Post what you liked, and/or disliked about Movie Night this past Saturday... Suggestions are welcome here also. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/bzn123/Smileys/Characters/1bnz_smiley.gif

I enjoyed the part I was able to join in on, but I had to bail due to real life issues *accursed dishes! Why can't you wash yourselves!*

My only suggestion is that we use either the official ATZ chat room, or have a chat room set up on some other service, that way the input and jokes will flow more naturally and we won't constantly have to be hitting F5 to refresh the page *which for me at least, makes my DVD program stutter*

I enjoyed it. I don't really have any ideas on how to make it better, but I really wouldn't mind if it stayed the same.

I enjoyed it a lot. I think it would be fun to make some drinking game rules before the movie starts.:drinking:

if you dont wana drink then you could just watch the movie and chat Id reckon.

I dont drink a whole lot , only a few times a month, but I have no problem if they wana play a drinking game and drink them selfs under the table while we watch whatever movie we pick, I dont think anyone is trying to say you HAVE to drink to participate in this thing, just that its an option that is there if you want to partake in it.

It sucks that I forgot to visit the thread last saturday (I had to run some errands for my Dad), but at least I have an opportunity to post on the next movie night. May I suggest Grindhouse's Planet Terror?

Don't worry guys, there will be many more movie nights... Trust me. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/bzn123/Smileys/Characters/1bnz_smiley.gif

As for which movie will be shown is totally up to the membership... I like the idea of putting it to a good old fashion democratic vote... That way no one person can take the blame.

"Well, we have the chat channel here, and I have my own chat channel, dedicated to this forum, on mIRC. We could use either one."

Chat vs Thread? I've already went over this question about hundred times in my head... There are Pro & Cons on both sides of the issue:

Chat

Pros:
Messages are posted instantaneously.
We already have a chat room.Cons:
Can't control who can and who can't go on.
Very difficult to moderate.
Past messages are lost for good... No history.
Thread

Pros:
Easy to Moderate.
Can control who can and who can't participate.
Threads are available afterwards to anyone who wants to read them.
Threads are indexed and read on to the Google, and Yahoo search engines.
User has the ability to post pictures.Cons:
Messages are not instantaneous (must refresh screen constantly)
OK, I realize that Chat programs can do a lot more than what I just described above, however I was basing my comparison on our own ATZ chat room... It would be hard to convince Dead Kev, and myself to spring for a more expensive chat room system, so this is it... I feel the thread is the best way to go for us... I don't think we would be gaining that much more to what we already have by adding a high-end chat room. :)

I enjoyed it a lot. I think it would be fun to make some drinking game rules before the movie starts.

Past experience on ATZ has taught me that drinkin' & postin' don't mix... We lost some of best members because they couldn't carry on a civil, coherent conversation, while holding onto their liquor... If you want to drink, and participate on Movie Night then you'll have to do it on your own without our help... Perhaps you two can instant message each other?

I like the way you think zmbvan http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/bzn123/Smileys/Characters/1bnz_smiley_Lthumbup.gif

Well, You make good points BZN about the chat room, and I dont think springing for a new ATZ chat host is the way to go. However, Darkness did say she has a channel on mIRC and thats a fairly simple program to use, even for IRC noobs like me. easiest way to moderate who gets in would be that only people in the movie club get access to the room number *or whatever it is on IRC.*

Or we could set up a specific channel on mIRC for ATZ Movie night.

Just my thoughts.

Anyone? Anyone?.......*bueller?....bueller*

"If any IRC/mIRCers want to stop in, and check it out, it's on the undernet.net server. It's called #ATZ. Just incase you want to come chat from time to time."

"It's all registered, and no one has to pay me anything to use it......................................."

DTS, I think the most surprising thing that you've said so far is your willingness to climb on board with an unfamiliar chat host without knowing more about it... I have done a little looking into mIRC (Internet Relay Chat), and although it has received high praise from software reviewers & users alike, it is not just some simple chat program... Here's a direct quote from CNET Editor's Review, "IRC is more advanced than simple messenging, so it may take a while to get started." ATZ Movie Night is a new concept, and the last thing we should do at this time is introduce a totally foreign piece of software that only a few people are comfortable with... In addition I discovered a few other things I don't like about this chat software, and they are:
mIRC must be downloaded and installed on your computer... Many members may give pause to that idea, and I would never ask anyone to do this.
mIRC 6.31 is free to try, $20 to buy.
mIRC is only available for windows users.I think the real issue here comes down to you using your computer to play the movie, and chat all at the same time... Although this is perhaps a more efficient way to experience Movie Night, I don't know if it's the most practical way since many of us will probably be watching the film with someone else... My set up simply consists of my desktop computer setup facing toward the wall, and the TV directly in back of me... Yeah, there is plenty of twisting and turning, but I never have to worry about any software hangups or glitches... I feel the ideal way to experience Movie Night would be sitting on a couch in front of a TV with a wireless notebook computer parked on your lap. :2cents:

"About My mIRC Chat Channel............

"I have never paid for mIRC/IRC."

"There are other chat programs that can still access the Undernet server, where my chat channel is. So you wouldn't HAVE to use mIRC/IRC. It just happens to be the one I use."

"It's not as hard to join as they make it out to be."

"It's just an idea that we could use, if we chose to, sometime in the future."

"I made it for you guys, because I wuvs you guys."

"I, also, use it to recruit posters for the forum."

"You don't have to wait for movie night to come visit me there. And Admin gets automatic ops, on joining."

"Okay, I'm done now." :)

If that's the case, then why not use ATZ's chat room?

The same pro/cons that I stated before (chat vs thread) still haven't been fully addressed.

You still must download & install mIRC/IRC chat software in order to use it, right? http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/bzn123/Smileys/Confused.gif

"No. You don't NEED to specifically use 'mIRC/IRC' to chat in my channel. You can use other programs. All you need is to be able to access the undernet.org server. http://www.undernet.org/ That is free to anyone, and no downloading."

"There's only one reason I personally don't think the chat program the ATZ site uses would work is, if someone gets totally into the movie, and does not comment for to long a pause, the window closes you out. And you have to re-enter, losing the previous part of the conversation."

"With my chat channel not only can you just scroll up and catch up, I can log the whole thing if anyone wants to view it later, or post it."

I understand that you don't have to use mIRC/IRC but you still have to download software to make use of this system, right? It doesn't really matter, and this debate is moot... It all comes down to what DK wants, and he hasn't hinted to me that he wants to switch over to a Chat format... The mind set is that it would be taking Movie Night off the forums, and no one else, except for a few of us, would be be able to view it.

Well, I don't know about you, but I'm done with this thread. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y152/bzn123/Smileys/lockthreat_lego.gif
