"CAPCOM Co., Ltd. (Osaka, Japan -- representative director and president: Haruhiro Tsujimoto; hereinafter "CAPCOM") and Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Japan -- representative director and president: Ken Munekata; hereinafter "SPEJ") have announced coproduction of "BIOHAZARD: Degeneration," the first full-length CG animation feature based upon the BIOHAZARD series of games and movies.

BIOHAZARD, began as a hit international video game franchise created by CAPCOM, then made its debut on the silver screen as the live-action film RESIDENT EVIL (the international film title for BIOHAZARD), distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Entertainment. RESIDENT EVIL is the first trilogy of live-action movies to have come from a video game franchise. CAPCOM and Sony Picture's Japanese subsidiary SPEJ have teamed up to give birth to a CG-animated BIOHAZARD with groundbreaking visual effects and a brand-new story line."

Considering I loathed the 'Alice trilogy' of Resident Evil movies, this gives me a glimmer of hope that they'll produce a film this time that is much closer to the tone/plotline of the games. Plus, with CGI it'd be simplicity to bring back any/all of the original game cast.

At any rate, this new Resident Evil movie is planned for release next year.

I like the idea as well. Even though I also love the "Alice chronicle" films, it would be nice to see some movies more in sync with the video game franchise.

this could be awesome, the RE movies while they were decent action flicks and OK zombie flicks, sucked balls as RE movies, geneticly enhanced super soldier doing backflips is just not very resident evil, so hopefuly this gives the fans of the game a chance to get a true movie actualy based on the games, just hopefuly its not done anime style, everytime i see something is being done animated these days thats always my first though, not a big fan of anime at all :puke:

While I did love the Alice movies, I really want to see something closer to the games that I adore. I thought that Extinction would do that, with Claire, but I wasn't satisfied. Hopefully this will.

Sounds promising if Capcom plays a part in the story. Hope they have plenty of zombies in it, as RE4 and RE5 games have moved on from traditional zombies as the main enemies.

Ive just seen over on UHM.com, that there is a new resi movie being done next year. Its going to be done using CGI. I think its going to follow the game rather than the movie. Its titled biohazard degeneration. Does anyone no any more?

There isn't much information released yet but the movie should fill in some holes, answer some questions and explore new storylines. You should check some Resident Evil websites for more specialized information and additional links.

This is what I've been waiting for, although Anime style would have been cool too. but lets face it the way we all were introduced to Chris Redfield, Tyrants and Hunters was in CGI so this should be very close.

I can get the taste of Paul Anderson Cack fest finally out of my mouth, maybe someone can fix Doom and AvP then I'll really be happy.

hmmm, it says that its a fan made trailer from footage from the games, but I havent seen any of those scenes in any of the RE games and dont ever remember seeing an air plane or an an air plane crashing into a terminal,

if that really is the movie then it looks top notch and should be a very worthy RE movie finally, maybe at the end they can show claire throwing mila jovavich off a cliff while shes on fire after being shot 30 or 40 times, probaly not but I can always hope .

What he's trying to say is that the trailer for a movie of RE: Degeneration's undeniable caliber being on the DVD for something as 'meh' as RE: Extinction screams of irony.

So, to answer your question... no.:-(

'Resident Evil: Degeneration' Website Launched

This afternoon Sony Pictures Home Entertainment launched the official website for their animated feature film, RESIDENT EVIL: DEGENERATION. At the site you'll find a trailer, production blog and synopsis, which reads: he "Umbrella Incident" that took place in Raccoon City was ended with the eradication of the deadly virus by a missile attack ordered by the government. As its operations were suspended on a global scale, Umbrella Corporation stock plummeted. This serious blow to the business giant resulted in its complete dissolution. 7 years later, at an airport somewhere in the United States. An ordinary autumn afternoon. One zombie is unleashed into this peaceful scene to attack everyone. In the airport starting to fill up with the undead, the horrific disaster is about to be repeat itself...

O.K I would hardly call that a trailer!! Teaser maybe.. I really liked the Resident Evil movies. The first had some of the best zombies ever. The third had some real jumps (Sort of like scares) and the super zombies in their cages and being tamed was very good. Their is more of that in the extras. Not being of the gaming generation I only played Resident evil with my son. My claim to fame with him or at least to ME, is that I kileed a zombie with a knife!! Isnt that great! Anyway this isnt going to be the movie that is the end of the live acting series is it?

mattdettorre123

I liked the movies, you have to understand that the movies super zombies were tie ins to the books, which were all based of the T-Veronica strain. The movie fails to get into depths but that's basically what the super zombie is all about. In the books they use guns and such.

DoorstopIdol
07-22-2008, 03:30 PM
And one wouldn't necessarily call the books canon, would they? I mean, being allowed to write glorified fan-fiction and being involved in the main RE universe are two separate things that I think the first three movies failed to grasp. I'm not saying they were terrible movies, just not very Resident Evil as much as action flicks with zombies and a familiar name.

Going by that teaser this film has potential, and you would think that since Capcom is directly involved that it would be more accurate with the series of games. And yes, that man looks a lot like Leon, and I think that was Claire in the beginning. So, pairing them up again would be a good thing to do from one point of view, since Resident Evil 2 is still considered by many to be the best of the series (not including RE4 of course...which starred Leon anyway...). I'm optimistic...but I'm just not sure where this movie will fit in with the RE timeline.

As someone mentioned before it could take place when Leon returns from rescuing Ashley after RE4, but if that were the case, where is she and what is Claire doing there? I guess we'll have to wait and see, if for nothing else then at least a longer trailer.

Great move Capcom. I hope there's a ton of zombie blasting. Now we need Capcom's "Dead Rising" CGI movie... I'll be surprised if this reaches widespread theaters(considering the FF CGI movie), but it's a must-see for RE fans. Looks like it'll be contained inside the airport location. It needs an R rating to live up to the games, as the trailer was "approved for all audiences".

Why all the hatin' on the RE movies? Because it isn't true to a videogame series? No less of an authority than GAR himself credited RE for the resurgence of interest in Zombies.
You take the good with the bad, I guess, and CGI's gotta be cheaper and easier than using real people and sets.

Flyboy
10-22-2008, 08:55 AM
I've got no beef with the RE movies, there's been a lot of hits among the misses.

The opening to the first movie.
The church/Licker scene in Apocalypse.
Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentine *pant*
Carlos Riviera's "We're expendable assets... and we've just been expended"
The whole scope of Extinction.
BIRDS!!!

My only real problem is the seemingly endless continuation of the Alice saga. When the Japanese setting popped up at the end of RE:E, I jumped out my seat. The zombies in the street... sweet... time to go in a new direction with the story.

But nope, to Umbrella HQ and lo-and-behold we are shown the proud unveiling of an army/nation of Alices.

I'm excited for Degeneration because on top of being game-faithful (trust me, I respect the live action series' original concept) it'll be a return to simplicity, unlike how the live action saga is getting a little overbaked.

And it's got Leon F'n Kennedy. Someone they should never try and cast in the live action movies. Never.

Being a non game playing oldster I loved resident Evil 1. The zombies were among the best. The axe dragging twisted foot scene with Euro metal and bullets flying Gotta love it. Resident Evil 2 basicly sucked, Res 3 was overall excellent. The variant of Dr Frankenstein and Bub was excellent. If you see the extended scene of that in the 'extras' their is a zombie cherry picking scene that is as good as it gets. Question after this new cartoon, sorry, but to me, thats what it is, will their be more Resident Evil Zombie flicks with Mila?

It was pretty meh.... It was however far closer to the games then the live action movies. The plot was pretty much like a Res game but without the gameplay of mowing down the zombies. I watched it the other day. I thought it was pretty good. There's this one scene, (It's near the beginning, so it shouldn't be too much of a spoiler), when the outbreak first happens, which is at an airport. But on a plane coming in, someone was also infected. Anyway, just after the outbreak starts, you hear a warning come over the speakers saying: "All persons inside the terminal, evacuate the building immediately; this is not a drill" and repeats. Everyone is panicky running, because of the zombies and shit, and Claire is trying to get to a loved one. Just after the warning comes, she looks towards the terminal window. You don't really see it at first, not unless you know what to look for...

My only complaints about the film are it was too short, 90 mins isn't enough for Resident Evil think of how long it took to complete the games.

It's head and shoulders above the live action crap and I hope Capcom make another (Longer) film, perhaps with Barry Burton or Rebbecca Chambers.

I just saw the film tonight , and I thought it was pretty damn good. The only complaint I have of the film is that it didn't have as much zombie action as I wanted. Although the airport scene was awesome, I would've wanted to see more direct zombie attacks (and definately more graphic) instead of trying to enhance the "WilPharma's realtion to Unbrella" storyline. However, I still thought it was a good alternative to the other RE films (even though I liked Apocolipse better), and I give it a 4 out of 5.

This is great for those of us who wished those cool cinemas in the games had lasted longer. And fortunately, it doesn't try to hid its zombies the way the second live action film did. All in all, I say bring on the next installment.

Zombies= great
No Zombies=stupid and boring.

So I liked about 30 minutes of this movie. Making it garbage.

This was just ok for me...not enough zombies and the "monster" stuff doesn't do a thing for me....I thought the plot was weak and the motive/creation of the monster was just plain dumb...

I'll still end up getting it for the collection...but I'll buy it used..:eat:

Resident Evil: Degeneration- 2 out of 5. Now I'm one of the biggest RE fans around, and I had REALLY high hopes for this one. But the movie was all around flat. It had some fun parts, and I'll be watching it again for sure. But if I wasn't an RE fan I'd be damn dissapointed in this one.

i f**king love this film. It is so much better than the live action shit that paul anderson comes up with, he should look at this to see how a true resident evil story should be written.

10/10

Best thing about this film is that it's made me want to play resi 2 again, just need to find somewhere that still sells it lol.

I loved it. I think if you liked the old RE games you should really like this, it has the feel of the cut scenes from the games. If you aren't a fan of the games then I think it would just be a decent monster movie. Only the first half has zombies, the second half has a monster guy.

Looking to get this one next week, upon it's release in the UK. Any word on how good the Blu Ray looks?

I think Degeneration offers hope of some good Resident Evil movies. I did get around to watching the three previous movies which I found to be pretty ridiculous and couldn't see any connection to the games.

This one is in the style of the games and is very good in that sense, maybe not the strongest storyline but it is a good start in eclipsing the other three and beginning anew; just as the newer Batman films eclipsed the previous three terrible attempts and started over.

So I enjoyed this and have high hopes for the future productions.

I love this movie! When I saw it I was blown away! I too have seen the live action movies so no connection to the games. I really do hope they make more cgi movies for resident evil.

Finally finished watching this, looks bloody superb in hi-def... hands-down better than any of the live-action movies. I loved it.

I did think I was gonna gripe over the lack of zombies in the remaining 2/3's of the movie, but I actually feel it was done right. It allowed the breathing space for the central storyline to flourish.

Leon was the badass we all know and love, I still have a e-crush on Claire and I can only hope we get more of these - preferably re-tellings of past games (imagine RE4 told on a CG movie platform!)

It was a good movie but yea, definitely lacking on zombie action.

Side note...Claire had some massive breasteses animated on her, they just seemed so very heavy compared to the rest of her physique.

I know exactly what I want to see in the next CGI movie...

if they are not going to give us some sort of game where we can play as barry burton, or at least have him in a game in a suporting role , then make the next CGI movie focus on barry.

seriously, barry is bad ass, and from all the folks I talk to he is very popular, every auxiliry character from the first resident evil has gotten attention, chris in code veronica now RE5, jill in RE3, wesker in CV and RE5, hell even rebeca got her own game, but yet nothing from barry other then being mentioned at the end of RE3.

I say make the next CGI movie about barry, have it be set after RE3 when they blow up racoon city, have barry thinking his family is dead after the explosion but then he finds out wesker was keeping the family held elsewhere and he sets off to find his family and wesker.

Just finished watching it and thoroughly enjoyed it. Yes, it needed more zombies but on the whole it was much better (imo) than the live action counterparts. It certainly helped that it felt like a genuine continuation of the original game series' lore rather than the slapdash-rehash that the Milla Jovovich flicks were/are. I hope sales of this are good enough to convince Capcom and Sony to create further entries in this series - maybe with more zombies and some of the other staple Resident Evil critters next time. I also noted that the voice actors for Leon and Claire were reprising their roles from the original video games: Alyson Court (Claire) also voiced her in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, while Paul Mercier also voiced Leon in Resident Evil 4.

PS. I was almost expecting Albert Wesker to make a cameo somewhere along the way and was actually surprised when he didn't....

I just saw the movie today, and I thought it was amazing. Much better than the three live action bullcrap movies. I do agree that there should have been more zombies, not too much more, a tad bit but overall the movie was pretty sweet, and I hope they make another one, the world could always use another zombie movie. The special features were pretty cool too, it was nice seeing how the movie was created, and the bloopers, especially the first one with Claire blowing up the city, was so hilarious.

Note:

The ending scene is kinda lame to me.
She's standing there in some cheap asian dress, looking into nowhere.
Why?

For me, it looked like she was thinking back about her brother's intentions, and how those intentions, while pure, led him to do horrible things merely to prove a point, and how what he did was the result of manipulation, and how she was unable to stop it from happening. That's how it looked like to me.
