I'm on a bit of a Starship Troopers trip at the moment, so the upcoming third installment has got me pretty excited, especially as the trailer went online a couple of days ago :). Despite the fact it looks cheesy as hell and lacks the budget, this definitely looks like a 'true' sequel to the original.
The war against the Bugs continues! A Federation starship crash-lands on the distant alien planet OM-1, stranding beloved leader Sky Marshal Anoke and several others, including comely but tough pilot Lola Beck. It's up to Colonel Johnny Rico, reluctant hero of the original Bug Invasion on Planet P, to lead a team of Troopers on a daring rescue mission.

Thanks for the update. It looks better than the second one. And its got Johnny Ricco, pretty cool  I enjoyed the movies and sci-fi was carrying the cartoon a while back. Those are cool. If your a fan then i would recommend picking them up. I have a few of them but i think there are more than what i have. Any idea what the release date is for this? The trailer just said coming soon.
Edit: never mind on the release date, wife just told me July 15 2008. :)

the 2nd one was hugely disapointing IMO, it didnt feel at all like the first, this one looks much better, will have to check it out for sure.

Watch the trailer for this got me thinking. Why in there no video game for this movie? It seems that it would transfer well in to a game as a fps or something along those lines. Movie looks cool though, I missed the second one but I really liked the first one.

there is a video game for this movie. it was put out for the pc awhile back, didnt play it but all the reviews say its terrible.
as for the 3rd.. say what you will but Starship Troopers is one of my favorite films of all time. Its got everything.. big guns, naked girls, ultra violence, action, war! .. yes its campy but its so great! imo.
been falling this one ever since it was a rumor.. cant wait. The 2nd wasnt that good, they tried to make it too much of a monster movie. I hope they make this one just like the first...

Actually the game is what put me on this SST trip that I'm going through. Its pretty much just mindless blasting but its great fun and really captures the feel of the film, the swarms of bugs are just endless. It didn't quite match up to then-current standards in terms of graphics but it still looks great IMO. Also try finding SST:Terran Ascendancy which was an excellent squad based RTS for PC (and I personally think is dying to be modded for zombies). It features the battle suits from the book as well as all the goodness from the film. I think you can download it from Lair of the Underdogs.

Couldn't agree with you more!
I actually gave the second film another watch a few days ago and found myself really enjoying it. The action sequences and SFX are actually pretty good considering the budget, if only they had kept the Morita's from the first film instead of those shitty blue flashlights I wouldn't have any real problems with it. I think its main problem is that it doesn't advance to overall plot any, its just a side story from some backwater world.

Good point. I also thought that it took it in the direction of a monster movie instead of a space/war movie of the first.
Looks like SST 3 is getting the DVD treatment instead of theater. Oh well. I'll be getting it first day:drinking:

Same here!
Although it looks like i'll have to wait a bit longer than you, the only release dates I can find say July 29th for USA, September 29th for UK, August 6th for Australia, and apparantly a July 19th theatrical release for Japan
Anyhoo a bit of an update, the film apparantly runs in at 105 mins and has recieved an "R rating for violence, language and some nudity". Also after a bit of digging the trailer is supposedly a rough cut so the sfx should look a lot better in the finished flick.

yeah a 3rd SST movie! ahhhhh it sucked!
HA. Well I wanted to like it.. but I just couldnt. I would have if the movie wasnt taking itself seriouslly but it was!!!! full of corny corny one liners (think of SST 1's worst line and they seem to have tried to beat that) Well.. better then the 2nd but still bad.
-Bad actors,
-bad bad bad cg,
-stupid looking weapons (why would the federation build those giant assault rifles for the troopers to lug around?)
- Since when to Marines say Whoha? its hoorah.
-making casper van dien say nothing but corny things
2/10

welloll it's not like it's gonna damage his stellar career in A films is it?
SST wasn't a bad flick, it was fun but it wasn't star ship troopers.

I recently saw this and thought it was pretty ok. I don't take any of the Star Ship Trooper movies all that serious, they're supposed to be a little corny, and I like the carnage.
I liked Marauder better than the second one, but not as much as the first one.:)
The cartoons are very cool, (done in CG) and come to think of it, they are not as corny as the movies. I recommend catching them if you haven't seen them
:eat:I dig the SST world and await the next installment.

I watched the 1st 30 minutes of this the other night. My gf came over so I turned it off. It was no where near as good as the 1st one. Which I am a huge fan of. But, it blows the 2nd one out of the water. Two was a huge disappointment. If you like the original then you should check marauder out.

it's the second one all over again
The second and third movies are so bad compared to the first. It's like rolling a little golden budda around in horseshit.
