit through. I will admit it was well shot... but they changed the mythology so much that it just didn't feel like part of the series anymore, but just another stereotypical werewolf flick. Part of what I really loved in the first two was lycanthropy being paralleled with something completely out of the blue; teenage awkwardness and drugs. They lost that completely in the third one.
Oh, and just to add my 2 cents on Dead Meat... funny concept. Funny characters. Some cool gore. Overall kinda slow and semi-unoriginal in terms of the sequence of events. I liked the use of the castles. And the short film in the special features was totally badass.

I felt it was symbolic on multiple levels, that being one of them, another being how they were obviously misfits, trying to cope with high school and their surroundings, and their inability to fit in was taken one step further by throwing werewolfism into the mix.

I agree not enough tits and ass,I think you would have to be Irish or at least spent time here to totally appreciate this film. The scene where the two men start having a conversation in the middle of a field during a zombie outbreak is typical of Irish nature when they should be making a run for it and chatting inside the vehicle.I hope to visit where this film was made and get some pics in the future.I cant seem to find the words to describe how much we enjoyed this film.

Excuse me if I am not seeing the forest for the trees, but I do not see any mention of the exciting release of the Irish zombie movie 'Dead Meat'. It was on this site I first read about this flick a ways back.Lo and behold I see at Blockbuster as a Fangoria release "Dead Meat"!!! It's the very movie. Very good better then your average Indie movie for sure. Some funny Irish comments by the Hurling (ancient Celtic field hockey still played) coach but thankfully it's not a comedy.Yes the zombie make up was eh, but the movie was pretty damn good! You will be pleasantly surprised and as for me that was a pleasant change. By the way fangoris could have spent $20 more and put some good art work on the box and reaped a greater crowd but hey...Go get it..go on.

I've been looking around for Dead Meat, I even asked a guy at Saturday Matinee (I usually never go there: ripoff), even he never heard of it. Fangoria needs to get it to more stores if they can. If I see it, I'll buy it.
The Fangoria Dead Meat preview was decent enough, though the zombie make up was questionable; kinda like Nightmare City's 'zombies'.
Nevermind. I can always order it online...

It was just okay. It had gore, it had zombies and it had rabid cows but it had no heart, the characters were lifeless (aside from that goofy coach) and the plot was paper thin.
It's fine for a rent. I purchased it and was relatively happy but Fango films always leave me wanting.
I purchased it sight-unseen (think I ordered it from my local Borders) and I have to say I was reasonably pleased with it. Yards better than say Oasis of the Zombies - in my opinion anyhow.

I rented Dead Meat, since I couldn't find it in stores. An entertaining zombie film.
DEAD MEAT REVIEW:
The story is pretty much about surviving, and we get to know a little about each character as they interact. The cast is good enough, as they play their parts in a realistic manner; the film feels like a documentary, almost like a Blair Witch Project, only with better camera work.
How are the zombies? The zombies act like zombies, they look like zombies, even though the special make up FX are bare bones. Near the end, there's about 70 zombies attacking the survivors. (Is that a spoiler? I didn't reveal what happens?)
The gore is pretty brutal, and feels life-like thanks to the documentary feel. Of course, wiping a guys head off with a shovel in one stroke isn't very life-like, but many of the gore scenes made me cringe a little.
The first half takes place during the day in a nice country setting. Nighttime, it gets so dark the only time we really see anything is when the flashlight shines on the zombies. I preferred the daytime setting. (Sleeping Corpses Lie Reference.) Also, things get a bit confusing during the last zombie battle; I found it hard to follow the action as zombies attacked from out of nowhere; since the camera doesn't reveal the setting because of the tight zoom shots.
Camera: 7/10 Some nice angles and shots, looks like it was recorded on a home video camera.
Acting: 8/10 Actors capture somewhat realistic performances, if you forget the fact the female lead forgot about her boyfriend really fast.
Story: 6/10 Run, that's about it. A little teamwork thrown in, with cows.
Gore: 7/10 There could be more of it, but what's there is pretty sick looking, even though it looks fake most of the time.
Horror: 7/10 This film kinda brought me into the experience the actors were going through.
Overall: 7/10 If you don't mind the documentary feel, you may like it.

I thought Dead Meat was great, whats even more impressive is that the Lad who directed it is only about 20, how cool is that!:)

I dont really like it. In fact ive never fnished so Im not doing it that much justice. From what I saw (about half) it was too boring. I'll watch it through though so I can give it a better judgement.

I just watched this, I liked it. I tried not to take the movie too seriously, I don't think it took it self very seriously. I wasn't splitting my sides laughing or anything, but alot of it was pretty funny. Some of the zombie kills were just ridiculous. With a zombie creeping closer the main character is struggling with the buckle on her high heeled shoe. The camera switches back and fourth between the zombie getting closer and the girl fumbling with the buckle on her shoe, really suspensful. And I'm wondering what the **** is she doing? When she finally gets it off she throws her shoe at the zombie, and the high heel sinks into it's forehead killing it. Completely ridiculous.
It was a pretty entertaining movie. Worth a rent atleast.

I liked this movie...I thought it was well done...since this thread popped up I think I'll watch it again...:eat:
I bought Dead Meat last weekend on dvd on amazon.com and just watched the dvd and was impressed with how good it was for a very low budget flick and for it being a irish zombie film.
I liked the setting of it in the irish countryside and old cottages and stuff. I thought that the direction of the film was very well done by such a young director.
I liked the gore in it and the zombie makeup was okay but not great by any means but for it being a low budget flick I thought it was very well done.
It had some funny moments especially with the guy who is the coach in it lol. I couldn't understand a word he said except the words "f.u.c.k." lol.
Overall, I enjoyed the flick and it was only 80 minutes long.:drinking:

Did anyone manage to check out this Irish zombie film? I went into it with zero expectations, and after the opening credits, I figured the movie to be a low budget nightmare. To my surprise ... I actually really liked it. I mean ... how can you beat zombie cows? Plus, it was a nice change of pace seeing the zombies in derelict castles as opposed to abandoned cities. It's on netflix streaming now. Worth a watch.

I think I saw that one, but I watch so many. Is that the one where at the end the survivors are herded up and put into the back of trucks like cattle?

Yeah ... I really dug the ending. It made me think that the cure was worse than the disease.
