Well, I received my copy of THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD special edition today and while it's not a perfect edition of the film, it's pretty close. The featurette is pretty informative though on the short side and the other retrospective piece done by Elvira runs to be only about 22 minutes long.

So really, the new features aren't worth really double dipping BUT the commentary with the cast is pretty good. The zombie actors do interfere with the cast members while their talking a few times, at first it's kind of humorous but it gets a bit annoying after a while. Eventually, the zombies know when to let up and they do thankfully.

Most have seen the horrid cover for the release featuring a Night of the Living Dead-esque cover, well the good news is it's just the slipcover and although the cover underneath is not MUCH better - it is slightly better and can be found here (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v649/a_little_voice/rotldspecfront.jpg).

Also, another big gripe has been - do thy use the theatrical audio and the answer is; no. They use the 2002 mix O'Bannon put together for the film for the original DVD release. So for everyone who was hoping for the theatrical audio, sorry guys it didn't make the cut on this release.

I paid $16.95 for it and no, no 5.1 track. Just a stereo and mono track.

I was kinda hoping for some of the cut scene to be on the disc. I have a work print which has a bunch of extra dialogue. The most interesting one, is Ernie's last favor that he asks of Burt. In the work print after he says "Burt, that favor you owe me . . ." before he says "watch you ass out there" he goes on to say "No matter what happens out there, don't name it after me." repeating Burt's joke from earlier in the film. Not much, but I always wondered why they cut it.

This film as some of the funniest dialog ever in a flick horror or otherwise. Is Jim Karen in the dialog voiceover? (I used to know him years ago) Thanks
