I saw a trailer for this when going to see RE: Extinction, and it looks AWESOME!!! I can't wait for this to come out in theaters!

Looks good. Of course, it's a comic book movie so there's a big nagging doubt. Downey could be really good in it. I wonder how much of an alcoholic Stark will be. The trailer showed a drink in his hand, but the PG13 rating makes me think he'll give up his drink as he becomes a hero.

Same here. I was pissed that it's not going to be hitting the theaters until 5/08.

I doubt they'll be using the story arc where he wound up living on the streets because of the booze. :)

New Trailer premiering tonight during Lost. http://www.marvel.com/news/moviestories.2689.Wonderbuzz%7Ecolon%7E_New_Iron_M an_Movie_Poster
I am really excited for this movie. I have had a countdown widget for over a year now on my computer. It definitely looks promising, and its been awhile since Marvel has come out with a movie. Iron Man is probably one of my favorite Marvel characters as well, this movie is going to be sweet.

That trailer was sweet. I don't want to wait for May to come around :x
The best part is that this movie seems to be pretty much dead on with the comics. I am really happy Marvel didnt butcher the story like they did with Punisher or Hulk.

favrau is a huge iron man fan so hopefuly it kept it pretty close to the source matierial, it sure looks like it from the trailers.
also, jeff bridges looks great as obadiah stane ( not sure if its spelled right, its late )

I have read the first essential Iron Man, but I haven't read the second one yet. Is Obadiah Stane from the second or is he a villain in the new series'?

Great, now my ongoing obession with RDJ continues.
This looks bad-ass though.
Anyone seen or read about that movie hes doing with Ben Stiller where he plays an actor playing a black guy?

not sure about that, but what I do know is that obadiah first turned up in the early 80's ( 81 - 83 maybe somewhere in there ) and was just some sort of buisness rival for stark for a few years, then after 2 or 3 years he became the iron monger, all I can tell ya for sure is it was the early 80's
EDIT - found the proper info, First appearance (Stane) Iron Man #163 (October 1982)
(Iron Monger) Iron Man #200 (November 1985)

Ah, thanks. Well I guess I need to be reading the next essential volume so that I will have a heads up while watching. Also, just to make sure they stay true to the comics.

Iron Man is a great character. I'll consider seeing this.
I could be wrong, but I noticed when they make live action movies today, they don't like to use too many bright colors or red in the costumes, but maroon instead. Superman Returns had the same thing. XMEN, mostly black uniforms. Bright colors look good in the comics, probably not so much on real people.
I'm so gonna go see this tonight. :drinking:

I'm a die hard Batman fan, but in my opinion, Iron Man is the best superhero movie made so far. It surpassed all my expectations. If/When you go see it, stay until the end of the credits!

wow it actually lived up to the hype I gave it!!!!
I really liked this movie. They usually kid up these movies but they actually made it "adult" which I loved. There were no cringe parts like a kid saying cool! or some sappy lines. The plot wasnt over the top and the CG wasnt bad at all. I hate when you can tell spiderman is totally fake.
The best part of this movie was Roberts performance. He was such a dick and smugh asshole that.. well it was great. The movie was very funny and had some great action sequences... it lagged a bit but they had to explain his orgins which they did well.
cant wait for the rest of the series!!!! This is the best superhero movie I've seen. This one actually had balls (even though it was pg13).
bring on war machine!
9/10
PS. as for after the credits im glad they semi left him out. It makes it too cartoony.. I know its a damn superhero movie but.. I dont know guess we'll see him in the 2nd. That scene is up on youtube btw

everything zk101 said and more, I thought it was superb in every way, RDJ was pitch perfect as stark and jeff bridges turned in an excelent performance as usual, the only deractor for me was the freeway fight between the iron monger and iron man felt an awful lot like transformers other then that it was perfection , I will see this one again in the theater and I recomend everyone go see it.
the dark knight has some mighty big shoes to fill to be the best super hero movie this year
9.5 / 10

I expected them to have a bigger battle but it wasnt too bad. I usually dont like Bridges but he pulled of his character very well.
which you like better? batman begins or Iron Man? I think Iron Man by alot.

batman begins was great and bale is a great lead actor, but I would have to go with iron man by a wide margin as well , between the top notch CGI, excelent character development and superb performances by all involved and the excelent humor - RDJ IS tony stark in this movie he just wreaks of arogance and confidence and is genuinly funny - the whole scene where he is trying to fly for the first time in the lab is one of the funniest scenes I have seen in any movie in a long time..
and actualy now that I have had more time to let it all soak in , while the final fight was a bit short and did feel like I was watching transformers it was very satisfying and very fun.
the Iron monger / Iron man "how did you fix the ice problem" scene was especily satisfying to see stark outsmart stane
PS be sure and let us know whatcha think zmbvan !

oh and one last thought on this movie lol...
i LOVED the last 20 - 30 seconds ( not the after the credits bit though that was good too )
"so um, clearly, I am not a superhero, because, I am, um, Screw it - I am Iron Man" and the screen goes black - perfect ending to the movie
probaly my favorite ending to any movie ive seen in the past 5 years.

I just got back from the theater and I was blown away. Best comic book movie ever! I can't wait to see if Hulk or Batman will give it a run for its money.
Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark. Pepper Potts was played perfectly by Gwyneth Paltrow. Jeff Bridges was awesome but he kind of reminded me of the Dude a bit.
Everything about this movie is gold, except the fight between Iron Monger and Iron Man was a bit shaky at first but turned out great.
I can't wait for THE AVENGERS MOVIE! FEATURING SAM L JACKSON AS NICK FURY!
All in all I would give this movie two big thumbs up! 10/10

something has been bothering me... now its posible I just missed this , very posible infact so thats why im going to ask here , so i dont look liek too big of a dope but.
did they ever say why Yinsen was being kept in the cave with tony? I was thinking about it tryign to come up with an explination but I couldnt really come up with anything
big spoiler - read at own risk
clearly its not to try and save his life / keep him alive because the
whole point behind kidnaping him was to kill him, so I thought maybe he was
there to help him build the bomb they wanted, but that doesnt make any
sense either as obediah hired them to kill someone but didnt tell them it was
stark and only decided to keep him and have him make a bomb AFTER they
found out it was stark, but at this point they already had yinsen.

I think they just kept him around becasue they knew he could build stuff. So they were probably try to get him to built better weapons and lucked out when they got Stark.

Marvel turns 'Iron Man' into gold with $100M-plus debut
"Iron Man" was pure gold at the box office.
The Marvel Comics adaptation, starring Robert Downey Jr. as the guy in the metal suit, hauled in $100.7 million during its opening weekend and $104.2 million since debuting Thursday night, the second-best premiere ever for a nonsequel, according to studio estimates Sunday.
The film also scored overseas with $96.7 million in 57 countries where it began opening Wednesday, putting its worldwide total at $201 million.
The movie, distributed by Paramount, is the first release by Marvel Studios, which has begun financing its own productions after such studio-backed hits as the "Spider-Man," "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four" flicks.
"We could not have hoped for a better way for Marvel Studios to blast off," said David Maisel, chairman of the unit, a division of Marvel Entertainment, which stands to pull in a greater share of box office receipts and merchandising money by financing movies itself.
Debuting in second place with $15.5 million was Sony's romantic comedy "Made of Honor," starring "Grey's Anatomy" heartthrob Patrick Dempsey as a man who tries to woo his best pal after she asks him to be "maid of honor" at her wedding.
"Iron Man," which won rave reviews from many critics, features Downey as billionaire arms designer Tony Stark, a boozy womanizer who builds a high-tech suit and becomes a superhero, mending his ways after he's taken captive and sees firsthand the devastation his weapons cause.
The film is directed by Jon Favreau, and also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges and Terrence Howard.
Despite the huge "Iron Man" opening, Hollywood's overall business was down compared to the same weekend last year, when "Spider-Man 3" had a record debut of $151.1 million. The top 12 movies took in $154.1 million, off 15 percent from a year ago.
"Nonetheless, `Iron Man' did better than expected," said Paul Dergarabedian, president of box office tracker Media By Numbers. "This is certainly the shot in the arm the marketplace has needed."
Movie attendance this year is running 6 percent behind that of 2007, so the arrival of "Iron Man" may jump start the box office as the busy summer season begins.
"If that first May movie is a big hit, it tends to lead to a big summer," said Rob Moore, Paramount vice chairman. "There hadn't been a big event movie yet this year. So you have the first event movie of summer, and people go `And I hear it's really good. All right, I'm in.'"
"Iron Man" was the 10th biggest opening of all time and the fourth biggest for a superhero movie. Among nonsequels, it came in behind only the first "Spider-Man," which premiered with $114.8 million.
"If we have to, we're happy to come in second to another Marvel property," Maisel said. "It emphasizes how lucky we are to have such a powerful brand that's not loved by just comic book fans but also general movie fans."
The next Marvel production arrives in June with "The Incredible Hulk," distributed by Universal and starring Edward Norton.

Saw it Sunday...great movie!! Bring on part 2!
I've heard rumors the Mandarin will be the villain for the next installment...I really hope it's not true. He was one of Iron Man's goofiest and most boring villains.
Magic rings? Come on...
