Thought a thread dedicated to all those movies we hear about that are on the horizon would be a good idea. We all hear or read about movies that are in pre-production or are simply being talked about by industry types, but alot of times we're all reluctant to start a thread on them simply because they might not ever make it to the screen or they are so far off that the thread will get buried way before the movie is ever officially announced. Hopefully, this thread will be a place where we can discuss those movies and even learn from other members about projects we've always wanted to see but might not know about yet.

To get started...

Land of the Lost is making it to the big screen on July 17, 2009. I believe Will Ferrell will be playing Rick, (the dad), and is the only definite cast member as of yet. But I've read in alot of places that Jack Black has also signed on to play Will and Kirsten Dunst will be playing Holly. I don't think there's any question that this will be a comedy and I, for one, cannot wait for it!!

Also, if you're a gamer, there are plenty of movie adaptions on the horizon...

Street Fighter (gotta make up for that Van Damme catastrophe)
World of Warcraft
God of War
Halo
The Sims
Gears of War
Tekken
Onimusha
Return to Castle Wolfenstein
Prince of Persia
Max Payne

I saw a trailer before The Mist for something called "The Pookipsie Tapes" (spelled something like that), which is pretty much the showing of a serial killer's murders through his video camera. I don't know if there's already a thread for this, but the concept sounds awesome.

And for Land of the Lost, AWESOME!!! BRING ON THE SLEESTAK!!!

That would be The Poughkeepsie Tapes (http://documentaryfilmpartners.com/). And yes it did look quite interesting.

I'm looking forward to Wanted (http://www.wantedmovie.com/) starring Morgan Freeman and Anjelina Jolie.

I wouldn't mind catching Untraceable (http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/untraceable/index.html) starring Ashley Judd either.

I have heard rumors of the Wayan brothers doing a movie on the classic TV show The Munsters. I get a bad feeling they would totally screw it up.

Hrm....let's see.....I don't tend to get hyped about movies anymore and I often miss the ones I do have an interest in - at least until they hit DVD. But looking ahead from this moment in time, those that have sparked my interest are:

Aliens Vs Predator: Requiem (2007)
It'll probably suck (the last one was terrible) but having spent some years dealing closely with the franchises (via the long-defunt AvPNews.com), I feel it's at least worth a viewing for 'old times' sake'). At least this time it's not a PG-13 :P

Army Of The Dead (2009)
It all sounds very promising so far, but I really hope there's no sprinting zombies this time around....

Diary Of The Dead (2007-8)
For obvious reasons I don't need to go into.

Dragonlance: Dragons Of Autumn Twilight (2008)
The trailer looked pretty awful, but I feel compelled to see this purely because I know the original book so well. Plus I'm intrigued to see how Kiefer Sutherland portrays Raistlin Majere.

Punisher: Warzone (2008)
Although it had very mixed reviews and wasn't an astounding box office success, I enjoyed the 2004 version of The Punisher (with the always-excellent Thomas Jane). Even the older Dolph Lundgren one was tolerable, despite the fact he never wears the shirt. This new flick looks encouraging - Ray Stevenson certainly looks like he could be Frank Castle - I just hope they make it closer to the comic book original this time.

The Pacific (2009)
Not a movie per se, but the 'sequel' series to HBO's fantastic Band Of Brothers - this time set in the Pacific theatre (as the name suggests). Ten episodes are apparently in development. Tom Hanks and Spielberg are again producing.

The Hobbit (20??)
It's still up in the air as to whether this will get made or not - much obviously depends on how soon New Line get their asses in gear and start the ball rolling, preferably with Peter Jackson back onboard. I like the idea of having it in two-parts, with supplementary material from Tolkien's other writings to flesh out the links to Lord Of The Rings.

Under The Mountain (2009?)
This is being adapted from a novel by New Zealander Maurice Gee, which was made into a NZ TV series back in the Eighties. I enjoyed both as a teenager so I'm interested to see how this new version turns out - it's about a pair of red-headed twins with dormant psychic powers who go up against a family of monstrous slug-like aliens bent on turning the world into a desolute mud-waste. It's being directed by the same guy who recently brought us Black Sheep.

World Of Warcraft (2009)
I'm interested in this purely because I played the game for 18 months - so it's very familiar territory.

World War Z (2009?)
Excellent book - hopefully to become an excellent movie too.

I personaly think that making a movie based on an MMO is cheap, there is almost zero story to base it on, its more or less just using the name to make a quick buck from the poor folks who are addicted to whatever game it happens to be, they are making a movie based on everquest too suposedly which I cant see working at all either, and mind you I played EQ for 7 years of my life ( which I would gnaw off my arm at the shoulder to get back ) .

onimusha could make a very cool movie, a samarai horror type deal, I thought the games were great, with great atmosphere and a solid story.

im keeping and eye on the new hulk movie, with prhases like "reboot" and "fresh start" being thrown around hopefuly they can do it some justice this time around,

Maybe, but the Warcraft world has an ongoing mythology/history since the first game came out in 1994. It wouldn't be that hard to come up with stories for it - especially considering there are already entire novels based on the franchise. At any rate, the WoW movie is set before the events of the game and after Warcraft 3.

I'll also add that it's no worse making a movie from a MMO than it is making movies based on other everyday videogames out there. It's not like the majority of videogames have intricate plots, gripping characters, or even structural narrative. Hell, they made a movie out of Doom - a game where you do nothing more just shoot demons and collect keys. One wonders what the hell they're going to do with The Sims movie :P

I have heard rumors of the Wayan brothers doing a movie on the classic TV show The Munsters. I get a bad feeling they would totally screw it up.

The good news about that one is that the Wayans' aren't planning on actually starring in the movie, so it may have a chance of being decent after all.

Source - Variety...Keenen Ivory, Shawn and Marlon Wayans have made a deal with Universal Pictures to write and produce a modern-day take on The Munsters for Universal Pictures, reports Variety.

The Wayans brothers don't intend to star in the film, which will give Herman, Lily, Grandpa, Marilyn and Eddie Munster a new lease on life. Keenen Ivory may direct the film.

Produced by Universal Television from 1964-66, The Munsters is the story of a suburban family that resembles an assortment of 1930s movie monsters and can't understand why they always seem to frighten the neighbors.

If you're into rock band movies, apparently Kirsten Dunst is all set to play pop/punk icon Deborah Harry in a movie detailing her band Blondie. Also, "Neon Angels" is about to go into production which will be telling the story of The Runaways. For those who don't know them, they were an all female rock band back in the 70's whose members included Lita Ford and the always kick ass Joan Jett.

NEW PREDATOR MOVIE?? yes please. :eat:

I found this else where and I thought I'd share, this would be so super cool if it pans out. :drinking:

Aliens vs. Predator Franchise Dead?
But one series might live on
From: Shock Till You Drop (http://www.anonym.to/?http://shocktillyoudrop.com/news/topnews.php?id=7826)[/CENTER]

Producer John Davis seems to think 20th Century Fox's Aliens vs. Predator is all washed up.

"I think we've logically done what we could've done with the two AvP movies. But I think there's something to go back to with Predator," Davis tells Collider (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.collider.com/entertainment/interviews/article.asp/aid/9244/tcid/1).

If true, this, of course, eradicates those internal rumblings we had been getting within the halls of Fox about another AvP sequel. Hollywood is so fickle, it doesn't surprise us that the sequel buzz shifted gears.

What's all this about a new Predator, however? "Well, the Governor [Arnold Schwarzenegger] has mentioned to me that when he ceases to be Governor, if he doesn't run for the Senate and all of that stuff, he’d like to do a movie or two again. And I don't know, maybe we could restart the Predator franchise."

Predator 3? News to me, says Rothman
Or perhaps a remake???
From: Moviehole (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.moviehole.net/200816099-predator-3-news-to-me-says-rothman)

FOX chairman Tom Rothman told IESB (http://www.anonym.to/?http://www.iesb.net/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=5599&Itemid=99) today that, although he’s open to the idea, there’s nothing solid to suggest Arnold Schwarzenegger is returning to the “Predator” series after he wraps up his Governorship. It’s a pipe dream of producer John Davis apparently, and might just stay that way.

‘’You'll forgive me if I'm a little skeptical about John and that but...just give the Governor my number’’, Rothman tells the site. ‘’Tell him as soon as he gets the state budget signed to call me’’.

Davis told Collider.com (http://www.anonym.to/?http://collider.com/) that he’d decided to let the “Aliens Vs. Predator” franchise rest for a while and was instead developing a third “Predator” remake – one that may bring back Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character ‘Dutch’.

Rothman suggests that if Schwarzenegger doesn’t return as Dutch they could remake the original 1987 film.
