Okay, I honestly tried searching to see if there was already a thread for this one, but searching the words "Nightmare on Elm Street" on a horror site is pretty much like Googling "Asian School Girls". In other words, if this is a repost then please forgive me and move on!!
I know we all remember the rumors floating around a couple of months ago about the Elm street prequel that was supposedly in the works. Let us also not forget another Jason versus ? movie. Well, I believe it can now be official that another installment is indeed on the way, but it's a new chapter with a little bit of prequel mixed in. Honestly, I'd like to see it go either way just so long as Freddy's back on the big screen!!

"Nightmare" to haunt big screen again
Tuesday January 29 8:50 PM ET
Freddy's back. Again.
New Line is in talks with horror production company Platinum Dunes to re-launch the "Nightmare on Elm Street" movie series, the franchise that helped establish the studio.
The first "Nightmare" movie was made by Wes Craven and released in 1984. The runaway success of the film spawned a slew of sequels and created one of the most popular villains in screen history, Freddy Krueger, played by Robert Englund.
The film centered on Krueger, a serial child killer murdered by angry parents, who returns with a burned face and a razor glove to terrorize teens in their dreams.
A screenwriter will be hired once the Writers Guild of America strike ends. The producers -- Michael Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form -- are hoping to focus part of the new movie on Krueger's backstory.
Platinum Dunes is prepping another re-launch, "Friday the 13th," which will be directed by Marcus Nispel for New Line, for whom it remade "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and its sequel.
The company is remaking "Near Dark" for Rogue and "The Birds" for Universal. It is also prepping a non-remake project, an untitled David Goyer thriller.

stupid. How much backstory do we possibly need of Krueger?
Im all for another though.. the series isnt strong at all in my opinion so hopefully they can stay away from the shit the sequels produced.
Dream Warriors...... HA!

man, I love freddy , so this is tremendous news , hope it gets off the ground.
doesnt sound like part 7 though, or any part of the series the line to re-launch the "Nightmare on Elm Street" sounds very remake'ish / re-imaging'ish, especily since they mention the upcoming friday the 13the remake, I sure hope this is NOT the case.
I also hope since its either part prequel or flat out remake they dont get some crazy idea about getting some pretty boy 20 - 30 something actor to play freddy.... robert englund or bust :drinking:

Looks as if they're not only replacing Doug Bradley in the Hellraiser remake, but now Robert Englund may be on the chopping block as well!!!
No Nightmare on Englund's Street

Robert Englund's term as Freddy Krueger may have come to end.
Platinum Dunes and New Line rocked the horror world last week when the production entities announced they were working together to overhaul the "Nightmare on Elm Street" brand. A number of industry sources recently phoned in to shed some light on the early discussions going on behind-the-scenes regarding "Nightmare"...and none of them include Englund starring as Krueger.
The franchise facelift includes discovering a new actor to polish up the finger knives and play the iconographic dream role Englund has practically made his second skin since '84.
Disheartening news for the fans, maybe, but rumor has it Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes is taking "Nightmare" back to square one...as in fresh start, hitting the reset button, making it their own (think "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" '03 and Friday the 13th '09). Because of this decision, they'd like to find another actor to carry the new Krueger into future films.
Again, early talks. Script-wise, nothing can be sealed up until the WGA strike meets an end...and it sounds like that may be sooner than later.
IMO, it's a wise move to create a new Freddy. Robert Englund's character has had SOOOO many shitty sequels filled with cheesy one-liners, that he has now become too campy and is near impossible to take seriously. Hopefully a new Freddy will bring the Elm Street franchise back to part 1 where it was a horror movie instead of a satire.
With these legendary characters being replaced right and left, I'm wondering how long it will be before we see a movie about all of them living together in a rest home and deciding to "take back" the personas they practically created!! Now THAT I would pay big bucks to see!!

I should've known that a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street would happen sooner or later. I'll probably go see it, since most of the current slasher remakes were really good (especially Texas Chainsaw Massacre). Plus with the current advancements in CGI, they could make the dream worlds look extremely trippy and hopefully have some of the coolest deaths in cimema. The only problem I have is recasting Freddy Kreuger. I know that Robert Englund is a bit of a joke after the sequels, but he was still scary as hell. If they were going to change anything for the remake, it would be that stupid red & green striped-Christmas sweater he's seen wearing! I know it's part of his image, but how scary can someone look with something like THAT on!

Oh, quick thought! Which energy drink do you think will sponsor the movie? You know the movie will probably use them!

you dont get a real good look at freddy for very long and he doesnt say much, so its hard to form any real solid opinion about it, but I feel how I pretty much thought I would, its totally weird seeing freddy and hearing freddy and it not being englung, its not bad, just different, and is going to take some time to get used to the change.
over all I would say it looks pretty good, fairly dark and sinister , and I will most likely be seeing it in the theater, but that was a foredrawn conclusion soon as this was announced.

It'll b interesting, I'll give it that, but did you watch the effects they were preforming on the trailer (such as the sparks), they were so unreal...made me want to throw up, i hope that's not how they put it together, subtle, discusting, and dark is the way to be for this film.
