F*CK YEAH!!!
Alot of us remember this 1984 classic film and have been hearing rumors going around about a possible remake for a long long time. I sincerely hope that RZ does in fact opt to take on this one! I think his style would pay off big time with a story as good as this one! CHUD was one of the handful of movies that I got to see at a drive-in when I was growing up and is absolutely one of the most memorable!!
From Bloody-Disgusting...
According to Billboard.com Zombie might direct the remake of C.H.U.D., which Tim Cox was originally attached to. Zombie wouldn't confirm, we'll look further into the matter. In the original a rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A courageous policeman, a photo journalist and his girlfriend, and a nutty bum, who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try and determine what the creatures are and how to stop them.

From Bloody-Disgusting...
We received word for Rob Zombie's management team that he will NOT be directing the remake of C.H.U.D., even though other websites are reporting otherwise. It was all a rumor, they tell us, Rob never said he was interested in CHUD or even thinking about doing it.

the original wasn't by any means a well done film (don't get me wrong it's an enjoyable film, but it is a low budget mess) so a remake (if done like Hills Have Eyes, Dawn of the Dead or TCM---re-working) could be interesting.

C.H.U.D. Remake Becomes 'Urban Decay'? (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/11793)
Although I can't say we're exclusive on this one, along with another horror website we have received some casting sides for an upcoming horror pic entitled Urban Decay (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/1352), which we might have tossed aside had the other site not made a curious observation - a reference to C.H.U.D.s in the script! For example: "A CHUD plants its mutated claws into the businessman's face! Dragging him back into the darkness; SCREAMING, CHUDS swarming from the shadows..." It hasn't been confirmed yet if this is in fact a remake to the classic '80s horror pic C.H.U.D., but we'll keep you posted as we discover more. -Bloody-Disgusting

EXCLUSIVE C.H.U.D. Writers Talk Developing Remake Script! (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/news/11796)
Last night we reported that a possible remake to C.H.U.D. was in the works under the name Urban Decay (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/film/1352), today we got in touch with the writers of the script to chat a bit about what to expect. Read on for the skinny. Being written by Ian Malone and Andrew Goring the original followed a rash of bizarre murders in New York City seems to point to a group of grotesquely deformed vagrants living in the sewers. A courageous policeman, a photo journalist and his girlfriend, and a nutty bum, who seems to know a lot about the creatures, band together to try and determine what the creatures are and how to stop them.
Ian Malone clarified with us that URBAN DECAY is in fact the remake to C.H.U.D., which was originally set up over at Dimension Films. Malone tells us that the title still isn't set in stone. "[We're] still unsure [of the title], but if there was a vote, we'd vote for 'CHUD'," he tells Bloody-Disgusting.
How will the remake differ from the original? Malone explains, "More monsters and action sequences, but we're not changing the tone. This isn't just any movie for us, this is CHUD, one of our favorite movies. This remake is a celebration of what we love about the original, as all remakes should be." He also chatted a bit about the gore levels. "The original has some great gore gags and it's a lot of fun coming up with new ones."
Malone also clarifies that their goal isn't to make it better than the original, but to take inspiration from it. "Our goal is not to be better than the original. We're taking inspiration from the original premise, and trying to infuse it with our own energy. If you're gonna remake a movie, you have to care about the original. That's the way we're looking at this. We love CHUD and we want to bring the CHUD experience back to theaters."
The main experience behind CHUD will be learning what the creatures look like. "CHUD is a movie where half of the fun is finding out what the CHUDs look like. There's some definite similarities (as you've probably read) but expect more variety in the types/stages of CHUDness." -Bloody-Disgusting
