What's Your Favorite Band/Genre?

well the title basically says it all, just talk about bands, and music.
my favorite genre is definitely punk and my favorite band's Choking Victim/Black Flag(I can't decide between the two)
I'm a big fan of reggae as well.

I listen to all kinds of music genres, but I like classic rock the best. KISS Greatest Hits was one of the first CDs I ever got, and is still my favorite band, along with bands like AC/DC, Queen, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead and Led Zeppelin. I also like a lot of metal and punk bands, as well as some of the new songs out.

Predominantly I'm a metal head, but I listen to a lot of everything, classic rock, electronic, etc.

Favorite band hands down though is Opeth

classic rock, 60's and 70's pop rock , oldies, as far as genres go.

favorite band would have to be black label society or joe cocker, the grass roots get an honorable mention.

outside of heavy metal and country music, todays music is sorely lacking in my opinion, it just lacks that groove or vibe that the older music has, it doesnt help that all these hip hop bozos couldnt tell you the diference between a guitar and a tire iron.

just last night here PBS ran 2 , 2 hour specials, 1 with live music from bands that were big in the 60's and one just like it but with 70's music, and it honestly made me sad to see how truely inspired and excelent every single song played was vs the trite shit that comes out today.


I go on youtube alot and listen to older songs from the 60s and 70s and ive noticed a growing trend of younger poeple ( 14 - 18 ) posting on these older songs saying how great they are vs todays music, hopefuly this trend continues, as music tends to move in trends and waves that last 10 - 15 years, the hip hop / rap movement should be dying out soon , and hopefuly this newer , younger generation that has been expressing intrest in the older, more melodic, groovin type of songs from yesteryear we will see a revival of this type of music.

Including bands like; Sonata Arctica, Blind Guardian, Kamelot, Helloween, Iced Earth, and so on.

Also folk metal and viking metal. Something about lyrics with Norse gods and taking over villages gets my blood moving.

Including bands such as; Ensiferum, Turisas, Korpiklaani, Wintersun, Vintersorg, and so on.

Also for some mild promotion, I host an online/broadcasted radio show every Sunday morning at 4am to 7am EST. Entitled The Road to Valhalla. www.wprkdj.org is where you can stream it from and chat with me during the show.

I'm also a big fan of irish music, wether its the punkish stylings of Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly or a proper irish folk band down the pub, there's no better music to jig around to!

Op Ivy's awesome, if your into ska i recommend the suicide machines and The specials, two very good bands.
and Bad Religions cool i like the album how could hell be any worse(1st)-Empire Strikes First everything after that's total crap if you ask me but they used to be a very unique sounding band.

Favorite band is My Dying Bride. Favorite genre is broadly 'metal' although I prefer the doom and death sub-genres specifically. I also like 60s, 70s, and 80s rock (eg. Floyd, Zeppelin, Stones, Queen et al) as well as some of the quirkier early 80s acts (eg. Talking Heads & some of the 'New Wave' bands).

I chose other, since alternative/indie wasnt on the list...my fave band is..well, use to be nirvana...i still really like 'em, but its kinda hard to listen to the same tunes over and over again. i use to be close minded about the type of music I liked, but I like pretty much anything now, well, except 80's hair metal bands and all the mainstream "hip-hop"...other then that im all over the place.

The truly greatest band of all time is Pink Floyd.

I like every single song that they have ever made.

Led Zeppelin comes in at a close second, IMO.

I like Metal and heavy punk like The Offspring. Been listening to alot of Progressive stuff like Dream Theater and Queensryche lately. Nothing beats some good ol SLAYER or Megadeth in the morning.

I also listen to alot of instumental stuff like Steve Vai and John Petrucci.
