I know a few of the regulars are, but whoelse in here is a musician?
This could also mean a mixer/dj, as i still think this falls under the title.

What do you play, or are you a vocalist even?, what equpiment do ya use, what type of music do you play, are ya in a band, who are your influences etc.

Personally, im a bassist, i play for a MachineHead tribute band called 'The Blackening' but have recently been asked to join an experimental/industrial group which were thinking of calling 'A Nexus Falls'

I love to play anything and everything, from Punk, Ska, Industrial, metal, experimental to blues, Jazz, Funk etc, i have a very eccleptic musical taste.

Easily my biggest influence for my playing is Les Claypool of Primus. i LOVE slap bass, and coupled with my kinda 'experimental/unconvential music' i have learnt ALOT from this guy but overall, by biggest influence is Mike Patton, i may have a TINY obsession with this guy and his work ;)

I curently own 3 basses but am borrowing an Ibanez 5-string for band praccy/gigging

here are a few pics

This is my Yamaha BB605 <3

This is my 1st ever bass, a Squire p-bass which im planning on killing at a gig in the near future XD (damn this pic is old)

Last but not least, i own a 5-string Shine bass, but that never gets used, its like this but with a different finish

Well, i'm primarily a bassist now, but i also play guitar and a bit of keyboard. Been playing guitar for about 4 years now, and i've been playing bass for about 9 months.

I'm currently starting a new band with some friends, mostly experimental stuff, i play bass and occasional keyboard. Hopefully this band works out considering the last two i've been in didn't work out too well.

My biggest influences for bass would have to be Les Claypool from Primus and Ryan Martinie (RyKnow) from Mudvayne

I only have one bass right now, it's an Epiphone Les Paul Special. Exactly like this one

Nice dude, it was because of Ryan, more specifially, the slap intro to DIG that made me decide to play bass!
It was the 1st time i really noticed slapping, i watched the vid for the 1st time (was also the 1st time i heared the song) and i was astounded by it, it looked cool as hell and sounded 10 times better.
It was actually partly this reason (but also coz L.D. 50 is an important album to me) i got my mudvayne tattoo ^^

and im really liking your bass, very sexy, how much did it cost, coz they can be prety expensive at times?

ERiKDude
10-02-2007, 02:35 PM
It didn't cost too much, i think the total came to 400 canadian, which is pretty good cuz the bass is pretty nice. It's a little neck heavy but that's no biggie.

And L.D. 50 is a completely kickass album! :)

Played guitar in a couple of metal bands back in the 80's and then joined up with some punk / Oi! bands in the late 90's. Nothing since then though, other than just playing at the house when I'm bored. Too old now...

I've been producing electronic music for about 11 years now. I just finished up a few downtempo projects, but have done things along the lines of minimal techno, tech house, progressive, house, etc.

I was a Dj for years as well, but I like producing quite a bit more, for reasons I won't bore you with here ;)

I was in a piano class last year as a souphmore, so I learned how to play a keyboard primarely. I got a Yamaha YPT-200 (or something like that, I just looked at the manual) for Christmas, so I've practiced what songs I know for some time. I've been hoping to find sheet music from famous bands like The Doors or Styx, but not suprisingly there aren't many music places in the Ozarks that specialize in piano. I've also tried online, but I found out I can't print out sheet music.
So far my inspiration is Ray Manzarek from The Doors. In fact, he inspired me to take piano class after I heard his solo from 'Riders on the Storm'.
All you guys have wicked guitars and basses, and I'm suprised of how many musicians there are.

I play guitar and drums, but mostly just drums. My current set up is Yamaha DTXpress, They're pretty good electric drums for the price. I listen to pretty much anything(I dislike country). My influences are, Niel Peart, Tony Royster Jr., Travis Barker, and Joey Jordison. I love double bass pedals, but I don't have them(saving up). I am looking to join a band, preferably one of the metal genre.

LMAO! God, that's great. I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be able to play an instrument... something like guitar or bass. I'd actually also love to learn to play the bagpipes, violin, and banjo, but I'm pretty sure I won't be taking any lessons anytime soon. I've got enough on my plate already. I did used to play the flute in band. I never knew how to read notes so anytime I would play it would be by ear.

My wife has played violin for several years. She tried to teach me a few years ago but I just couldn't get it. I've been playing guitar for so long that the violin really screws with my head since it's tuned opposite what a guitar is.

Im in a cover band, we cover everything...literally..everything.

I sing and sometimes play guitair. If its acoustic is my Gibson J-150 6 String Guitar (took me 2 years to save up for the thing) with a small Marshall amp.

My bassist plays a Zodiac BXP with a peavy amp.

My guitaist plays an Ibanez GSA60 with a marshall amp.

As for the dummer, I know its at least a 6 piece set, im not sure the brand or anything...shows you how much I pay attention.

I play bass mostly. I have a Stuart Spector Ltd. made in Czech. and an Ampeg head with two Ampeg pro series cabinets (15" driver in each). I also have a custom BC Rich Warlock from the 1980s.

I play guitar too, and alto and soprano sax, violin, trumpet, tuba, and one or two songs on the piano - but mostly I just tune them (pianos). I haven't played some of these in a while - may/probably have lost my lip and need to spend quality time getting it back.

I do vocals for a punk band. By punk, I certainly don't mean Good Charlotte MTV punk. My band is called Blinding Eye Dog.

Our musical influences include mostly older punk with some thrash metal, classic rock, and even a pinch of ska and Tex Mex tossed in. Pretty much, any type of style or bridge that hits us while we're writing a song.

I'd take a picture of a battered and dented microphone, but I don't know that it's really necessary.

Strychnine

Yeah, it kinda frustrates me when you mention punk and people assume the GC, blink 182 crap (no ofence to GC + blink fans ;))

I would love to be part of a punk band but around my area it just TOTALLY lacks for musical diversity.
I'd wanna play something along the lines of Black Flag, minor threat, circle jerks, the exploited or the casualties etc, something to get the adenaline pumping.

Tho im enjoying my time with my machine head tribute band its not really something i can take totally seriously so am in the middle of creating a band with a few mates.
Were gonna try and create something very doom-metalish, mixed with Nerosis, Isis, a little Tool and with an electronica and MAYBE even jungle/breakbeat twist to it. (+ sh*t loads bass effects to cover up my crappy playing :p)

I know its a cliche to say so but we wanna create something different.

Have any of you played venues that make you sell tickets or pay "production fees"? I avoid the three places in Baltimore that run that crap: The Brass Monkey, Fletchers, and Dick's Halfway Inn. What they do is give you tickets to sell and charge you to play. The charge to play is anywhere from $50-$150. Selling tickets is the only way to not pay the bar/club and to make money on top of it.

To be honest, I won't do it for two reasons:

1. My band mates and I are too lazy to go about begging all our friends and associates to buy tickets.

2. It allows these venues to cash in on your band and take your money without doing any type of promoting shows. Simply put, it forces the bands to do all their work for them and gets them cash on top of it.

Yeah. Yeah. I know for outsiders, it seems silly to think that paying 50 bucks is a big deal. No. Between five members of my band, we surely wouldn't feel it in the wallet too much. It's the matter of half the time we play bars, we're lucky to pull that for the entire band. I'll be damned if I pay someone else to help them get business.

Blah.

We brought in a second guitar player after my first one's wife started cracking down on him and limiting his time out of the house. It was running well at first or somewhat well.

The second guitar player managed to be late for nearly every practice. Five-ten minutes is one thing, but 30-60 minutes is ridiculous.

Then, last week he just didn't show up. No phone call. No email. Nothing.

I figure he might be quitting the band, but then he emails me about upcoming show offers.

Today, five days after missing practice with no word he emails me saying he had finals and that's why he wasn't there and that he can't practice this week either. His finals were switched to a night he didn't have class?

Oh well.

Vent complete.

As I mentioned here earlier that I have been playing guitar for 16 years now and own 2 electrics which are again a GibsonLes Paul 1960 reissue(cherry sunburst) with dual pickups (worth $1,400), Epiphone Sheraton(worth $700 to $900 I think) and a Guild jumbo acoustic(worth $1,200). I have 2 amps still....my Fender and my Peavy Bandit 112 and have a Digitech RP 10 effects board and other pedals too.

But now I own a Bass guitar too. It's cheap too....it was only $160 and came with a carry bag, bass tuner, dvd tutorial for bass guitars, guitar strap, cables, small SX bass amp and the bass guitar itself is a SX Standard Series BG1K.

I've been wanting a bass for years now but just never got around to buying one so it will be a challenge to learn how to play it. I guess it shouldn't be too hard since I have been playing guitar now since like 1993.

I play in about twenty bands. bass for most of them. most recently, it's been a ska band, but we're on haitus because the singer's moving to brazil or columbia or something for a while (it's a long story), but the other guitarist and I started a folk punk band, I'm playing harmonica, doing vocals, and doing the less technical guitar parts. we mostly play small gigs by the railroad tracks for the drunken hobos, and sometimes we sneak into venues where all the christian metalcore bands are playing (there's this huge christian metalcore scene in my town for some reason...). we're very good. sometimes political. I'm also playing bass/keyboards/vocals for a post-math/synth-pop/death metal band (imagine if slayer f***ed Minus the Bear f***ed the Unicorns). I used to play bass/vocals for a melodic hardcore band, but we weren't too good. or I didn't think so, people claimed to love us, but I've always hated anything I come up with. we sang about jacking off in theatres, food, and covered Suicidal Tendencies (and NOT institutionalized. that song SUCKS). uhh... I'm trying to think what else I've played in recently.

oh, the guitarist for said melodic hardcore band started an indie project with me, both of us on guitar/vocals, think if Mountain Goats, Death Cab For Cutie, Modest Mouse, and Fugazi had a baby.
