Are Skinheads Safer than Hippies?

This question came to me in the shower, when I was just about to dump a load a shampoo into my hair. "If the zombies came, would shaving your head make you bit safer from the grasp of the zombie?"
See, I have fairly long hair and I have decided that I might as well drop the comb and pick up a razor. If not to keep the zombies from grabbing my locks, I might as well keep it out of my face right?

What's your opinion and what would you do?

This one is especially for the ladies. Would you go G.I. Jane too?

If I saw someone being dragged by their hair, or otherwise be at a disadvantage because of it, I would. It's taken me years to grow mine the exact way that I want it, and I'm not about to cut it off unless I know for sure that I need to.

Oh well since I'm here,I'm from the Hippie-kind and since it took me 20yrs to grow my hair,I would not hesitate at all in cutting it to save my skin but would be a tragedy if I ever did:cry:

My hair is acually longer than most of the girls at my high school, and while cutting it could be safer among zombies (as well as to keep people from mistaking me as a woman anymore), I don't think I could even dare cut my hair. I've grown it myself for almost 4 years now, and I don't want to end that streak so soon! If it was a last minute measure, like killing a family member, I might trim it down a bit, but I'm sure as hell not going to shave it all and look like a male appendage! :lol:

wait until z-day. then cut it short. grease it up to make it slippery, if you can. don't shave it completely at that point because in the winter you want to keep some heat in, and in the summer you could get a sunburn that you will not be able to treat.

until then, just enjoy your style.

My hair is about 3/4 of the way down my back. If z-day came, I'd probably cut it to just above shoulder-length, to prevent getting grabbed by it. Shaving it to skinhead level has its disadvantages too - you lose a large percentage of your body heat through your head, so if you like in a temperate or cold climate and will be in an outdoors, wilderness survival scenario, it's good to have some hair. Or wear a hat, whatever. :roll:

I already keep my hair under an inch. Its not just for zombies. I've had numerous jobs working with machinery and loose clothes, long hair, or necklaces could easily kill you.

I would not hesitate to shave my head as bald as baby's bottom (actually I already did that once, after a hair-dye catastrophy) if I thought it would save my life or someone else's. However, I dont' think a completely shaven head would be good either. As others have mentioned hair keeps your head warm, and it protects against sunburn.

Meh, my hair's short already, I wouldn't hesitate to chop it down to an inch long.
So much for growing my hair out again... Long hair's harder to take care of anyway. And if it's possibly gonna get you killed, than what's the point? I won't look old fashioned, anyway.

I cut my own hair, I trim it about once a week, it's about 1/8 of an inch on the back and sides faded to 1 inch on the top. My uncle is a police officer and I spoke to several officers and they told me to keep my hair short for the academy and to find a short style I liked. It's semi Grabbable but not really. I once had the Beatles Mop... can't say I really miss it :lol:

I want to say "Yes, skinheads are safer" but that's just because I keep my head shaved to the skin pretty much all the time. I shave my head every other day.

Short hair is safer, long hair is easy to grab, gets caught on things, gets in your eyes, etc. Short hair is also more sanitary, long hair that goes unwashed for a couple weeks is not pleasant, especially when you have been sweating and crawling around in dirt. And by the way, right now, i have really curly shoulder length hair, but I would cut if off in an instant if I needed to. And if you are in a cold climate, you should know to have a hat anyway.

I'm humored by your question as I'm a former Skinhead. It's true, though I wasn't racially motivated nor was I anti-racist. Before any blowhards start running at the mouth, do a Google search on the "History of the Skinhead" and learn about the roots.

As for your question...Skinheads will surpass the hippie, and average citizen, gang banger, and so on because:

1) The Skinhead is one of the most aggressive youth cultures. Where a teen might enter into physical combat a handlefull of times throughout their youth, the Skinheads skirmishes are a weekend event, every d-mn weekend. Practice makes perfect, and many in "Boots'n'Braces are involved in martial arts or boxing clubs;

2) The close cropped hair leaves little to be grabbed by an opponents hand;

3) Most Skinheads aren't trouble makers, just rowdy brats, athletic (jocks), and if they don't follow the "road to ruin" many become soldiers, law enforcement officers, or artists (music, film, etc);

The stereo types about the Skinhead are ridiculous. As I said, look up their history. As for me, I'm a dad, and my youngest sons mom is half African half French. So "can" your ignorance before you start foaming at the mouth...and for the record...most, and I do mean MOST Skinheads and former Skinheads are armed to the hilt, with weapons they are trained, and practiced on. Lest we forget their years of experiance in close quarters combat.

So To answer this post...Skinheads "could" come out on top comparitively speaking, but realistically speaking...maybe the "hippie" is a former Seal Team member? Or maybe they were raised to hunt and grew up in a survivalist family. Maybe...?

In an outbreak, anything goes. Who you were doesn't matter, it's what you learned and how you can apply it to the current set of circumstances now dictating your life. Personally, I have come to hate violence, I don't even like to argue. I'm a law abiding, church going parent who'd rather read about Zombies rather then fight them.

AAAAAAAnd if it happened, I'd support my government, starting on the local levels, and do what needed to be done to support my community, my, county, my state, and then my country.

Lol, I actually just had to cut my locks for a zombie movie I'm producing. (I'll throw the info into shameless plugs soon). I've gone from having a fro to short spikey hair. It's about 3 inches long, and honestly, I don't think a Z could grab it. If they are close enough to be able to use my hair against me, then it would already be too late. So I disagree that a shaved head would be the best. Hair can be used to keep stuff out of your face, as well as to keep you warm and protect against sunburn. However, I don't think your long locks will do you any favors either. It's all about moderation people, lol. And Secretcog, even though I am a hippy to the bone, I'd gladly work with you if/when an outbreak happens, lol.

I don't want to take this too far off-topic, but seeing as you weren't a racist skin, why wouldn't you be anti-racist?

I ask because I'm a former SHARP and it seemed that most of the skins that I knew were either racists or anti-racists; no one really considered themselves neither of the above.

And I should watch how I word it; I'm not a "former SHARP" because I've become racist, I'm one because I don't really consider myself a skin anymore.

I know how it is. I used to be in a "Fight Club" back in the day. I mellowed out after I stopped abusing pain killers and still have quite a bit of pain delay wired into my system from it. I grew my hair out, dreaded it and then cut it again. Right now its just past my jaw. I'll trim it when the zeds come, but not shave it.

Truth be told, the Skinhead has little to do with race, unless of course your a racially motivated Skinhead. Most Skins don't care about anything other then booze, woman, more booze, music, and did I mention the booze?

I associated with ANY form of Skinhead culture. To each their own ya know?

i live in the middle of the desert and have hair 1/2 down my back. i will not cut it in a zed fest. i love it its soft and flows. it keeps me warm in winter (its not a harsh winter we dont usually get snow but i hate being cold and ware a coat most of the year) and in the summer it is like a heat-sync for my head. with a slight breeze it cools me considerably. if a zed grabs my hair i can actually pull the zed forward knocking it off balance. and from there it dosnt take long for me to draw a weapon and kill it.

I think in an outbreak the length of my hair would be the least of my problems. If they're close enough to grab your hair - you're probably in for it anyway.
