Yet another remake of a Takashi Miike film. This one is originally entitled "Chakushin Ari" and has a couple of similarities to The Ring, The Grudge and so on, but I'll still see it anyway just because I'm not quite sick of the whole Asian remake trend just yet. I caught the trailer before The Mist a couple of days ago and figured TBD would already have something up about this!! You gettin' slow old man?!:)

Synopsis...
What will it sound like when you die? In "One Missed Call," a chain of people receive terrifying cell phone messages of their own final fatal moments. Though the messages can be deleted, their number is up. Beth Raymond (Shannyn Sossamon) is traumatized when she witnesses the gruesome deaths of two friends just days apart. Even more disturbing, she knows that both of them had received chilling cell phone messages—actual recordings of their own horrifying last moments. Impossibly, the calls were received days before they died, but each death occurred precisely when and how the messages foretold. The police think Beth is delusional—except for Detective Jack Andrews (Edward Burns) whose own sister was killed in a freak accident that bears a strange similarity to the deaths of Beth's friends. Together, Jack and Beth work feverishly to unravel the mystery behind the ominous calls. But even as they get closer to the truth, Beth's cell phone begins to ring with an eerie tune, and the readout says One Missed Call...

 Not slow, just bored. There's only a few people on this forum (of thousands) that actually seemed interested in real horror and it's hard to hold regular discussions with so few people.

Ha! I knew you'd be right on top of that comment!

So will this one be worth watching or not? The remake is directed by Eric Valette which is someone I don't know anything about. I know alot of "purists" around these parts take great offense in anyone even insinuating that the American version might be worth watching, but you usually seem to give them a fair shake. I think you and I might be the only people here, in fact, that liked the American version of The Grudge!

I'm no really a big fan of Takashi Miike's horror so I can honestly say...One Missed Call wasn't all that great. It was pretty damn derivative when it first came out. This, in my opinion, has a chance to be slightly better. The cast is pretty unimpressive but the director, Eric Valette, has a fantastic horror film already under his belt (Maléfique) so it could be worthwhile.

I think it's a shame all of these hot, young directors from around the globe are only being utilized by American production companies for remakes but I suppose everybody has to pay their dues in Hollywood.

Well, my interest in this movie has quickly been destroyed over the last few hours since the new trailers have been running on television. It looks less like a good story now and more like some teen/linkin park type drivel ala Wes Craven's Cursed. The music is what really destroyed this whole thing for me. Take a look...:puke:

"I just watched the trailer here, and I have to agree. Although the music itself is good, it feels wrong. Doesn't give the right energy to the trailer."

"I do want to see this one, but I'm pondering watching the original first, as I haven't seen it yet. Should I? Or should I just jump into the remake?"

"And TBD, I love discussing horror shows. But between the random untagged spoilers, the fact that I always have to wait a few months to see a movie, the fact that I'm usually the last to see a movie, and the fact that (like most of us) I also have a life that's quite busy as of late, I feel a bit lagged when it comes to these review threads. But I do what I can, when I can to help keep the conversations going. Sorry I can't be around more."

The Wildside awaits you. Real horror talk baby and absolutely NO SPOILERS. :)

As for this remake, go with the original first. They're always the best, even when they're not.

When I first saw this commercial, it reminded me of "The Ring". If I can catch the original, I'll watch it first before I see the remake. I made the mistake of watching the remake of "The Grudge" first before the original, and I'll never do that again!

And I would love to discuss horror, too. In fact, when I was born, my dad's first words when I popped out were: "The horror... The horror."

And poor Ed Burns, he's better at directing than acting, or at least for his choices of his roles-except for "Saving Private Ryan".
