Caught this trailer before Sweeney Todd last week. Looks like a pretty good date movie. Probably pretty predictable and poorly acted, but what more could you ask for on a boring Saturday night? Slated to be released April 4th...
Synopsis...
Based on the Scott Smith novel, "The Ruins" centers on a group of friends whose leisurely Mexican holiday takes a turn for the worse when they accompany a fellow tourist on a remote archaeological dig in the jungle, where something evil lives among the ruins.

"I saw the same trailer and it caught my attention too. It could be good, if done right."
Looked interesting enough to me. Also looked more horror than non-horror but who's to say.

Actually, it really doesn't show that much more than the original trailer. Kinda disappointing, but still gets my hyped up a bit more about this movie!!

Has anybody read the book? I am thinking of buying it and have heard some good reviews bugs or whatever crawling in your skin sounds creepy

Badly wanting to go see this at the theater, but the new baby is keeping us pretty tied up. My Dad is coming to visit this weekend, though, so maybe I can get him and his wife to babysit for a couple hours.

I saw this this afternoon. By no means was it a great movie, but it wasn't a stinker either. I don't really think what I'm getting ready to say is a spoiler, as it involves something not in the movie, but knowing how picky some are, I'll tag it anyway.
My biggest complaint is that there's no explanation of why the ruins are evil in the first place.
My next complaint is definitely spoilerish, so read at your own risk.
As with most horror flicks, the general lack of common sense is the biggest detriment to the characters longevity. Case in point, the girl with the "bugs" under her skin has her back to the others, knife in hand, trying to cut them out. The first guy comes up behind her and attempts to take the knife. She promptly spins around and cuts him. So, what does the next guy do? Comes up behind her to try to take the knife and gets stabbed. Common sense tells me not to try to disarm someone from behind, where you can't see the weapon...but evidently that's just me.
Well, that's it. If you're one of those where little plot holes ruin a movie for you, don't bother with this one, because it's not perfect. But, if you're like me and only catch matinees and pay no more than five bucks, it'll pass an hour or so...and there's a couple of hot chicks in it, so that's always a good thing.

Sorry buddy, that wasn't my intent. But living here in the sticks, I gotta brag about the few pleasure small town life affords...and fortunately cheap movie tickets are one of them.

Ugh this movie was pretty terrible. It had some effective scenes but overall just typical dribble. Glad I didnt waste the money in the theater.

Got this one from Netflix last week. I guess I enjoyed it alright. If you enjoyed Cabin Fever, then you'll probably find The Ruins worth a look.

I liked the worm-like vines, and their ability to mimic sound. And when they had to cut the vines out of them, :)
Average book, very good movie

The worms squirming under their skin was really nice, then having to cut them out, even better. Definitely the highlight moments of the film IMO.
Well I finally watched The Ruins last night and thought it had some good actors and decent characters in it but the film itself just didn't do it for me. The guy getting his legs amputated was a good scene but the rest of the film was sorta like Little Shop of Horrors on top of a mayan ruin lol.
I thought that the film was gonna be about them being inside the ruins more and like some creature of some kind was stalking them but it wasn't. It was about like poison ivy trying to grab you lol.
The film has some high powered money behind it with Ben Stiller being the executive producer on it but he just needs to stick to comedy lol.

It's a pretty good and original movie with a slew of remakes and sequels.

I really liked this flick. Maybe because I enjoy the spoof horror or slapstick as well as the "serious" horror. This one fell somewhere in the middle of the two extremes which was fine.
and that chick that got away is banging
