In most more powerful pistols and submachine guns, they use a delay mechanism. I was wondering what would be best and why you think so. I'm going to poll it out, but I would really appreciate if you would comment on why. Thank you.

This is NOT a gun site, it's a zombie site. Talks of weapons are in relation to how good they might be against zeds (or if you like to be morbid, against marauders and raiders), not on their own. Sounds silly, but this is (part of) the reason why US&D was closed for almost a year a few months ago. Many users felt it was turning into "gun chat".
For what it's worth, rolled delayed IMO, MP5's have smooth auto fire. I bet you could actually use an MP5 on auto on a crowd of zeds and actually line up a few headshots with enough practice.

I clicked roller delayed , but even they wear out over time , and when that happens the gun is trash .the MP5-10 that the FBI uses is a 500rd gun ,then they buy another (or should I say we buy them another) . the gas system is great also but are we talking direct impengment (AR -15) or op-rod (AK's) . both can fail due to filth and broken parts . I get 1500 + rounds out of my M16 with a 11.5" barrel and suppresor. my AK is unknown but I'd guess somewhere around 3-4k I'd start having issues. thats alot of ammo between cleanings ,keeping up those kinda of #'s for very long would even chew up my ammo stash in short order. strait blowback such as most cheap subguns is the simplest and reliable (read fewest parts) that I really know of. ammo can become a problem with them though.
most other systems have a fairly short lifespan . I'd imagine that lever guns and a few bolt-actions would be pretty worn out and loose after 1krds , let alone the barrels having much rifiling left. same goes for pistols ,10k will kill all but the toughest ones around. I've seen S&W 29's that were junk after 400rds of hot ammo. rugers tend to last a little longer but thats not saying alot for the big picture.
as far as pistols go the link and lock up system of the berreta 92 (and clones ,etc) lends itself to being used with a silencer very well. the rest that use some variation of the browning link work well for there intended purpose and can be suppresed but its just a little harder.
I see this thread being more of a long term survivability topic rather than a what is better right now. its just a relevant as what ammo might be better .

"He has a valid point, garthaman. This isn't a guns site, so make it about zombies too, or it's getting locked."
