View Full Version : Whose your fave horror author
I personally read alot of books by John Saul and Bentley Little.
I guess Bentley Little would be my fave horror author.
I have like 7 or 8 books by him and my fave is probably either Death Instinct or The Resort.
I have probably like 6 books of John Saul and my fave of his is either Creature or Black Lightning.

I don't have time to read a lot of novels anymore, but I find time for James Herbert's stuff.

His earlier stuff is pretty brutal and has been widely copied over the years, check out The Rats, (the original killer rat book, it's been filmed and ripped off a million times now), The Dark. The Survivor, (made into a pretty good Australian film), predates Final Destination by about 20 years. His more recent stuff is heavier on atmosphere, but can still get pretty nasty. I think he wants to prove he can really write, not just string a lot of nasty deaths together.
He's also done stuff for kids like Fluke about a poor excuse of a father who gets reincarnated as his family's dog. My kids love the movie
You can check out his website here
http://www.james-herbert.co.uk/home.htm
There's stuff on him, his books, a forum with reader reviews, (good and bad), etc

Another one you might like is Micheal Slade. I haven't read his last couple of books, but his stuff up to Death's Door is friggin nasty and well written. Kind of a cross between a police novels and horror stories. Well worth tracking down at used bookstores, flea markets, etc

Richard Laymon, the first book i read of his was Flesh after that i was hooked. Until then i had only read Stephen King but Laymon was more gory, exciting & perverted other faves are the Beast House books.I was sad when i heard about his death, there will never be anyone like him. :drinking:

I think I have one of Slade's books but I bought it many years ago. I think it was called Ghoul but I need to make sure and find it.

After i posted here i read up a little about Richard Laymon & it said he was more popular in Europe but especially the UK, why is that? i love his style.
Actually a cool book is Evilution by Shawn Jeffrey, I was on a website forum with him a couple of years ago and he sent me his book and autographed it for me and it was great. He lives in the UK and has wrote a few books. You ought to check out his novel Evilution cause I was impressed with it and should be made into a movie.

I have a few authors that I read faithfully, but my favorite is Stephen King, followed very closely by Robert McCammon, then Michael Crichton, and Richard Laymon. I also like to read books by Dean Koontz, Douglas Preston/Lincoln Child, James Axler and David Robbins.

I have to say Stephen King, love his work, especially the Stand. I have read The Stand 7 times. John Russo and George Romero wrote a few good books to. Night of the Living Dead, and Return of the Living Dead, both in paperback. I enjoyed Max Brooks stuff to.

Yes, agreed on the above. Especially Poe. :)
My favourite though, and I have been reading his books for about 20 years, is Robert R McCammon. His best books have to be 'Swan Song', 'They Thirst' and 'Stinger'.
I also like Simon Clark. One of his most memorable has to be 'Blood Crazy', but I like the 'Vampyrrhic' series too.

Stephen King.
Closest guy who's come to at least sending a chill down my spine, and that's rare while I'm reading.

Admittedly? Few. From what I've read, pretty good stuff, but it was just a few excerpts.

I have 4 John Saul books, The Homing, Sleepwalk, Nathaniel, but my fave was Darkness. A good British writer is Shaun Hutson, check out Relics. He also wrote a book called Slugs which was made into a cheesy little horror film of the same name in 1987

I only liked Jaws by Benchley. The other 2 books I own by him weren't even close to being good imho. I do however like Bentley Little's novels though.
Can anyone recommend a good zombie novel?

I must say I'm impressed RIP.
Do you own other books other than horror? I would hope so.
That's nice though. Generally I go to houses and such and people don't have any books at all and that really blows my mind. I walk through my friends house and ask them where they keep their books at.
I guess I'm spoiled...I just assume that everyone has a house with books flowing out of the wood work.
