Ha! I love how they've mined all of the classics and now they're aiming for the "What was that movie again?" category. Prom Night and The Stepfather? HA! How about My Bloody Valentine, Sleepaway Camp and The Dentist as well?!!
Exactly that. This is just about obscure enough that mainstream movie fans will think it's a new'un
I love the original Prom Night but this remake is gonna suck cause it's PG-13 and I bet it will have off screen kills and be lame ass hell like When a Stranger Calls remake.

Not to shit on your opinion but the original Prom Night wasn't exactly ana amazing entry in to the slasher sub-genre. Besides, nowadays PG-13 means absolutely nothing when it comes to DVD releases.

It's not about proving or improving anything, it's about doing business with a whole new slew of potential fans with expendable income that have neither seen nor heard of Prom Night.

... And as for My Bloody Valentine... GRIM flick! Let's hope that bitch of a movie stays, safely unfondled, in the archives. :scare:

That's what Netflix is for, or dvd's, or even old video tapes. Come on Blind Dead stop playing blind, okay? It's getting old.

What's getting old are your obvious attempts to provoke me in to some kind of forum war and that's just not going to happen. Stick to the topic and offer a little mature discussion.
Remakes, especially forgettable films like Prom Night, aren't going away simply because horror fans play hard, fast and unrealistic with the word "classic."

Excellent point! There's really no doubt that this movie is gonna suck, but it's still fun to see everyone get into an uproar about another remake!:)

Nobody's having an uproar, it's just Blind Dead is jumping in a conversation that didn't include him, that's all. Prom Night shouldn't be in an uproar unlike Hellraiser. Now, that should cause a riot.

I'm afraid this remake is going to stink.:poo: I haven't been impressed with the majority of the remakes so far. I do agree that Hollywood has run out of ideas, but I think that happened a long time ago and not something recent.

I'm shocked it's still an issue. I've yet to see a remake halted by online whiners.

Hollywood hasn't run out of ideas at all. There are thousands of writers out there writing fantastic screenplays and there are many wonderful horror films, and films in general, being produced and released every year. Remakes aren't about a lack of ideas, they're about established fanbases and disposable income.

I agree and disagree with you there. I don't believe that it has everything to do with established fanbases and disposable income entirely. I think in fact that is half of it. The other is a lack of creativity and/or laziness knowing that it is easier to just re-make rather than create an original story.

Remakes still require writers and writers still get paid whether their script is original or not. It makes absolutely no sense to insist producers, directors and bean counters are "lazy" and "lack creativity" when none is really required on their end, so to speak. From a business perspective, remakes are a safer bet than pumping millions in to original concepts. Why take a chance and fail at establishing a fanbase when films like TCM and F13 already have them established? What fans call lazy, the industry calls a "sure bet."
Fans too often make the assumption that remakes are about "Hollywood" being lazy and uncreative because they have no understanding of the film industry and the kind of work and money that go in to films.

kind of off topic, but I wonder which way they are going to go with the friday the 13th remake... keep it original, or make jason the killer since hes such a cultural icon now and sadly alot of folks have no clue his mom was the killer in the original, I can see it now, someone leaving the theater going WTF was that ! some old lady was the killer, they totaly ruined that movie by taking jason out !
anyway, the prom night remake could be OK, but i expect this to be one of the movies marketed at the 15 year old crowd, dont mean it will be bad, just means it wont be as good as it could be , just my :2cents:

Concerning Prom Night, it most definitely will be aimed at the 13 to 16 crowd. I'm not sure where but I recently saw a still that looked very "Hip Hoppy." I'm figuring this will have a very pop spin.
As for F13 remake, they'll re-work the concept to make Jason the antagonist instead of his Mother.

I just watched the original "Prom Night" the other day, and while it was by no means great *or even really good* I enjoyed it and found it to be an amusing entry into the early 80's slasher genre.
That said, I dont see a problem with a remake of this one, It's a slasher for crying out loud, and considering this is "Prom Night" were talking about, it couldnt hurt to be updated a tad.
And Shhh! Dont mention "My Bloody Valentine" or "Sleepaway Camp"!!! You might give them more ideas!

I'm generally fairly easy going on remakes but this does look ****ing awful/
I didn't think that this movie was all that bad actually. It had some decent acting in it and it was totally different from the 1980 film in every way. The plot was different, different characters, etc.....it was more of a thriller than a horror flick really. All that was the same in both films was just the title.
I liked Johnathan Schaech as the obessed insane teacher and even though most of the kills were off screen except for 1 good stabbing I still enjoyed this film for what it was. The killer in it reminds me of stalkers like John Hinkley who was so obessed with the actress Jodie Foster that he tried to assainate Reagen in the early 80's.
Overall, I give it a 6 out of 10 rating. It would have been better with some gore in it but what the hell I still liked it.
