I'm currently working on a short horror film and we've been making a lot of blood lately but the only way we've really put it to use so far is covering our lead actresses's face and clothes with it. At this point in time I'm looking to spice things up a little.

What are some cool effects you guys have done in the past with fake blood and how did you pull it off?

I know there is a thread similar to this but I'm looking for personal stories about filming experiences you guys had with effects and what went right or what went wrong. Instead of posting simple instructions of things you found on the internet.

Posting pictures would be cool too.

I'm not going to lay out exactly how its done as I haven't had the chance to use it properly in a film yet. What I will say is that its a real face/head (mine) with no make-up or prosthetics and no CGI, just some fake blood.

Hey whats the plot n title? That one pic has me interested.

On Evil Doll we had to find a way of stabbing a kitchen knife into someones shin with blood pouring out. I made a fake leg out of plastic underground piping, with a knee cap and joint. I made a hole where the knife would go and filled a bag with fake blood. Test worked fine you shove the knife into the bag, it bursts blood pours out.

But when filming, not so good it burst on the inside so all the blood poured out the boot laces.

But the effect for the knife being removed worked fairly well, luckily it was meant to be comedic. Had a juice carton filled with fake blood with hosepipe taped to it. Threaded it through the fake leg and simply pumped the blood through the whole as soon as the knife was removed. hardest thing was keeping a straight face lol.

Link to the trailer see a few effects on it.

Years ago when I was a line cook I almost made a waitress faint by chopping off my pinky finger with a french knife. I put a sausage in the pinky of one of the latex gloves I was wearing and tucked my finger in toward my palm. I called her over to pick up an order. When she came to the heat lamp slide I placed my hand on it, and CHOP! She never forgave me.
It wasn't bloody gory but the effect was stellar because it wasn't expected.

Your character reminded me of Ash Williams, I'm guessing that wasn't by accident.

I don't understand how you pulled this off... but I respect not telling how its done until you've put it into a film yourself. But man that is freakin amazing.

A large ziploc filled with fake blood and colored gelatin chunks. The bag was then wrapped with duct tape except for one side which was slightly perforated. This was positioned against a tree where the zombie's head was supposed to be. The tests where a baseball bat was used were awesome. Blood and chunks flying. The shot with an irregular shaped object were decent, but didn't have the same projectile fury as the baseball bat.

LOL nope was no accident lol. One of my lecturers I showed it to said it's like Ash Vs. Chucky. Although that wasn't my intention but hey.

Just watched some of your vids on youtube, looks interesting liked the argument with the actress lol. Stage actors eh! My friend I got to act in one of my films had done stage acting, as a chair I think lol. "The Appointment" (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6CDSRwUSlAQ) That's the one. Theirs a few gore effects but they're nothing special.
